But I am zero tolerance on Terrorism ect....I wouldnt want to see the result of negotiating with plane hijackers ect. You can't give em an inch, if that kind of action is seen as sucessful in bringing change where does it end.

9/11 was very successful in bringing about the imposition of a far more non-permissive society onto the Western World (kind of like Sharia Islam, although its for the equally ephemeral concept of "security" instead of "Allah"), and its given terrorists a new base of operations to work with (Iraq). Its also mobilised a lot of Muslims in countries that were either supportive, or at least ambivalent, to US treatment of Arabic Muslims.

I don't see zero tolerance doing a better job. Its killed far more people and caused a lot more unrest in recent history than negotiation.

At the end of every "war", the leaders of the combatants on either side sit at the table to discuss the terms of peace. While the victors hold the upper hand, they still have to negotiate. Even when Japan / Germany got defeated in WWII, while the Allies ran roughshod over them they still didn't just imperialistically say, "This is how everything is going to be in your country".

So, given that zero tolerance is inevitably abandoned, why not skip all the killing and atrocities and go straight to the negotiating table? People who are oppressed inevitably rebel, unless you're willing to extinguish all hope and break their spirits.

The only way zero tolerance works is if you're intending on wiping out the enemy. As long as you let people with another point of view live and you want to live in harmony, there must be give and take. I don't think we, as a society, have the stomach to execute a pogrom or brainwash people to wipe out that "way of life".

if it stop 1 person from getting killed or injury then its good.

Typical drivel from people who think that everyone should be saved, at any expense.

P platers aren't the only drivers who kill people. There are plenty of full-licensed drivers in high performance cars who kill people. Should we ban high performance cars for everyone?

Hey, people are getting stabbed with knives as well, and the perpetrators were over 18. If we were to ban the sale of knives to anybody, then we'd save another life!

That's two lives I've just saved by ruining the vast, law abiding, majority of the population's shit! I'm some kind of life-saving genius.

Hey, if we medicate everyone and strait-jacket them then we'll never see a bar brawl or a riot again. Someone break out the Thorazine!

I just saved another couple of lives! Where's my Order of Australia Medal?

Import drivers And P's Drivers need to understand that police have the RIGHT to target YOU! you are in a HIGH RISK group. GET OVER IT!'

No, they don't. Look up the difference between a "right" and a "privilege".

No-one has the right to discriminate against anyone based on their age, religion, race, or beliefs. That's a fundamental human right, something that we (and when I say we, I obviously don't mean you) believe in.

Being able to investigate and incarcerate specific people suspected of crimes is a privilege granted to law enforcement agencies. And its only if they suspect an individual of a crime. Its illegal to target someone purely because of their race; their age and lack of skillset is no different.

We all know you cant teach experience.

You also can't get it by not doing something.

You have to wonder about the intelligence of some people when their solution to "fixing" the dangers of inexperienced drivers is to do everything you can to stop them from getting said experience.

I know the government didn't implement curfew, but I'm talking about the people who did. I wonder how these people manage to survive with that kind of logic process, but then I look at how f**ked up some parts of the world are and I realise that its because of their stupidity that they feel the need to legislate common sense, since if its not written down and enforced by the police they're incapable of doing it.

All I can say is... the government....

Yay, even more P-plate restrictions that probably won't make a lick of difference in the road toll.

Because the War on Drugs and Prohibition has shown the effectiveness of "zero tolerance". Not to mention the stellar effort that "never negotiating with terrorists" has done for world peace.

And God knows that young people never drive unlicensed.

Yep, because the general population strictly adheres to the "no handset" laws and so obviously we can expect good compliance and constant enforcement of this rule.

Awesome.

So instead of 4 fooli sik bros in one car, we'll get 4 fooli sik bros in two cars dragging each other. And more under 21's drink driving because they can't run a reasonable designated driver system, and can't rely on public transport to get them anywhere (let alone home).

Can't see any dangers there........

Business as usual, then.

The government's last bunch of knee-jerk initiatives were highly effective at killing more people - I can't see these being any better. I suppose it is an election year, though, and won't somebody think of the children?

And to those officers who are potentially reading this, we both know you have discretion in enforcing these hare-brained new laws. I wouldn't presume to tell you how to do your jobs, but I would suggest (as an Australian citizen and a stakeholder in the public road system) that we work co-operatively and reasonably together to reduce the road toll despite the best efforts of the ivory towered geriatrics who are unfortunately making these short-sighted and inevitably ineffective rules. There are some people (like that Maurice character, who Vic police kindly gave said discretion and he unfortunately abused) who deserve to get punished a lot more than what they got, but the "us vs them", "zero tolerance" mentality historically doesn't work. And not all of us are complete clowns.

It should be compulsory for P platers to participate in defensive driving courses, it is inexperience and disrespect for your own driving that contributes to accidents. I thought I was invincible and drove stupidly when I was on my P's over 10 years ago, I now have respect for other drivers, myself and especially my car (and kids in the car). I put that down to learning by experience and growing up. I really love going for a drive just for the hell of it, but I am so cautious of other drivers on the road and I am always prepared and expecting them to do the wrong thing.

Also would be good for p platers to attend a fatal car accident just for a reality check on how tragic it is for the the people attending the scene and families of those killed or seriously injured. I am sure this is something you will not forget and will think about when driving stupidly.

Slow down and respect the road and road users!!!!!!!!

