Cleaned up the engine bay a bit and got some braided lines and new silicon hoses put in as well as a bit of powdercoating.

Made a big difference to the engine bay.

Still to come:

mirror finish plenum and cross over pipe and fuse box cover, and re-polish the strut brace and a good degrease

Will post the "before"shots later

Julian [widebody32] did all of the work. Top bloke and did a really good job - anyone in the ACT I highly recommend Julian

--> I travelled from Sydney to Canberra to get work done.

Installed two thermo fans too.

Comments appreciated.

Any ideas for coil cover colour? I was thinking blue to match the oil cap.............

Hi,

Sorry but I don't see the links to the pictures?

What about now?

Coil cover still needs painting too.

Can-Fab did the powedercoating (in Fyshwick ACT) - top price too, $130 to powdercoat the plenum, cross over pipe, two intercooler pipes, Rocker covers, Strut brace mounts, radiator mounts, and a few other little bits.

Very nice. Thats not bad makes the drive up there worth it.

Good job Heath. Keep those mods coming!

I'll happily take the extra hosing off you, to use on the demo car :D

Sounds good mate

There is lots of it there, i have had a lot of interest from people - there will be enough to go around.

very nice... do you have the type of intercooler that the pipes come from the same side? or are they running differently from underneath the car? lol but your engine bay looks real good!

was it very costly?

Yes its a Blitz return feed type FMIC running under the front bar then uses the stock intercooler pipes.

It cost a bit, the braided line isn't that cheap and the thermo fans were a few hundred $$..

Was about $1000 for the silicon hose, braided line and finishers, 1m of silicon joiner and true clamps, two thermofans and switch.

$210 for sandblasting and powdercoating.

Plus labour (but we did brake pads, disc machine, service and a few other bits at the same time).

Any ideas for coil cover colour? I was thinking blue to match the oil cap.............

Blue... or yellow

Yellow won't look too strange, it goes really well with blue if it's the right shade of yellow, and there's already a splash of yellow in the engine bay, so it shouldn't look too out of place.

If you add a colour other than blue or yellow, it might start to look too busy.

If you're after some inspiration, check out this thread.

dude it looks REALLY good...! well done

Also just a quick question... that return hose for the BOV to the intake pipe... what sort of material is that? i'm in need of some for my bov... f*kn standard return pipe is too narrow :)

Thanks

Tossing up whether to get a custom made coil cover, or if i should just paint the stock plastic one.

BOV plumb back pipe I just got from Auto1, cost me about $5 - i wanted to do this in braid also but was going to cost about $150 for the braid and 2 finishers, money which is better spent elsewhere (it needs to be -20 which is a special order apparently and really expensive).

Thanks for that, good to look through some others already done.... I still can't decide.

I am still not 100% sure i like the colour of the powdercoating on mine, I wanted it a bit grayer its more blue than I wanted.... but once the polished bits go on I might like it a bit more. I didn't want to go too bright and I wanted the coil cover to stand out a bit.

Note to self... make my engine bay look that good one day. Lol.

Looks great!

Thanks mate :) still a few little bits to fix up, looks fairly stock still but fairly nice and tidy

Since then have had polished radiator installed and a piece of crap POD shield, paid $360 for a plastic POD shield that does not even fit properly.... super ripped! but fairly happy with the radiator.

When I have the time I will paint up the coil cover and make a new POD shield myself (should have done this in the first place)

    • From when I was looking at getting the 86 engineered for the turbo, the joint said to put in a few euro 5 or 6 cats, then tune the car on a nice clean E85 tune When I was looking at a turbo for the MX5, it was basically the same thing, a couple of cats and a nice clean tune Although, it will depend on the year of the Jeep IRT emmisions standards required, and what mods are done, especially if it has a newer engine installed that requires a higher Euro
    • Yeah - but it's not actually that easy. There are limits for HC, CO, NOx and particulates. Particulates shouldn't be a concern in any petrol engine unless trying to comply to the very latest Euro standard. But getting a tune right so that all the others stay within limits AT THE SAME TIME is not a trivial exercise. You couldn't possibly get it right by just guessing at the tuner's dyno, unless he had a 4 gas analyser up the pipe, which is not often the case these days. It used to be. Every decent shop that did "tune ups" (as opposed to tuning) would have a 4 gas analsyer. Perhaps there's still quite a few of them around these days. But most "tuners" are only watching O2 and power readings.
    • Slight segway but the most expensive part of the whole thing which I would have thought would only be required for an engine size/type swap, not a VIV test, is emissions testing.  That's when you get into the big bucks.  I can't remember the exact price now but I got quotes for the GT-R based on swapping to RB30 (not that anyone bothers doing it legally anymore...) and it was around $4500 just for that alone.  The guy that does them manipulates the tune on the vehicle to make sure it passes.  The cheaper option is to book into Kangan Batman Tafe (I think that's where it was) and hire their tester.  Allegedly you're not allowed in there with the car though so not in a position to tweak anything to make sure the vehicle passes.  I'm sure in this day and age of ultra tuneable ECU's you could get the tuner to program a special efficiency (clean) tune that emits the lowest amount of particulates possible that would pass the test.  It might only make 50kW's but as long as it passed who cares!
    • I'm sure he has left signs, or, he is looking down, laughing That's my cunning plan for when I leave, lots of half finished projects, with no rhyme or reason of where I was actually up to, just to keep everyone on their toes
    • Does that price include the rack time to straighten the frame and body and replacement of parts and paint, as well as the noise and emmisions testing  The last engineering certificate I had done, albeit about 15 years ago, was around $1000 for a few inspections and the certificate
