Yeh, just went to drag tag to check it out (in the skyline i sold to a mate) was pretty cool, i'm not a fan of the dyno runs but there was some ok burnouts, anyway, on the way in there was about 3 highway patrol cars waiting about 200 meters down the road so we drove around (that cars all legal at the moment, but just in case) parked the car and walked in.

Anyway we left after about an hour, went out the front and surprise surprise 4 cop cars, 2 highway, 2 normal, sitting there pulling everybody over/waving them in (not with those light saber things) and defecting them, some people were getting RBT'd but we didn't, just popped the trunk had a geezer then drove off, i think when we left they had about 3 cars pulled over that they were checking. Anyway made me P.O'd

It's not like they were on a main road they were in the actual court connected to the drag tag. So cops were using this place to bottle kneck people into getting defected and i think thats poor, so i thought i'd whinge. I hope they're not still out there when it ends at 10:30, because i'd venture to say that it will get ugly

Anyway, yeh i thought that was poor, and it just made me a little happier that i sold my skyline when i did :D

Another disgusting display.

If Vic Police think this is the way to go about operations, then i think Noble Park was just the beginning of much larger and possibly much more violent scenes.

Its only a matter of time before hatred rises to a point that it should never have reached.

All time LOW for Victoria if people were being pinned after making an effort to get it off the street.

That's fkn disgusting.

I'm all for defecting people with MAJOR safety reasons like bald tyres, cracked/broken/missing body work that can be fatal if you hit a pedestrian ect ect

But things like this, camping somewhere where car enthusiast come to participate in some LEGAL fun and cop defect for stupid shit (like no H pattern on gear nob, no rear parcel shelf ect ect) is just fkn annoying.

sheeesh they aren't really giving us much to work with are they :D

i mean what the hell is the point then of being all for this "safe/legal hooning" thing when it obviously makes no difference to the police?

you have fun illegaly, you get f**ked over for it. you have fun legally, you get f**ked over for it...

oh well...

last time i checked driving on the road with illegal mods = illegal

why is it a special case because you drive it to a driving simulator thing.

what different does it make? the mods are still illegal

i like the new add for Calder park drags about not getting your car inpounded for being a hoon etc.... and come to Calder Friday night drags and do it all legally..... How long before they abuse that as well....

Time will tell and hopefully the Victorian police respect those dragging their cars in safe and legal conditions.

Their actions tonight obviously don't say much.

true. but what's the point then? are you supposed to tow your car to this place everytime you wanna do a burnout because it has a pod and a fmic? :D

well that assume you take the car on a trailer

then that would be fine, and i expect thats what they want you to do

then you can have all the mods and it doesnt bother anyone or endanger anyone

driving to the drags will illegal mods, is still illegal and of course they would defect you for that

based on the adrs and whats legal and not legal yes, you should tow it on a trailer and do it

im not saying thats nice or that is feasible to do, but thats what you should be doing technically

otherwise, yeah you are open for being defected

much like robbing a service station

you are putting yourself in the situation to be arrested and goto jail

Also gotta factor in that (in my experience) vic cops like giving out defects to people for lots of random stuff (some of the stuff i've been done for is so wack) so regardless of whether the car is really illegally modified or not, your still at risk

and if i get defected its my own fault

i have illegal mods on the car

and i accept that

i wouldnt post up a thread

saying the vic cops are low

because they had a defect station up somewhere

it would be like me robbing a shop

and going to jail for it and speaking to the news

saying that its unfair and abuse of power

it just makes no sense. if you no illegal stuff or mods then who cares if they check your car for defects, let them and then drive away and not worry.

yes thats fair enough, allthough very expensive way about doing it, it is the legal way!... but think of it this way, intercoolers, bigger turbos, boost controllers, exhausts, specially ones with no cat converter (general modifications that you get busted for) arent really "SAFETY" problems, they are more epa and pollution laws set in place to protect emmision standards, our atmotsphere etc, so how is it 'OK' if you use your motor vehicle with these epa breaking modifications on a private property? its still polluting isnt it?

like said earlier, if your car is physically danerous, eg bald tyres, rusting through the chassis, etc, yes then it should not be on a road let alone be driven ANYWHERE! but if you can do it on private property, i dont see how a boost controller, or emmision changing mods are that bad!

Getting defected for illegal mods.. yes ok...

Setting up the testing at an event that promotes taking hoon behaviour off the street is where the problem is.

    • Can you log IAT? Whilst WTA coolers have their place, doing any sort of sustained run is not one of them There are fixes that slow down the heat soak, like ice boxes, which don't last that long, and interchillers, which are fairly expensive, up grades to the WTA cooling radiator, which may require a bigger pump, and upgrades to the reservoir size,  and upgrades to the cooling fans, but, it all still heat soaks, and takes ages to come down in hot weather  For a turbo, that isn't locked into WTA like my PD blower is, can you not possibly swap to a nice air to air intercooler????, it would be better for sustained runs then, and have alot less things that could go wrong in my opinion
    • So, the other thing I've sorted is a baseline dyno run up at Unigroup's new location. The auto trans was a little unco-operative by both shifting down when the throttle was floored on the dyno (so Mark had to ramp it up more slowly than in a manual) and also by shifting up at 6,000 even in sports mode instead of the indicated redline of 7,000 Still, on a hot day it made 240rwkw at 16psi which seems about right for 300kw (400hp) through an auto at the wheels.  The shape of the curve is not quite right because it was not full throttle to about 4,500 to stop it kicking down, but until I can get a tune on the auto trans control this was the best we could do.....full boost will be well below 5,000 once that is sorted, I'll get some data logs when I can to confirm For comparison, the R32 made 255 at 12psi (at 4,500) on the same dyno with tune, n1 turbos, cam gears, big exhaust but otherwise all standard so the v37 is likely a little better out of the box. One thing that is very clear is that the standard water to air intercoolers are not up to sustained use at full throttle in warm ambient temps. After about 5 runs (so only a few minutes full throttle), it was pulling boost and timing and dropping 10-15% power. Unfortunately I didn't get that printout and the Unigroup guys are away at the moment, will try and get hold of it on their return. So, looks like a healthy engine to start modifying and the only real area of concern is the w2a heat exchangers which the aftermarket has plenty of solutions for
    • I maintain it actually looked really nice in person. So much so that I thought "No, this is illegal" but there it was, clear as day. I think we can easily call the wing and wheels/height to be transformative. Not saying it's better than the GR Whatever, or the 86, or the WRX STI or anything of that sort (the internet says it all bolts up so you can buy best of all worlds?) but it's still at least a thing and not nearly AS bad as people say.
    • That's less offensive than the previous gen.....except for all that ugly black tupperware around the edges. Blerck!
    • I leant out the window recently and took a picture of this new WRX. It looked real damn fine in person. It's faster around a track (stock) than a (stock) GR Yaris. It's much more practical despite being heavier. It's significantly cheaper. This gen tunes really well, much better than others. .... I think they're probably a lot better than people expect.
