i don't think I would use them. for example, an A048 has a tread wear rating of 40. that's medium hard compound too. I would suggest that a treadwear of 180 is not very good for lots of road driving (too soft) and far to hard for really quick laps. you are better off with a dedicated street tyre and then a set of semi-slicks for the track. or just use the semi slicks all the time if you don't do a lot of road kms.

They are definitely a good bang for buck tyre.

Federal are soon to restructure their labelling. The SS595 will be 595. A new entry will be the 595EVO, I am told they will be a touch softer than the 595's. Then there's the semi slick 595RS.

The current SS595's are damn cheap, nothing comes close in performance for the price point. i.e 235/45/17 ~$160-180 per corner. :D

Motor magazine did the test on the SS595's. Not the semi slicks.

I'm trying tp find out if a 245/40/17 on 8" +35 rim will fit under the front guards of a gtst. I don't really like the idea of playing with different aspect/size tyres. All though it would be nice to throw a set of 595RS 255/40/17 on rear 8" rims, they apparently fit 8" rims ok.

SLY33... Have you tried that exhaust manifold yet?

i wouldn't use anything bigger than a 235 on an 8 inch rim. the manufacturers reccomendations are very conservative, and putting a 255 or 245 on an 8 wont give the best handling. a bigger tyre on a smaller rim will mean more sidewall flex which is not good. I've always found putting a smaller tyre on a wider rim gives much nicer feel.

I like:

225 or 235 on an 8

235 or 245 on a 9

245 or 255 on a 9.5

I rang my tyre shop - chatswood payless for tyres - and they said tederal dont make the 595RS in 225/50/16

only 205/50/16

would 205's be worth it? (standard r32gtst rims)

$400 each? for that dough I would be looking at RE55s instead. 235/45 on a 9 is good size though.

Yes each. If there dedicated for the track, then the RE55's would be better, but for a track/street setup the 595RS will last alot longer, has alot more tread depth.

Bring this back from the depths of lost threads

Its time for me to get some better tyres. I know that these go pretty good and price vs quality is good.

My main reason for posting is, whom here has these on a gtr and have gone to the drags?

How do they fare when cold and launching?
