Im a huge power fc fan but i think on this forum in particular they are a bit over rated. I have one in another car and think its great however.

Im going for a LINK G3 with R33 adaptor loom and wasted spark setup. The downside is they only run 4 coil drivers so unless you want to wasted spark your coils you need to run a wasted spark setup. The stock coils suck anyway so replacing them never hurts. You get lower temps, better life, and more spark so win win!!

1269 AUD including a loom adaptor. Add in a wasted spark setup (if you want to) for 200 and you have an incredibly good computer for 1469. More mapping points, dual fuel and ignition maps. Take into account the fact you also dont need an AFM and its a great deal.

You sound like a real ignorant f**k. Considering that the G3 came out maybe 3 months ago i highly doubt you have played with one.

woah! wind that rage down a notch old buddy. no need for the name calling or abuse just because you don't agree with someone over the internet. next time earns you a warning level.

now, you may have a point about the link. i've never used one but I will say I can accept the power FC is by no means the greatest ECU ever, in fact it's decidedly old tech, and it's not the most powerfull ecu either. it's not even the cheapest. but it does have a couple of areas where I'm yet to see it beaten. 1 is total cost of ownership: when you buy your PFC you get PFC and hand controller. there is nothing else needed for installation. no custom wiring, no adapter loom, no MAP sesnors. nothing. just plug it in. 2: the base maps: the apexi base maps are good enough to drive where you need to go for tuning, and as such provide a great start for the tuner to work from, as the engine is already up and running (and running well) and usually just needs some tweaking, not complete re-tunning. 3: factory like features: I mean cold start, air-con control etc etc are all top notch in the PFC. 4: widely accepted: this means pretty much any tuner you can name will be willing to tune your PFC, and chances are they've worked with them before.

so for an average tuned car of small injector upgrade, turbo upgrade, exhaust, intercooler etc PFC is pretty hard to beat. your car will run like factory, just with bucket loads more power. AND it's relatively cheap, and it's an easy matter to revert to stock if need be.

BeerBaron I meant to type 'APexi is now officially bankrupt' Sorry i have crap typing. but i foudn out form soem one today its only apexi japan apparently and they have a large american arm so maybe there is still some hope?

Haha; I'll come on board and suggest the HKS F-CON V Pro... kicks the living daylights out of all the above mentioned ECUs

I will be perfectly honest and say i have only used their units in the past and HAVE NOT used the G3, but based on previous history it would need to be a big step up. I hope it is as good as you say is., cause no doubt i will have to deal with one at some stage. i have no brand allegiance just get annoyed when shops push a product beacuse of their hip pocket not because of its merits which is what i have seen with link in the past.

HAHA the F-con is an awesome peice of kit but name more than two workshops in AUS that can exploit its full potential......

URAS; I said I'd throw a spanner in the works - didn't mean to say it was the spanner that would fix the engine though...

I live in Sydney; so I'm able to run the F-CON... WA people are able to now apparently (unconfirmed).

The HKS kit is great; and if you weigh it against the PFC prices of today; is serious bang for buck.

im now sulking. i have tried (not real hard  ) for two years to get the soft/hardware to play with them.... as nearly every second import has one fitted ex-japan.

you are lucky.... Mind you what is the going rate for one? BD4's i pressume.

If you find yourself a copy of the PowerWriter software + the HKS Dongle (teeheee this word gets me laughing all the time); let me know yeah

I'd also keep it to yourself that you ever found it because HKS sues anyone who is caught with a copy of it right back to the source. Hence why you won't find any information on the Pro Gear on the web other than the product description...

Don't believe me: Google for the installation / instruction Manual for the F-CON V Pro; impossible to find.

I picked up a second hand V Pro for $500 including the loom from a R34GTR...

I paid $2k flat for the following:

Brand New F-CON V Pro (Version Upgrade - swap with old unit)

Air Temp Sensor + Loom (for MAP instead of AFM)

Installation

Tune (including full pre-dyno testing)

Official F-CON V Pro Vinyl (lol)

Entire ordeal took about 10 hours... I've since been back twice and each time the service / costs get better

yeah so $2500 drive away and your locked into HKS only authorised tuners and have no access to the ecu what so ever for diag, checking and monitoring?

and is that version the stand alone or piggy back unit ?

There is only one version of the F-CON V Pro; there's no difference between the stand-alone and piggy-back one.

And as for being locked into a HKS Tuner... fine by me; he does a good job, guarantees his tunes, doesn't charge through the roof and is trained by some of the best in the world... why not?

LOL we've covered this topic so many times before... I knew as soon as I started typing that the critics / non-believers would jump on me

Oh I forgot to mention that the Navigator Pro is used for the monitoring aspect of it... tells you pretty much everything the PFC H/C would tell you (minus the editing side)

Honestly, 9/10 PFC owners wouldn't have a clue as to tuning their own vehicle so IMO it's irrelevant whether or not it's locked in. Furthermore, I don't know about you guys but I don't know of too many people who jump from one tuner to the next each time...

would there be a market for a FCEDIT type of product for the F-CON? been playing on my mind for a while. We have the technology but do we have the market?

fc edit is just software to get onto the powerfc and edit / view all the crap

it would be like the hks pro writer software. someone could write some code and a specific cable to speak to the fcon and edit all the crap on it
