these engines are shit... they are known to blast rods through the block with a boost spike... its true that bad tuning can do this, as well as driving abuse but still the shear number of these engines being damaged is just shocking especially with just a minor boost increase or boost spike... they are crap, to those that think these failures are put down to drving abuse and faulty tuning is dumb, do your research people.

The stock Xr6T motor is known to throw rods out when pumping more power than there should be but the motor from the FPV F6 is another story. The internals are different to the normal xr6t's and can handle a shit load more power. A mate of mine has had his f6 at 560 rwhp on the dyno, thats a completely stock bottom end, head etc. The turbo is still the stock item but high flowed and just a nizpro kit. The engine is still going strong as is gearbox and diff, clutch had to be replaced though. People are making over 1000hp on these motors without throwing rods out the side, its just the stock xr6t motors that cant hold it together.

any you ford mechanics actualy know what causes them to throw a leg out of bed? it doesnt just happen to turbo's either you know, also the diffs clunk generaly not break from what ive seen,, gearboxs fail because theyre getting hammerd.... pics for you!

as far as the diff/gearbox argument goes, go and read old motor magazines from the PCOTY tests, etc and see what they say about the HSV gearboxes.

another thing to take into account is how many of these cars there are to how many are blowing up. it might be in the range of 1 per thousand (just making up numbers) but until you can put it into perspective and get an overall number from a large number of dealerships, saying that they are shit is pointless. the ratio of cars blowing motors to the number of cars sold might be worse than skylines.

i'd like to know some figures from japan on how many motors where rebuilt due to turbo failure throwing bits of compressor into the cylinders. if ford is nown for weah heads, nissan would be known for weak turbos on the rb motors.

the final thing to think about with the falcon motors blowing up, how many of these were driven gently for the first few thousand kms. a lot of them probably weren't given a decent run in time and were just raped from day 1, which doesn't help prolong engine life.

the main problem is that for is trying to build a $70,000 car for $50,000.

thats why some XR6T's are making upwards of 700kw on stock internals?

its all in tuning, like any engine, you bodge the tuning and the engine will 'grenade'.

you get the tuning right and itll run sweet day in and day out.

how many RB's do you think got blown up in their early days when people were still trying to get te tuning right?

Mate, 10 - 12psi on the standard turbo is all the standard rods will take they will then start bending and warping into a simullar shape as a banana (go to a engine machinist or any reputable performance workshop and they will tell and show you), valves springs are quite an issue too. As for a completely standard internals and making 700kw is complete utter BullSh!t.

Was at my mechanic the other day, he had a brand new GT-P with a spun bearing and fudged piston and it only had a Herrod exhaust and intake and Tune, isnt that nice and isnt covered under warranty.

Ps the V8 is so f**ken huge in size it looks like a good anchor for a ship.

herrod exhausts are coverd under warrenty, as is some intake mods depends on who the maker is.. your mate might wana cheak that out, as for the tune, i doubt the workshop would notice it... the xr6T fails due to the factory actuators getting a hole in the diaphram causing them to overboost and shatter shit, any car is gona bend rods if it runs more then double the factory boost on a factory tune with such a large turbocharger... they blow out spark and eventualy blow out rods/pistons with the sorta boost they run.

its not a aussie turbo, but my frend's uncle has (apparently) the most powerfui BA/BF falcon in australia

its a XR8 putting out 808.1HP at the rear wheels (with a final tune on the way); its a SMH 6.0Litre alloy block (american racing team custom cast block - fugen strong) with massively flowing heads, custom grind cams (all 4 of them - took around 4 hours of work to dial them in with the cam gears) big exhaust and a big V7-SYI supercharger that can handle 1200HP and a big front mount

its cool alright and has been featured twice in Perth Street Car mag (1st time it wasnt so wild), but he has had soooo many problems with it. the first time apparently he blew the engine cause the supercharger couldnt handle it, and now, just after it being finished, he went to motorvation and did something to the sump - and that wasnt even doing a burnout or anything

its an awesome car, but its had sooo much happen to it, and its hardly that realiable - something you would want with a hypo engine like that

there is something that makes japanese engines just a little more realiable

you dont see ppl complaining about a r34 gtr near new or 350z or something about a piston flying out through the side....

