Hi Guys,

Long time reader first time poster :O. I finally picked up my R34 GT-T last weekend. The car drives like a dream, to my surprise the car freaking hammers for a stocker compared to my 180 (srdet).

I have had a few questions regarding the R34 :

1. The car comes with a Nismo Exhaust system, from inside the cabin you have the option of selecting either sports mode or silent mode. Does anyone have this in their R34? (The Control looks like factory). All the pipe work is wrapped in what looks like factory heat shield.

2. The 34 also comes with factory fog lights (has factory controls), verified that the mounting brackets are factory and not after market. I have never seen any R34 with factory fog lights. Does anyone have this on their R34?

3. The front suspension has what looks like either height or damper settings (I might be wrong), I haven’t checked the rears yet. Is this a standard item with the 34s?

4. The 34 also comes with an aftermarket HUD (DeFi brand), the head up display reads half the speed of what the vehicle is doing. Eg, if I am doing 80KM, the dash speedo shows 80 but the HUD shows 40km. Any idea what might be wrong? My understanding is that the HUD is hooked up to the ECU, if the connectors aren’t on correctly will it give me incorrect reading or no readings at all?

5. What should the normal oil temp reading on the factory gauge? (I’ve tried searching the forums but had no luck)

6. Does anyone on the forum have 20” rims on their 34? If yes then has anyone had any problems lowering it?

I think this is all for the time being... :(

Thanks in advance

Nav

20inch rims wouldnt'e ven go there dude

prob 19's max

20" yes u might haev problems if u wanted to lower the car n dependin on wot offset u put on

havne't tried 20's on ma car yet but have heard that sometimes if it's too big then it tends to make ur car have less power due to the radius of the tyre

i know 265/35/18's will definately fit for the rear n front think it's 235for the front n e bigger should start rubbin the guards if that helps.

1. Yes I have this system aswell, sometimes the motor for the silencer is known to get stuck. Leave it on idle & if you switch you should hear the motor for the silencer open & close. As for the heat wrap I haven't checked mine out yet.

Very good quiet sound that sounds agressive when you boot it, although still pretty restrictive system. I'm buying a HKS silent Hi- power & seeing if I can still use the silencer (it should be attached to a bit of pipe before the muffler.)

2. When I was shopping for my car I came very close to buying one that also had factory fog lights fitted. Are they large round ones with a sort of amber/yellow tint?

3. Check what brand they are. My car came with Factory option bilsteins so I don't know what the stockies are (unless bilsteins are stockies lol?).

4. No idea sorry

5. Mine usually sits around the 50-70 degrees depending on the type of day & how long I've been driving for.

6. When I was shopping I test drove an R34 with 19's & was lowered as legally possible & there was slight guard rub when full lock.

P.S welcome to the forums :)

Hi

I already have 20s on the R34, just waiting to lower it...I know it will scrub but not sure to what extent. I love the look of the Lenso LDRs Deep Dish, considering the car will only get driven once a week max I guess a little bit of scrubbing wouldnt do any harm.

At the moment with 20s on I find it real ez breaking traction till 3rd gear.

- It actually looks like normal white driving lights. These ones are small oval type ones....

It might be better if I attach some pics tomorrow.

Where are are the brand name (tag) located on your one? I had a quick look last night but couldnt find anything.

From memory doesnt the temp guage start from 70 and go all the way up to 150?

P.S welcome to the forums

I have already put 20s on my car, I wasnt sure if it was going to suit it....initially I had it on my XR6. At the moment only at full lock there is a very slight touch....I think its touching the plastic covering underneath the wheel arch. I just want to lower it maybe around 30mm to get rid of some air above the tires.

Having 20s on might explain the speedo inaccuracies with the HUD...but damn...80ks and 40ks is pretty out of whack...have you got 4WD tires on it?

At most road works sites in NSW there is this radar type thing which shows you your speed as you go past it. I was doing 40KM and the radar picked up something like 41-42 KM.

Thanks for the welcome

No worries mate

* If your foggies turn on from a factory location ie; the lights & indicator stalk than it's safe to say they're a factory item, nissan logo can usually be found somewhere on the lense like on the side indicators. The r34 I saw with large oval ones had the nissan logo aswell. Not unusual for a company to offer more than one type of fog light.

* My shocks are yellow in colour & have the bilstein logo stamped on the bottom part of the shock Can't see the logo unless you take the wheel off. When you look at the engine bay it looks like you can adjust from the top of the struts too, although I haven't tried this yet.

* stock item does, however I have since changed my guages... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...c=156040

* hmmm, pretty sure they were 19's. Driving was fine, just when parking or slow manouvreing at full lock you could notice the guard rub.

Hope that helps :(

shouldn't be too much problem depends how badly they rub i guess

when i use to have ma lancer yes i was a ricer back in the day haha

i got ma car lowered with 215/40/17's and the rear was a bit too low n started actually cuttin the tyre to a certain extent wasn't really n e major damage just left like cut marks on the tyre

gdluck with woteva u choose to do  n if u can plz post up some pics as i'm havin ideas for new wheels on ma 34 cheers:)

yes the heat shield's stock with the 2.5" xhaust factory optional, don't play around with the button too much, mine got stuck, replace with Blitz NUR R

2. The 34 also comes with factory fog lights (has factory controls), verified that the mounting brackets are factory and not after market. I have never seen any R34 with factory fog lights. Does anyone have this on their R34?

