Hey all

I recently purchased a Power Fc for my r33 gtst just wondering where the best place in adelaide to take it to for a good tune would be. I tryed doing a search but nothing came up. I have heard from some the shaun from boost works is pretty good in this area. Has anyone had him do a tune with a power fc from here? Also roughly how much am i looking at for a decent tune im thinking bout $500-600 is this around the rite price?

cheers Allan

Best bet would be to ask Shaun....Depends what u what sort of tune u want. A quick one with checking just the afrs is cheaper than a full tune...

haha now i dont know what to do because the people i was deciding between was donnon and shaun and both have been recommended lol. How much does donnon charge for a full power fc tune? and slimjim are you very happy with the tune? that seems like a pretty good price

cheers

I had my FC fully retuned by Shaun about a year ago! cost me just under the $400 mark, and that was a solid $200 cheaper than anywhere else i rang! I have since had 4 other close friends take their car there, and are also very happy with his work and price! TOP BLOKE very down to earth, and his dyno doesn't read 20-50kw higher just to keep the customer happy....... cough cough!

If you'd like change from your $500-600 go to Boostworx & if your not entirely happy with the tune & don't have a datalogit take it back. Shaun is more than willing to give it a blast around the block to fine tune it some more . Like many others here there's nothing but, praise for Shaun & Troy's work.

I just had a full tune done there for PowerFC and the boost control kit, cost $440.
Not saying you'll get the same quote, but when I had the initial full tune w/ bigger injectors, upgraded AFM, fuel reg & re-do hi-lo boost settings it was around the same mark. Know for a fact another respected workshop, which I also go to charges quite a bit more to add extra boost settings & play around with fuel pressure etc.

well donnon has the full program i think on laptop all the data logic stuff

so being a quicker tune ie less time on dyno it should be cheaper but i think thet charge more for it lol

its by choice i think ive heard all good from both boostworx and donnon

33 GTST i think either tuner but if it was a GTR then donnon all the way

id much prefer a tune done with the logic programme such a more refined tune i had mine done and been sweet for 4 yrs

i think there is a better chance of a good tune done this way then sitting there all day punching in numbers in the hand controller

Cost ? well u get what u pay for i think any skyline owner has realised this by now

both are as much as each other i think just personal preferance

shaun has a datalogit. There is no difference in tune with either.

Quick tunes to check the afrs are fine if u are planning more mods down the track...

Yeah im after a full tune i dont think i want to spend any more on performance mods i just want to get my car running how it should with the HKS 2535 in it at the moment its just in R&R all the time so it should hopefully make a huge difference when the fc is in. Well i mite have to ring shaun havnt heard anything but good about him, his work and his prices :) Not sure if its been posted already but can some one please pm me or maybe post the boostworks number cheers

I took a freinds advice and thought i would try Martin.

my car looks identical to Martins r33 sedan.

He charged me $400 and said it was all good.

turns out i had lost 48 kws over my previous tune at hitek.

He blamed the fuel i was running, so he removed 5 degrees of ignition.

final result my car was 2 rwkws less then Martins car...

using the same BP98 i went back to hitek and payed $200 to get the power back

Go to shaun or John..

John has a newer dyno + the way its strapped on.

Shaun is a better tuner... and cheaper...

you decide

Ps. My freind that raved about martin also had his race car tuned the same day.

made 400 kws at the wheels wow...

grenaded 200 klm's later.....

its your call..

Darren

Yeah I've been driving with this tune for just over 2 weeks now, in real hot and cool weather too. It seems fine, and I know its a safe conservative tune too!

You won't be disappointed, and if you are, like its knocking etc, Shaun told me you can just pop in and he will fix the tune for you no worries. Too easy!

Sorry people, cause these figures are about 1yr old or 2yr.

Tilbrooks tune of power fc was $300 with Martin and Mick Stanic tune {2yrold} 299rwk

Manta racing {Steve takes it to willall, Peter Hall tune} $350 {1yr old} 292rwk better map

safer mixture{afr} with Peter Hall Tune for R32GTR

    • Can you log IAT? Whilst WTA coolers have their place, doing any sort of sustained run is not one of them There are fixes that slow down the heat soak, like ice boxes, which don't last that long, and interchillers, which are fairly expensive, up grades to the WTA cooling radiator, which may require a bigger pump, and upgrades to the reservoir size,  and upgrades to the cooling fans, but, it all still heat soaks, and takes ages to come down in hot weather  For a turbo, that isn't locked into WTA like my PD blower is, can you not possibly swap to a nice air to air intercooler????, it would be better for sustained runs then, and have alot less things that could go wrong in my opinion
    • So, the other thing I've sorted is a baseline dyno run up at Unigroup's new location. The auto trans was a little unco-operative by both shifting down when the throttle was floored on the dyno (so Mark had to ramp it up more slowly than in a manual) and also by shifting up at 6,000 even in sports mode instead of the indicated redline of 7,000 Still, on a hot day it made 240rwkw at 16psi which seems about right for 300kw (400hp) through an auto at the wheels.  The shape of the curve is not quite right because it was not full throttle to about 4,500 to stop it kicking down, but until I can get a tune on the auto trans control this was the best we could do.....full boost will be well below 5,000 once that is sorted, I'll get some data logs when I can to confirm For comparison, the R32 made 255 at 12psi (at 4,500) on the same dyno with tune, n1 turbos, cam gears, big exhaust but otherwise all standard so the v37 is likely a little better out of the box. One thing that is very clear is that the standard water to air intercoolers are not up to sustained use at full throttle in warm ambient temps. After about 5 runs (so only a few minutes full throttle), it was pulling boost and timing and dropping 10-15% power. Unfortunately I didn't get that printout and the Unigroup guys are away at the moment, will try and get hold of it on their return. So, looks like a healthy engine to start modifying and the only real area of concern is the w2a heat exchangers which the aftermarket has plenty of solutions for
    • I maintain it actually looked really nice in person. So much so that I thought "No, this is illegal" but there it was, clear as day. I think we can easily call the wing and wheels/height to be transformative. Not saying it's better than the GR Whatever, or the 86, or the WRX STI or anything of that sort (the internet says it all bolts up so you can buy best of all worlds?) but it's still at least a thing and not nearly AS bad as people say.
    • That's less offensive than the previous gen.....except for all that ugly black tupperware around the edges. Blerck!
    • I leant out the window recently and took a picture of this new WRX. It looked real damn fine in person. It's faster around a track (stock) than a (stock) GR Yaris. It's much more practical despite being heavier. It's significantly cheaper. This gen tunes really well, much better than others. .... I think they're probably a lot better than people expect.
