I welcome any extra competition - Bring it on I say! :)

Me too

C'mon Troy, we need the Silvia vs Skyline faceoff!

Troy: You want a 1.35 at Winton with the current setup?? Fark man, that's quick!

Looking at times I have seen from certain cars...I would love to do a 1:35.99. But I realistically know that's the one track where my lack of finesse will hurt and would be stoked if I did a low high 1:36. Will be happy with anything in the 1:37s. At 1:41, I need a bullet between the eyes. The car is quicker then that...its just that at Winton I either catch on fire of run out of fuel :(

What did Chris do around there last year, I thought it was a 1:35??

Though Winton suits our cars I think, light and nimble.

Yeah. 1.35.5. 1.34 in Snowys car in Dutton '05

Troy your car wont do a 1.35 around winton. I think you will struggle to get lower than a 1.37.5

Nah, the more you drive winton in the R it becomes a GTR track. If you can drive it with the rears on slight spin then you get pulled around the track by the FWD. I think GTR has one up on you guys there too.

Although I did see a mirage kick my ass at a Winton Fri practise day. So it can be done with light and small.

so this is still going ahead? I checked the thread on the REX forum and they were still talking about the cost...Can i assume tis going ahead - for somer eaosn my logon isn't working on the rex forum.

I'm buying new rims and tyres so i hope its going ahead.

PI wil be going ahead.

The thread on the WRX Forum was just a heads up regarding cost so the regs don't freak out when the supp regs are posted.

:)

Argh, we've got no advantage anywhere do we??! :)

The Mirage does 1:10 around Wakefield...and im pretty sure im at least 1.5 seconds quicker there. (I have done a 1:13 on mismatched street tyres, 130-140rwkws)

Around Winton a Mirage does 1:37s. So like i said, i hope to be able to do the same time...but throw a good driver in my car i think it would give a 1:35 a shake

See you kents there, if Ray ever finishes with my damn car!! hoping for mid 1:50's for my first run of the R34 at PI :spank:

If you stop breaking things and buying cheap parts off ebay it might spend more time in your garage not his.

Just my 2 cents :ninja:

:P Cheap parts off ebay? Riight... I've bought heaps of parts off ebay. None of them have given me any issues, so maybe you should find out what your talking about first? The time it's taken is because of custom work required due to the head/bottom end differences and getting the plenum and getting the throttle body, TPS, TCS, idle control, etc. all working.

At least I can run a track day without lunching my synchos.. ;) Just my 2c..

Not sure if you call a HKS copy turbo a quality part, but I suppose when you start putting GTRguards, GTR rear difuser and GTR off set rims on a GTT you can think many weird things...

As to the synchros, as mentioned in previous posts, my bad, I shouldn't have gone out with a worn clutch. live and learn.

Also, at least I can keep it off the wall...even if I only go to the track once a year, it's still off the wall :O

Just admit it, you have GTR envy :P

Nick, it's obvious you have no idea what you're talking about so I wont have to say any more. HKS copy? ;) Like you're an expert. But that's ok if you like to think so. Indeed... my 'GTT' was faster than your GTR around Winton... so why would I have to envy?

When you finally get your new clutch I'd love to go faster than you again with my "HKS copy" 2835 pro-s. Any time champ. :P

No I'm not the expert but turbo place that inspected it are :)

Like I said in the previous post.. I don't hit walls :D

You might have been quicker which all comes down to practice, but if you want to make this a dick thing by saying your car is quicker than mine or (or your d..ks bigger than mine) ...well we both know the truth to tha now don't we......Mine on both occassions. LOL

You might be dumb enough to push it to the limit and care if you hit a wall so if taht will make you quicker, so be it :)

It's all a bit of fun Matt.

My turbo is fine, certainly has plenty of response, actuator holds boost and it meets the HKS specs, can you believe it actually has the same comp housing and wheel trim of HKS? Outrageous. How silly of me to think it's genuine. Excess heat was the cause of my issues with the turbo.. just ask Ray why. But if you'd rather talk to the 'turbo place' that doesn't even have the equipment to balance a turbo cartridge because they're turbo experts (who've never seen a HKS exhaust housing before) then be my guest!

I never mentioned anything about Dick size, but since you brought it up.. perhaps you're the one with envy? LOL. That's ok, yes I hit the wall due to a stupid mistake in wet conditions from being impatient - that's not what I'd call pushing the limits :D But you know what? At least I'm out there having fun. Maybe you should care more about your lap times if you want to start talking about GTR envy :)

All a bit of fun

    • I see... Any idea how much fab work is required? I note the Hygear megathread but its like 900 pages
    • I should try the experiment you're talking about, the throttle switch is still there carried over from the R32 and it's still all wired up but after I did the whole intake manifold refurb and had to recalibrate the TPS I managed to somehow get the idle switch reporting activation at 0.22V, then when I adjusted it to 0.45V for idle it decided the engine was permanently no longer idling which caused some very weird behavior, closed loop idle was disabled so it would basically be at the whims of the cold start valve and whatever the base timing table was at. Then just unplugging/replugging the TPS with the ECU live caused it to relearn the idle TPS position and decide 0.45V was idle. Presumably there's nothing in the TPS that allows for the throttle switch to "recalibrate" like that, not easily at least.
    • Duh... to answer my own silly question, it's actually described in the FSM... ...400 pages away at the end of the manual, for RB25DE/DET signal descriptions, it cites the TPSwitch signal action, is dependent on the TPSensor value ~ this tends to infer the builtin POT voltage signal is the primary, and the switches are fallback/secondary should the POT fail/TPSensor signal lost (and switch alone with no TPSensor signal allows for base idle speed setting).... makes sense... they (TPS units) used to fail/wear the POT with time, they're not exactly built to last ~ having the switch as a redundancy gets around this...(or, it's less likely both signals would be lost as they're on different power rails)... and of course wrt RB26DETT, you have to electrically disconnect the IACV solenoid from the harness, to defeat idle air control...
    • Dose is unaware just how much fun 145-150kw would be in a 2.5L NC MX5. It would be one of the most fun things to drive to ever grace SAU.
    • Same thought crossed my mind ~ depends on how one connotes 'stalling'...ie; gets a rough/stumbling idle as it get warm until it stalls... or... idles ok and simply falls-over when it gets to temp... ...you can test the whole circuit with a couple of resistors ...unplug coolant temp sensor, bridge terminals with a 2K7 resistor (ECU will do cold start), or with engine warm bridge with a 330R resistor (ECU will consider engine to be at normal operating temp)...it's a quick way to check wiring integrity/ECU response when you don't have a multimeter handy ...
