Went to get a roadworthy today since car got defected for to low and pod filter and mechanic tells me new laws just came out that i cant have a frount mount at all and cant have coilovers and cant have rims, he rekons if he had of given me the roadworthy vicrds would send me to get a engineer certificate , i told him that i had the front mount with the return pipe so no holes cut in chasis and the only issue is epa but since stock airbox doesnt matter but he said no and also said cant have aftermarket dump pipes with the new law i reckon its a load of shit nad he just didn want to do a roadworthy what you think

Anyone knows if there are any turbos u can legally change onto a 32 GTR.. Like can u get away wit R33 N1's or those Nismo R580's..?????????????????? This is if u get called for EPA inspect...Help much app.

How will they know you've put on larger than factory?

If the are the same size (most medium level low mount upgrades dimensonally are the same), then there is absolutely no way short of pulling the turbos out.

Ive heard someone say before they can check the serial numbers or something on the turbos using mirrors...So then they know that type of turbo wasnt original for that type of car..

i've heard acople people talking about it, but dont know if its true. i've heard that there is new laws about placement of the cat. and that it has to be placed in the dump or directly after the dump. Anyone heard of this?

just got full epa notice, going to go to moorabin for the test.

Just wondering whether aftermarket dump/front pipe with stock catback exhaust is fine. I know its fine for the noise (done it before), but i don't know about the full epa test. The only aftermarket parts on the car for the test are going to be the dump/front pipe and a hybrid fmic. What are my chances of passing the emission test considering the car is almost 15 years old (i'd imagine that after time it all starts stuffing up).

thanks

awesome :P

also, i fitted the airbox back on today, but can't put the snorkel on since the fmic piping is in the way, technically that would count as modifying intake, but do you know whether its fine?

i'd imagine all the r33 gtst guys would run into the same problem, really don't want to be taking fmic off and trying to source a stock side mount...

thanks

just got epa letter in the mail after being done on the blitz weekend couple weeks ago...

$584 fu&^. got 98db..

Isnt an EPA letter for emissions just to get ur car tested or is it a fine as well?

Im expecting one in the mail sometime soon after being defected..

first time i got epa'd it was just a letter saying for me to get tested.

i think now cause its the second time and they tested my db level on the spot and i was over, i got fined.

might add another resonator or something to help quieten it down, everyones best off doing everything the proper way now with the way cops are these days.

for my epa i got 98-99db...my current setup is extractors,2.5inch piping, cat, resonator and cannon...if i put another resonator would that help it pass under 90db???and would i notice any loss in power or anything with 2 resonators?

two decent mufflers - is the only way.

resonators don't do a thing.

Yeah?

I made my own resonator. It was inserted inside the 3" stainless system I have on my SR20DET 1600, and took the diameter down to 2.5" It was approximately 300mm long and packed full of stainless steel wool.

I was tested by my engineer before insertion and I pumped out 99db(A). This was at 500mm and at 4800rpm (2/3 max RPM), after the insertion I pulled 94db(A) which is a pass for a pre 1976 vehicle (requirement at 96db(A))

Resonators work and they are the best way of pulling sound energy out of the exhaust. They aren't as effective as a muffler (well it depends on the dimensions), but they provide the least amount of restriction and sound ace on full boost.

Tried them on RB's? :ermm:

To get to a 90dB limit for the EPA, a resonator will not get you over the line - that was more the point i was trying to make. So a rephrase of my statement if i may :)

Also remember 2.5" will flow any reasonable amount of power as well (2.5" is not a friend of a modified turbo setup).

Ok if your only chasing 200rwkw, but if you are looking to 250-300rwkw and beyond you are in a very big pickle on PULP.

edit: (talking about a system you can run daily, not swap out for EPA only)

If getting a custom exhaust system/dump pipe etc., you must maintain the same distance or shorter the factory CAT was from the turbo. This is the legal method and you will pass the EPA requirements.
