Hey guys i wanted to know what are the best 2.8l stroker kits. The two that i can see are the HKS step I, II and III and the Tomei 2.8. How high can they rev too and which one do you guys recommend?

Second who has used the HKS V-Cam System? Is it a worthy upgrade? If you guys dont know what im talking about click on the link below.

Is it correct that the v cam was pretty much designed for larger turbos that did not have response?

and that its now kinda outdated as some of the new single turbos have much better response than what they did back when v-cam was made avaliable?

trying to work out what stroker kit to go for myself, my tuner has suggested JUN but it seems the tomie and HKS kits would also be suitable

I have an early rb26dett, would I be better off starting with a later block from an r33 or r34?

There were two factory r34 gtrs that came out with the v-cam, I seen this in a dvd but i cant remember which one.. I think one of them had a big turbo on maybe a t04z I cant remember.

I remember them saying it was a new break through for future enthusiasts or somewhere along those lines it would be good to hear more about it.

ok. firstly there are no factory nissan RB26s with a v-cam system of any type.

Not many guys in aus are running the HKS or tomei 2.8s. There are a few though. No-one as far as I know is running the HKS v-cam set-up in aus.

I've been lucky enough to go for a ride in a couple of 2.8 litre GTRs in japan, and one that was HKS 2.8 and HKS V-cam. It was a very, very nice set-up. but v-cam and 2.8 stroker are just a couple of parts. they do not necissarily a good set-up make. you need to look at a lot of things (like budget, what you want from the engine etc, what the car is used for) before buying them.

V-cam definately made a difference on this car. It runs a large single turbo and goes 300kph+... but this car was a top shelf effort. no expense spared. on any build V-cam would be one of the last things I'd look at. it's quite a high cost for the gain it gives.

andrew: no it's not outdated. it was only finished in 2005! it's designed for current generation turbos, not old ones.

rathur than start a new topic and without highjacking this thread to much, I was also wondering what advantages and disadvantages there are with twin or single turbos on a stroker engine?

I'd kind of like to keep my twin turbo setup, but a big single may be a more straitforward way to go on a all new and fresh stroker engine?

Okay i know the stage III HKS 2.8L Stroker kit can rev supposedly to 12,000rpm (of coure if the head is prepped to handle it) What about the Tomei kit. I wanna rev to 9.5-10k. I want a big single turbo. Basically i want a highway monster but i dont want something that will lag retardley. I want something that can also handle since i will be taking this car to the tracks. I think a TO4Z with the 1.00 A/R or the GT3582R is what im looking at.

If you want a monster go for a 2nd T04Z...1000bhp! other wise a step 3 is a waste. As BB said there are a few guys running stroker combos. I suggest you search the users "cruiseliner" and "Gav". Coincidentally both from W.A. cruiseliner has a 2.7 Jun with a T04Z and Gav has a 2.8 HKS with twin GT-RS. Good luck with this

if your that keen for the hks 2.8lt kit and the v-cam why not buy the best motoring dvd featuring the hks R34 fitted with these parts and a T04z(think) turbo?

ps a "highway monster" is going to be "laggy" no 2 ways about it

that doesnt really tell you a great deal. other than the car is more resposive down low around the track with vcam on.

unless you listen in japaneseseseses there may be some hidden message

oh i was thinking that newer larger singles were becomming more resposive maybe i been smoking a little too much crack

Pretty hard to answer such general questions without some idea of what are you going to put this engine in and what you are going to use it for. Lastly what sort of budget you are allocating, not just the engine but ALL of the other stuff necessary to make it worthwhile.

:) cheers :)

what about the tomei 2.8l stroker kit, how much can hp can it withstand? how high can it rev?

Dude be serious your not going to tell me your going to rev a street engine to 12K! Do the reading and have a reasonable plan and people will help, otherwise its just looking like your bored and want to have a chat...here it is in one sentence-HKS 2.8 step 2, N1 block, Jun oil pump, t04z .81 .

Reality check this thread please. :)

    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
    • I'd say one thing that may make you sell is the same reason the guy with the hard top roof sold his. He got old, and his back was giving him too much grief stopping him getting in and out... Old guy said he was 73! He looked and sounded younger than 73 to me! Or maybe I'm just aligning with old people more...
    • Already looked at a few prior to getting the MX5, really nice car, had all the mod cons, but I wasn't really sold on the new "look" I did miss my 2017 Limited, and I personally prefer the "look" of the older car over the new model, but, when pondering I kept going back looking at MX5's But it was same same for the new ND's, I wasn't sold on the new "look", especially the RF with its weird roof, which only half goes down, like a targa top sort of thing As I stated before, I did look at NC's, but the cars I looked at were PRHT's, but I didn't like their roof line "look" of the PRHT, until I saw the soft top version, (someone on SAU posted a for sale ad for one with a soft top that caught my attention, you can blame them for my choice.....🤣) and.... that old style detachable hard tops were available for them, which keeps the old MX5 more smoother flowing roof line, and the more rounded body style, similar to the NA-NB, to me, the arse end of the ND looks to "modern" Much like how I prefer the NC1 front bar, over the later models How long will I keep this car for is unknown, but currently, there's nothing else out there that "floats my boat" for a small, fun, little "sports car", that I can play with and enjoy looking at and driving But, who knows what the future holds, and going off current new car styling, if I replace it, it will be a older model something something
