Hi there guys. Im new to the form and wanted to ask whats it going to take to make 500-600rwhp on an rb26dett. I live in the United States and am swapping an r33 rb26dett into an s14 240sx. I started a post on skylinesdownunder.com however seems there are not a lot of rb26dett gurus on that website.

My first question is what is the difference between the Garrett GT2860-5 and the GT2860RS? Which one will make more power and pull harder uptop and will they make 500+rwhp on 93 pump gas? How do the both of them compare to the the HKS 2530 and Trust T517Z w/ 8cm's? Can you topmount these turbos?

Second question is what aftermarket manifolds will work with the stock location turbos and which ones do you guys recommend? If you can topmount these turbos what manifolds do you guys recommend.

Lastly i want Tomei procams and cam gears. I want 270 IN & EX with 10.25 Lift. Are these good choices or are there other specs you recommend.

Overall my car will be my daily driver but i want it to be a highway monster. I can live with a little lag but nothing to ridiculous so im hopeing the Garrett GT2860-5 or GT2860RS will be a good choice.

ps. this will all be on the stock block. Dont worry certain measures are being taken to keep the motor strong. replacing the water pump with the n1 water pump and oil pump with the n1 oil pump. Complete tomei gasket set and a lot of other stuff i cant remember off the top of my head.

Easy done

1) Read the Forced Induction Guide, specifically about oil control and any related threads. There is a truck load of info already on these forums, so have a search also

2) A Rebuild. Forged pistons, new/fresh bearings, R33 crank, oil pump and a general tidy up/service the head if required.

3) HKS 2530's & ECU, injectors, cam gears, clutch, good dumps/exhaust, set of cams and so on... the usual things required really.

Dont bother with manifolds, people seem to not require them to get over 400rwkw without an issue, just a extrue hone really

If you are in the US and looking to build your RB, drop me a line at [email protected], I can help out a bit. I am the head engineer at Full-Race and i have been working exclusively on RB26 engines in S14s for the past year -- http://www.projectR14.com

we stock and make a variety of RB parts such as our twin scroll turbo manifolds, hypertune intake manifolds, JUN oil pumps, external oil drain lines, oil restrictors, etc. I fyou want a highway monster that is what we specialize in.

Info for you --

-the stock rb26 bottom end is VERY strong. Be sure to have an experienced tuner use either AEM EMS or PowerFC (where are you located?)

-you will not want to keep the twin turbos becuase of the S14's LHD steering shaft. single turbo works out muuuuch better on a LHD vehicle, although twinturbo is possible.

-you will not want to use the N1 oil pump, use either a NISMO, JUN or Tomei

-Procams will require you to machine the head for camshaft clearance ($$ and time). Poncams are much easier as they bolt in stock

Hey Geoff,

I live in Fairfax, VA right near D.C. so im on the East Coast. If i go the single route with your turbo manifold how much hp can i expect with a gt35r? How fast does the gt35r spool on the rb26dett? Or what turbo would you recommend for a topend power with some civility on the streets. I dont want anything that will lag super bad.

Hello Shabib67,

You will need to look at...Fuel,Oil,Water,Air( Intercoolerand turbo)movement and upgrade all these.

Upgrade your bottom end to RB30,get the motor dipped and cleaned.

Make sure you line the internals for oil movement.

Then port and polish, rebore, larger pistons, hks step2 or 3 cams with correct head gasket.

Go the single Turbo.

By this time your motor will be close to 3litres. :(

Crank(Shot pinned or upgraded"TOmie") and larger sump with baffle is needed.

If you are looking for a realiable machine, brakes, diff, gearbox, clutch, tyres and suspension all need replacement.

Then you need computer, boost controller and all the other things that go to making safe power.

Most of all ,as everyone has stated...$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