mate has a 2year old 350z, it has a new gearbox in it old one started to shit itself, clunky diff and occasionally an engine whine from somewhere....

mums vectra has had the triptronic gearbox replaced in it, 2 years old too, just had timing belt done at 60k, found a leaky water pump so replaced that too...

misses mazda 2 had major cv noise when you turned right, farken thing only has 15tho on it!

talk about beat up ford thread, i dont see alot else come out of australian dealers with such good bang for buck.. 45k gets you 240kw in a 4door sedan... dont give me r34 because they arent local, and holden have just jumped in the ballpark too....

my point, everycar has its weaknesses..... i dont think that most of these cars spit a piston out the side crusing along the highway at 100kmh, you buy an xr6t to hammer around the city, belt down the freeway, if you wanted to go slow and carefully then youd buy an xt or plain xr6....

Look at howmany fords have been sold since the release of the BA, the power they put out stock, cost and engineering.....

go buy an audi 1.8 or a 318i for typhoon money, yeah it might be a bit better inside, but goes like a pulsar...

good on ford i say... hope the development continues!

just because you dont hear about it doesnt mean it doesnt happen...

The only 350Zs I know of with aerated engine blocks are those that run too much boost or nitrous. Bumping the redline up too much without a new bottom end also has a tendency to stretch / snap gudgeon pins.

Aside from that, first year 350Zs only tend to prematurely wear tyres and munch gearboxes. Oh, and the stereos tend to shit themselves (CD player not working in coldish weather, speakers cutting out) and the usual crap Nissan build quality of trim coming off, power windows not working, rattles etc. Like every other Nissan I've owned or had mates who've owned, the bits that make it go, stop and turn are great but the rest of the car is a bit ho-hum.

Most of the above has been addressed by the current release, anyway.

its an awesome car, but its had sooo much happen to it, and its hardly that realiable - something you would want with a hypo engine like that

that has nothing to do with it being a ford. when you start getting up to that sort of power level things break easily. my mate built a datsun L20 motor, bored and stroked it to 2.2L. it made 154hp (115kw) but only lasted 12,000kms before it arced a headgasket.

Thanks for everyones posts and comments, just made my lunch break pretty fun...

Ok my 2 cents worth, all cars have there issues, id rather have a few rattles in liney than an engine problem

More of a reason to buy a toyota!!

Ummmmmm have you had a look at the recent class action suit against Toyota?

Yet again Toyota has been keeping problems under wraps, paying off irate customers outside of court and outside of media scrutiny.

Problem was one of these Toyota owner has gone out and exposed Toyota’s engine problems and their under the table hush money.

RESULT? Toyota was forced to compensate owners of Lexus and Toyota vehicles. The problem affects 3.5 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles with model years between 1997 and 2002. This sludge build-up problem according to experts was the result of bad engine design and can cause engines to die (requiring total engine replacements). This problem will cost Toyota Billions of dollars to rectify.

Any of you guys seen 2MUCHKW drivin around the city.. xr6t

i seen it the other nite and i seen the plates and went puft, rite oh.. i kept cruisin then he pulls up next to me doin about 60-70 and then drops it back to 2nd and starts spoolin and spinnin..

my jaw dropped and i was like get f**ked that sounded f**kin mint!!

he did this multiple times in front of me, was like watchin a movie but bein in it! was awse.

so all you guys that are givin em shit.. they might be shit, but this thing f**kin rocked! i'm not much of the ford fan, but i dont mind these aye! especially this one! so yeh i guess he kinda lives upto the name of the plates, which is good to see, instead of some loser puttin it on a stocker.
