Fuel consumption prob

ok big problem

when i first got the car i got about 400-420km to a tank

today i reached half tank with only 144km

tahts wrong, i should be on about 200km at half tank

either im leaking something or my fuel guage is fuct

can someone help me out

is the engine supposed to make a very slight hissing noise on idle?

have you parked the car on a downward slope!?

400 to 420 is damn good. 330-380km per tank is average for me.

i get 400-420 only if i've been driving slowly for 95% of the time.

and yeah as franks said, parking on a slope can put the gauge off, up to 1/2 a notch i've noticed

I wouldn't get much more than 320km out of my tank..but i never drive gentiel

Could just be your float in the tank "sticking" or could be related back to that fuel smell you're smelling?? Or either that or the timing has gone way out for some reason and its just chewing and chewing the petronas.

btw: still haven't seen any form of digital fuel guage around.. If you need another one you'll have to get a replacement mechanical one and wire it up to where your old one was.

i can understand your concern on fuel consumption, but its a performance car - performance comes at a cost unfortunately

In my car, making a left hand turn can also up the fuel gauge by almost halfway the quarter mark. Making a right hand turn the otherwise. After driving straight for a while, it'll settle back to its original position.

i thought the petrol tank would be presurized so the petrol stays level

if you presurize cell with fluid it it...it will never stay level bcoz as one side drops down the otherside levels out...think about it

and when fuel gets pumped into the engine

is there excess fuel that gets pumped back into the tank

or does it all jus burn in the engine

dude, fuel gauges are like that, dont worry where it sits till the lght comes on then go straight away and get fuel, its what i do and always get ~ 360-400 (i drive hard too, ie. loss of licence LOL)

no the unburnt fuelgoes out the exhaust with the burnt fuel, that's why we have cat converters and if ya take them off ya get flames when ya decelerate (unburnt fuel igniting on the hot exhaust tip)

and also poppping when ya decelerate is healthy, shows the car has been tuned well coz its running perfectly with itsratios
