ok so i know its a bit early but hell, i rather start searchin now so that im ready in 2 years time.

goal- street car, that i can have fun with at the track as well as take down to the drag strip.

car must- be reliable, without sacrificing too much power.

car im starting with- 1993 R33 GTS25

if you had the same goal in mind, please let me know what youve done for your engine maybe i can copy you and get all the part details etc... from you.

oh and i aint going the bolton way, unless it is completely necessary, im talkin full engine swap and decking out the engine before its put in.

ive been reading alot of info in magazines, on the net, on dvd's, been to CGC turbos, DRC, advan, just to name a few. etc.. i have a fair idea of what i want BUT i would like many many 2nd and 3rd etc.. opinions, so let me have em please. thanks fellaz.

wouldnt it be easier to get the turbo model?

dont they have bigger brakes etc?

in my opinion, id just sell the GTS, and buy a GTS-T....

then u wont have to swap parts from a GTS-T to GTS....

will probably save alo of headf**ks....

the thing with that is im going to lose money selling the GTS and then lose more money coz im gonna still replace alot of shit in the GTSt motor, if the only diff is bigger brakes, im upgrading to aftermarket brakes anyway, so no issues there u kno wat i mean?

also, isnt the compression ratio higher in the N/A?

meaning if u turbz the RB25DE, you can only run like 7-8psi.

correct me if im wrong.

or just buy a GTR. either way, buy the turbo version.

i said im swaping the engine anyway, im not going to turbo the motor thats in there now, im gonna load up a turbo motor then stick it in my engine bay and throw out or sell the N/A engine.... so my q was what are the parts that will give me a relaible street/track car? sorry if it wasnt clear in the first post, i tend to suck at putting words together lol.

mate, any day of the week the best advice you will find here is to sell it and buy a GTS-t

it will be a hell of a lot easier to simply upgrade parts than have to do an entier strip and replace the inferior GTS parts

eg there's no need to upgrade the standard GTSt brakes than simply putting in some good pads..

eg GTSt has LSD standard (don't think the GTS does but i could be wrong here)

eg GTSt has different steering wheel and some interior pieces usually

etc. etc.

once you get a GTSt, then its a pretty simple method of exrtacting the required power:

- full exhaust

- high-flow air filter

- boost controller

- front-mounted intercooler (FMIC)

- tuneable ECU eg powerFC and a decent tune on the dyno to monitor knock and AFRs

- regular maintenance

you probably won't find much advice that will tell you otherwise.

i realise that sometimes its nice to stick with what you've got for the principle of the matter, but that's usually all that's holding people back from having a car that they want decent performance ability from

if you're 100% dead-set keen on keeping the current GTS, it would be more fun and satisfying to either go rb26, rb30 or V8 i think personally..

Don't listen to these guys. You have a goal, so go for it. I'm in the exact same boat. I also have an R33 GTS, and will be doing the engine swap too. The differnces you need to know...

- The gear box is different, you will need a GTSt one.

- The diff, while it is LSD on the GTS, is still different.

- The brakes, as you know.

- The ECU will need to be either a GTSt one or an aftermarket one.

I think thats the most of it...

I haven't done this swap yet, but I've done a bit of research. I have a similar goal to you. I will be buying a half cut and then working on the engine to produce a reliable 300rwkw before I do the swap. Before I buy the half cut though, I'm doing other stuff eg brakes, suspension, new interior etc.

Maybe giv Chessa on these forums a PM. I've spoken to her a bit. She has an R33 and has done this conversion. I'm sure she'd be happy to help. :(

also the shitty 4stud hubs on the GTS, GTSt has 5 stud.

dont forget that with the GTSt ecu you will need a GTSt loom too.

As above. so many differences.

By the time you add it all up, its cheaper to sell up and buy a GTS-t to begin with.

You wont loose as much money if you do this and begin with the better base car.

Changing out diffs, stud patterns, motor changes/loom changes, new gearbox/diff/tailshaft etc etc, its all fiddly crap thats going to cost you more than you realise.

And with half your luck you'll be able to pickup a GTS-t with a fair bit of the work done already so its an even greater saving than doing it outright

the problem is that its hard to let go of something you have

we as humans naturally resist change and follow the path of least resitance (like most things in the world)

if you try to look at it from an outside perspective then it will be clear the easiest option

i had an NA 1987 supra and after blowing a head gasket i wanted to drop a turbo motor into it (we are talking like 4 years ago). i didn't want to sell it and get a turbo model car because i liked my car and i knew it and it felt like a part of me, not just something i owned. so 3 weeks later i still had no car and an engine conversion that proved to be difficult to source the required parts. after wasting 1k i ended up having to get a replacement NA motor.

after blowing another head gasket (yes, it was a 7M) i learned the hard way and eventually just sold the supra and bought my R32. it was the best move i have made even though at the time i was half-thinking that i was getting rid of a car i still liked.

step outside the box and have a look at your situation. that's why most of us are giving the same advice.. because we have an unbiased viewpoint.

but at the end of the day this is all advice - you can take it or not, but if advice is what your after, then mine is to sell it and buy a GTSt and don't look back (plus save yourself $$ and hassle too)

    • Seemed to be good when Jeff owned it but they did a shit job on my car, probably worth a think before spending 10's of thousands of dollars where they might be cutting corners
    • Starting with issues 1 - 5, we have already run into a problem...!  Issue #4 contained 2x front brake calipers, instead of 1 caliper and 1x steering knuckle. Will have to call DeAgostini on Monday to sort it out. Anyway here's some photos.  Issue #1 is the front bumper, headlights and number plate. Issue #2 is the front wheel (with "We produced with spartan air." text on the centre cap!) and tyre, the front lip spoiler and cylinder head cover with ignition coils under the centre cover... which will never be seen again. Issue #3 is the bonnet and cylinder head. Issue #4 is the front strut, brake disc (with laser etched metal discs) and brake caliper. I stopped here because of the issue with the missing steering knuckle.  Next update will be #5 - #10 in a few weeks.
    • DeAgostini is one of a few companies that release quite large (the largest commonly available size actually) 1/8 scale models in a series of weekly issues over 100 - 110 instalments.  They release different models for different markets and DeAgostini Japan have release the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo last month. I've made two of these 1/8 scale sized cars (one an R35 GT-R from 2012 - 2014, the other I'm just about halfway through, a BNR34 Skyline GT-R from the 2Fast 2Furious movie) so when this R32 was announced there was no way I could ignore it as it's my favourite out of all Nissans.  Each issue costs around $20 so it costs about $2.2K when completed. I suppose it is very expensive for what it is, but the quality and details are really very good, and there are many "gimmicks" like fully functioning exterior and interior lights operated with a remote control, working steering, all doors/bonnet/boot/fuel lid open and close, the side mirrors fold in and it even has a speaker for the engine revving sounds when you turn the lights on.  Each issue comes with a magazine that tells the story of the BNR32 Skyline GT-R Nismo from the first design stages of the BNR32 to Group A homologation and the various racing version that were run in the Japanese Group A and JGTC, and Australian Group A.  So I plan to update the build in this thread 5 issues at a time.  https://deagostini.jp/r32/?srsltid=AfmBOooKjxDc4EUK2rmXqMBPgyHfFJ24s4oEPJBNpnF-lFlsRoW0PE6P
