cruiseliner u mean on ur rb27 >_<

what has the 272 11.35 lift cams done to the powercurve?

i dont know compared to other cams as ive never tried any others as yet, but heres a dyno graph on 18psi if that can shed some light ;)

oh and yes its a 2.7 but that shouldnt make a big difference i dont reckon, and that is with a 8500rpm revlimit

anyone else with some input?

I'm now running 272 "STEP2" cams (around the 11mm lift) on both inlet and exhaust.

The originally I was running a 264IN, 272EX, however changing to 272 on both I gained both top end and midrange. See the following graph

Dyno Graph

Unfortunately it's shown in speed rather than engine RPM, however you get the idea.

Oh yes - the idle is really "tough" now

What turbo are you running? t04z?

and what was your redline?

I'm running low mount GT-RS terbs on an HKS 2.8L kit.

Redline for that particular run was just over 8K, but I've had the motor spinning to well over 9k and it still felt like the power curve was flat.

sydneykid can answer this better, as i posed a very simular question to him a while back..

but in short, for every bigger cam profile yo go, expect the useable rev range to move higher, 256's will come in at say 4k rpm, 264's at 5k rpm and 272's at 6...

just means where thye become effective moves a lot higher..

i perosnally went for 264's on his recomendation, and with positive pressure being created by 2800 rpm on a rb26 with a gt3040R, with stock timing and no cam gear tinkering, it seems like advice well said..

252/264 for low end and mid range, 272 if you wanna go drag racing or want big top end

that's all well and good in theory..but look at gav's dyno results, he gaind power everywhere. surely they totally contradict wat SK recommended you?

gav, dont spose u mind dropping in some 264's for comparison sake? :D

i think i read somewhere that every 10 Degrees above standard moves peak power 500rpm higher but i dunno if this is true, But if the cams become effective at 6000rpm that leaves 1000rpm till orange line 1500 till red.. not really much fun..

i was hoping they would really kick around 5000 and hold to well past redline..

Gavs graph has sure kicked a few stones, i mean he got more midrange and earlier moving from a 264 to a 272 inlet cam!

Suppose ill have to wait and see as the heads finished..

I suspect that my results are more a case of increase exhaust flow was required to spool up the larger GT-RS terbs. In otherwords, matching the cams to the terbs.

I'm sure there was also more experimentation done with cam timing at the same time, so it may not be simply a case of achieving the improvements with simply going to a longer duration camshaft on the exhaust.

gav, in ur opinion, do you feel the GT-RS's will make 700-750hp?

I can only speak from my personal experience. I'm certain on my 2.8L motor 600 rwhp would be possible maybe up to 620 with all the supporting mods and optimising cam timing for top end power rather than for mid range as in my present case.

I'm sticking around the 550 rwhp mark, however, as the car is now "balanced" to accomodate this level of power (i.e. 680cc injectors, single high volume fuel pump, sprung centre clutch etc). To go beyond where I am will really detract from making this an enjoyable drive on the street (and cost a swag more dollars and tuning time).

Sorry - the above is a long winded way of nme saying that I believe that GT-RS won't get you into the 700-750rwhp range IMO.

    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
    • Should have taken that opportunity to slot in a twin scroll turbo setup. Maybe next time.