Mine comes with Piaa lights, the bulbs are however destroyed on compliance, pointless...

If your shokies are yellow, they are bilstein however they are not height adjustable

Defi Heads up display is called VSD, does not come stock with the car, you are reading half the speed because the VSD have to be calibrated correctly for it to work. I have a manual somewhere but couldn't be bothered to look..just press around, you'll be right..

5. What should the normal oil temp reading on the factory gauge? (I’ve tried searching the forums but had no luck)

oil temp will normally be about 1/3 goes up to 1/2 and sometimes 3/4 when cruising for extended period. I don't remember the temperature, you can figure that out

6. Does anyone on the forum have 20” rims on their 34? If yes then has anyone had any problems lowering it?

20" will not go well with any sports compact cars if you lower it.

Hi,

Those guages look sweet as! I really didnt need to see that though. When I first picked up the 34, told myself I will leave this one alone. Umm 2 days later 20s went on, now I am hunting around for a cooler and exhaust. Now a work mate is going to Japan for his bro's wedding and he wants me to give him a list of things I need for the car :S

Thanks man!

I've attached some pics. Ignore the height for the time being.......hopefully will get it lowered soon.

Thanks for the reply.... :)

I tried playing with the setting this arvo......didnt have any luck. Did you adjust your one whist driving or was the car just parked and running?

while moving. If I remember correctly requires you to confirm speed. therefore you'll prolly need another driver. I did mine in a carpark

    • Have you checked the foam over the years? No deterioration to the foam from e85 mixing in oil? (assuming you're on E85)
    • Add to this... What blew the fuse too? If a circuit feeding power to the coils was blown, how were the coils even functioning to let the car start?   There is some seriously wrong wiring in that car for certain, and I'm betting there is some melted cables somewhere, but I can't explain the 30v either, unless there is something back feeding on that power line that has a dodgy power system and the electronics are giving it hell.
    • This is typically the case with such threads. What I cannot quite get my head around is where a reading above 12V (or 13.8 or 14.x or whatever the maximum achievable voltage might actually be in that specific car) comes from. 25V or 30V should be completely impossible. There's no way to create it. Hard to answer that question. It will literally depend on whether the current tune relies on the values as set. I'd guess it probably does. ie, the real base pressure being 49 means that the flowrate through the injectors will be higher than if it was 43.5. The Haltech's modelling should be handling that, but because it thinks the pressure is only 43.5, then..... I dunno. It should be thinking that it will be injecting less fuel with each pulse duration than is actually happening. So, something is definitely not-as-it-should-be, but specifically what that is is beyond my abilities to imagine. Someone like Dose who spends more time with Haltechs might have a better thought.
    • Bit of a late reply here as me and my wife have been really busy with new born twins. I finally got these issues fixed and it was something really stupid that caused all of this 🤦‍♂️... After alot of mucking around with trying to figure out what is causing these issues, I back probed one of the R35 coils on the power 12v supply, with the engine running it got 25v! And I thought, hang on..., this isn't normal. Measured my battery with the engine running to check for over charge from the alternator and it wasn't that. So then I dissconnected the R35 PRP coil harness and backprobed the power supply on the engine loom where the ignition coil harness connects, with the key on ignition (engine off) it measured 30v! So then I had to trace where that high voltage was coming from and it lead me to the brown relay "ECM & IGN coil relay" inside the cabin next to the ECU on the passanger wall. This relay feeds power to the ECM and ignition coils. Tried swapping it with another same relay. nah still 30v.. coming from the 2 green/white wires in the brown relay. So then I set my multi meter to the beep continuity mode and probed every fuse on the fuse box inside the cabin to try and find this high voltage power source. Wasn't any of the fuses inside the cabin. Then probed all the fuses in the engine bay and BAM, got my power source that was a 10AMP fuse called "ENG CONT". Pulled the fuse out, and what do you know... it was blown. 🤦‍♂️  So then I quickly replaced it with a new 10AMP fuse, started the car and yeah haha [insert extreme face palm]... The RPM blimping thing went away, car idles smoothly now like what it was before. I swear! I checked all my fuses with my test light twice before I created this forum thread. I think, maybe because one side of that faulty 10A fuse lit up on my test light, I must have thought it was still ok and not blown. But now I know to have both sides light up on the test light when checking fuses... I hate diagnosing electricals.... I'd take mechanical problems over electrical problems any day🤣. Drove the car around my suburb with the engine up to operating temp and it runs fine like before. However, I notice that my fuel pressure is still at 49psi. So I'm thinking this must be normal for my system as I've upgraded the stock fuel pump to a Walbro 255L/h with a constant 12v mod.  But anyway, I'm just glad to have my daily back on the road! Thanks everyone for the replies on this thread, all sorted now! One thing I want to ask you tuner guys, my base fuel pressure on the haltech main settings are set to 43.5psi from default (my tuner must have not checked the fuel pressure maybe when tuning my car?). Do I set it to what it actually is idling on at 49psi? Or just leave it ("if it aint broke, don't fix it/leave it")?
    • The max they would go for me is 50.