Im a green P plater. Today I got some old guy trying to drag race me (must have been 30ish) in a clapped out VT commodore. The front was taped/cable tied on, it had un-repaired accident damage and the guy looked like an utter bogan. Every set of traffic lights for about 10 minutes he was showing me how fast his commodore could go. Where is the fairness there? I have a fairly stock, quiet R33 Gtst and I cop more negative attention than dickheads like this. I was driving off boost as i do 90% of the time but the fact that there was a skyline next to him meant that he *HAD to show off his baby V8 supercar. I cant count on my hands and feet how many guys like this try to gee me up and drive like utter wankers every day and how many of them have P plates on them? NONE.

When the 4WD debate was on a few years ago, I rang up Alan Jones and gave him a piece of his mind. I did about 100 hours of supervised learning an an 80 series manual diesel landcruiser. (3-4 years ago) and ended up getting my license in it. I agreed that you should have a truck licence to drive a car over 2 tonnes, that 4WD's not registered in rural areas should get stung etc. I actually got flamed for being a menace to society. The media does not care about the truth or facts of any kind.

I once heard a saying that 68% of all statics are made up on the spot. How true is that? I blame the media over the government because they will publicise anything that hits a nerve and sells stories. So at the end of the day we can thank the greedy media for this current bout of crap laws.

You expected rationality from a egocentric child molester?

The only communication I'd ever give Alan Jones is if I was to tattoo "f**k off" onto my fist and give him a close-up look of it.

LoL. I do hope you simply wiped out the rest of what I said simply to make your point.

But yeah, the curfew thing... Thats just even more stupid.

Back to the only 1 under 21yo passenger... What if your a teenage bride thats had twins?

i agree that they should put driver training in schools. i did it in year 11. my school made every year 11 class do it.

i think they need to be careful about what they teach and don't teach though. the one i did was mostly about braking without locking up, and braking while turning. which is what i think is the most important things to know. if they go out and start teaching kids about how to control a car if it gets sideways then you are basically teaching them to drift, which will boost their confidence and they will go do it on the road.

    • Ok glad you clarified on the frenchy’s options , I was worried about if my oem hoses would fit the new compressor or not if I just bought the bracket/compressor kit ,  didn’t realize they also sold a larger full conversion kit. Hmm may just go oem in that case then to make it easy only because I plan to sell this car to upgrade to a 32 GTR or 34 GTT.
    • Right, here's a video of the basic operation at least.  This is what you can expect day to day when you turn the car on and it boots from standby.  The only thing from a media point of view I haven't gotten working is for it to autoplay plexamp when it turns on from standby (it works from cold boot) but that's more of a plexamp problem as it will autoplay other music players.  Also attached is my one stray cable.  It's part of the screen's wiring adapters but there's just nowhere for it to go in my car.  I've just now done a bit of research and found a matching port on a 2010-2014 head unit with BOSE.  Mine has no BOSE so that's that case pretty much closed I think.  Plugging in the Infiniti AC panel basically did nothing for me, so that's a dead end as well.  Next port of call is to mess with this CANBUS module and see what I can find from it.  I found this resource containing the DBC files for a 2010+ G37 : https://github.com/icecube45/Dash_InfinitiG37/blob/master/InfinitiG37.dbc I'll now have something to go from when I try to extract my CANBUS data so I can see if the HVAC Mode, Fan Speed, Temperature, etc. match and also the gear shifter position.  It's a pretty big assumption that it's just mismatched CAN signals but considering all the devices in the CAN network are talking to each other (AC can be fully adjusted just with no info on screen) it might be a safe one.  I will report back WhatsApp Video 2025-02-26 at 12.49.10.mp4
    • Thanks for that Paul.  Do you think if I posted a picture you'd be able to remember where it went?
    • Sorry Duncan, I didn't get a notification for the replies.  Thanks for responding!  It's a full Android device, but does allow you to use CarPlay/AA as well.  This is the one I bought from NaviRS on AliExpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006368602668.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.111.59aa1802JDzQ0E - the 2K 8G-256G CAM variant but it seems to have gone up by £170 since I bought it!  My purchase was £307.14.   It's not the fastest thing in the world but performs perfectly adequately.  It stays on standby unless I disconnect the battery and let it power down, then it's just a fairly standard Android bootup time from cold.  The DSP Equaliser is very nice and made the standard stereo system sound pretty decent compared to the stock screen.  Perhaps I can take a video of it when I get a sec. It *allegedly* supports the reverse camera, but I'm yet to get that working.  It has options for reverse cam (a camera unit can be bought separately) or 360 cameras (also bought separately).  To be fair it doesn't seem to detect that the shifter was put into reverse but I'm working on a theory about this as well.  At the moment I'm going without which is a bit annoying considering the car is an absolute canal barge but so far I haven't caused any damage I'll grab a picture of the wire I'm missing later today when I can get outside.  My theory, by the by, is that not only is the head unit different, but the CANBUS network has different signals for the different years.  I think this because I have a spare AC panel from a newer Infiniti G37 (as opposed to my Nissan panel) which wouldn't control anything except the volume when I had it wired up with the stock system.  I'm going to throw it back in and see if the screen will respond to it.  I've just ordered an arduino CANBUS module so I can have a look at the signals going around the car and see if I can spot anything.  I'm thinking if I can work out what it's expecting vs what it's getting I might be able to translate and relay the signal back but so far just a theory anyway. I also found this on my travels, so far the only one that specifically matches my car: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002822934280.html?spm=a2g0s.imconversation.0.0.33433e5fgttovi If you look at the picture of the before, it has the card reader slot, and the picture of the head unit is exactly the same as the one pictured in my original post.  I asked if they sell the cables separately but sadly they won't.  I didn't want to just buy this one because it's a super old Android version and only dual core - likely slow as hell.
    • As above, you did refill the coolant and burp the system before running it again didn't you?
