if you are building a set-up like that i would suggest you find one. there are enough kicking around that people have been saving for builds etc. if you have the dough, then buy one.

well I'm assuming you are in the states, but even 20K USD is a long way off building the type of car you are talking about. it's not just a matter of buying a 2.8kit, a T04Z and a V-cam and then ships ahoy matey. you will need all new pulleys, harmonic balancer, prepped N1 block, complete re-done head (try buying 24 titanium valves, double valve sprins, retainers, cams, guides and then having it put together) if you want big HP and big RPM, and you want it to last more than a few passes you will need the BEST of everything. add to that a quad plate clutch, a dog gear set (or would sir prefer hollinger sequential at $22K AUD?), then add your new intercooler (cost $2.5K AUD alone), new radiator, twin oil coolers, diff cooler, trans cooler, bearings, gaskets, engine assembley, ignition system, ecu (i'd suggest motec for this set-up), injectors, fuel system (twin pumps, surge tank, all new lines both return and feed, twin feed rail, fuel reg etc). let's do the oil control. you'll need custom dry sump set-up with at least a 4 stage pump, boot mounted tank (with warmer) and all plumbed up properly. then full custom exhaust and intake piping, since we have come this far let's make it titanium as well. now you will need some nice wheels to go with your $80K set-up and some tyres to go on them. and don't forget the rest of your car is still standard and looking like crap. so lets throw in $10K on body work (conservative), and around $5K on suspension. then leave $6K for brakes so you can actually stop. now you are going to run your 900hp GTR (or whatever car it is today) at 12,000rpm on the street, so you had better be prepared for regular check-ups and inspections. may as well lease a workshop for a year, and hire your own private mechanic as there will be a years work to do building your car for one man no problem.

$20K USD will buy you fck all on that list.

Nothing further at this time your honour :P

Do you think the above order will "sneak through" customs without tax? :P

$15-20k will get you a JUN stroker and turbo(s) and good for 600awhp (or so I'm led to believe from my tuner) far more realistic than a 1000hp+ rb as outlined in the above posts the cost skyrockets much like that dyno graph

hmm maybe if it gets delivered in like 100 small pacakges? :)

:D yeah about that "dyno graph"...: :P

i can get my son to draw me a graph and read 1500Hp@17000RPM :P

Also...There has been no mention of cost on fitting and extra bits and pieces you

will need..

Buy one already with HP....saves you lots of time and money

OH great list...but I think you forgot the Turbo's...or Turbo

If anyone forwards this estimate to my wife (i.e. she learns the real cost of my build! ) I will personally hunt them down! :)

If anyone forwards this estimate to my wife (i.e. she learns the real cost of my build! ) I will personally hunt them down!

that's the email address so i dont mistake her for someone else? :)

actually i was quite supprised to see that nengun can do the hks t51r spl for 3500 delivered!

But that is only the turbo itself. Add manifold and wastegate, dump and inlet. Possibly even oil and water lines.

That list has a lot of parts missing. Add shipping and some tax, then double the lot for an 80k+ budget.

jun stroker is about 9k + gst (so 10k),

n1 block 4-5k

nismo bearings $300,

jun oil pump $1200

n1 water pump $350

machining, etc $1000 (not assembly)

engine seals, core plugs and shit is like $200-300

cams $1100

head porting $2k

clutch 3k

twin 044 fuel pumps $500

intank pump $300

turbo $3k+

fuel rail $400

ecu $3-4k

bigger sump $1-2k

manifold 2k

head and main studs - ?

retainers ?

valve springs?

ati balancer $1k

exhuast

gearbox

thats a minimal list i could think of in 2 min so add about double that and u get a jun stroker setup done properly

just internals for head and bottom end, and block for mine is like 24k, thats without turbos, no ecu, no fuel system, no nuthin.

if i knew the costs i would of gone os giken 3l personally for that little bit extra

dont let anyone tell u a big build on a 26 (using stroker kit) is 10-15k because thats rubbish

Wow some of those lists are ridiculous. Haha some of those parts are not even needed. The arc radiator?? $1600.00?? thanks but no thanks a koyo radiator will do fine. The intercooler will be custom made by XS Engineering. Like i said the V-Cam would be one of the last upgrades so i really dont need that. Like ive said for the hundreth time the hks 2.8l step 3 kit IS NOT MY ONLY CHOICE hello the tomei one costs 5k and seems to be just as good. Lastly i do not want a HKS t51 turbine. If im going single turbo im getting a kit from Full-Race which comes with a twin scroll manifold so the bigger turbos like the GT40R, GT42R can spool up somewhat quicker. Also the jun surge tank rather get the Full-Race surge tank with the 102mm throttle body.

I would like to thank everyone for there time and knowledge i did learn a lot more about what it takes to make massive hp on an rb26dett. However as i said before the 350z project isnt going and if I was going to do it then i would have gone with a huge build up. My definte project is swapping the rb26dett w/rb25det into my s14. Ill just stick with the 2.6 and get aftermarket pistons and rods. Work the head. 600hp in a 2900lb rwd should be more than enough to fly on the highway and be a total sleeper. Thanks again.

p.s. saw that the prices for the nengun list where in AUD so im not sure how much that equates to the dollar.

    • Reasonably hard, although I haven't run it with the new Endless setup yet. The old brakes were F50's on 335mm rotors and the car did a 1:40.6 at Phillip Island which is a reasonable time, I'm seeing high 600s on the temperature paint. A guy I know ran the Endless fluid at WTAC without issues and he was doing 1:33's I think (Evo) with a 355/332 setup. I don't get out to the track as much as I'd like but we put the car on the hoist and spanner check every bolt and re-paint mark everything, bleed the brakes, change the fuel, check the coolant system and re-bleed blah blah blah before every event. Motorsport is expensive, RB's are expensive so a couple of hours before an event is time well spent. It's also a net time saving because if you can keep your RB from self destructing it saves you time in the long term!
    • Welcome Alice......hope you have a bit more luck from here on! What was done in the build?
    • Hello! I'm new here, I have an R33 GTST that is currently being finished up! Last year was pretty rough, blew two stock turbos so I decided to build the car. Has been down since November, but I get it back next weekend!
    • Hello, I believe my car was imported to America in the 2000s by Kaizo Industries. Would anyone be able to help me find more info on them? I've only found all the basic stuff like that paul walker bnr34, them being shutdown by feds, just stuff like that. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
    • I am using Motec M150.  I am not working on the car myself actually.  My workshop is giving all these info, they are quite reputable in the industry and are very familiar with Motec and RBs and have done a few big setups with VCam and single turbo on RBs.  In fact, they built and tuned my engine from day one.  But they are stumped with my engine at the moment and cannot work out how come the compression is so low with the VCam. They told me that they have now swapped in some Kelford cams (without the VCam) and can achieve around 130psi compression and the low end torque is better, but now the engine is doughy as.  It boosts and peaks at more than 1000rpm slower, with twin HKS GTIII RS, it doesn't get full boost until over 5000rpm. I have always thought the VCam was a bit disappointing at the low rpm. To a point I had to ride the clutch a fair bit to get up a small hill from stand still.  That was when I had a clutch.  Now changing to a 8HP, I don't have that luxury and this problem has become a major issue. I am beginning to think the VCam never work since the day it was installed.  Maybe it was just sitting at the most advanced point, that is why it went good at top end but very ordinary at the bottom.  Therefore, with the help of the Holinger 6 speed and paddle shift, as long as it was moving, it drove pretty good.
