Fuel Gauge Inaccurate

My fuel gauge does not work correctly anymore. It used to be spot on, but now it says its full for about 350kms then suddenly it drops down to empty, then goes to half full, then when I fill the tank up it takes nearly 55 litres of fuel. Which shows that the gauge is way of the mark. I asked an autoelectrics company what the problem could be and they said that they have had alot of skylines around the same age with this problem and it would cost a minimum of $400 to fix

Has anyone else had this problem?

Geez... $400 ?

I think they is pullin ya pee pee with the "common problem" line.

the in-tank float thingy is getting stuck by the sounds of it.

I wondered what they were doing down there
