Hi,

I have a friend that just bought a very tidy R33 GTR from Japan and it's on its way here. He wants to make big power (hoping for 3xx rwkw). It's pretty obvious it's gonna need a big exhaust from the turbo's back, boost controller etc. etc. but I'm more after recommendations on which garrett turbo's to get and whether or not aftermarket cams are necessary. I am very familiar with Silvia's etc and just want to know what GTR-specific things it needs.

Thanks,

Brad

theres quite a few threads on replacement twins for the gtr

check out the rb26 turbo upgrade thread stickied at the top

you are looking for

twin hks-gtss

twin garrett 2860s

twin hks 2530s

you could search for the info, but ill make it easy for you...

ECU , power FC is popular and cheap but theres heaps of others...

you will also need injectors, 700cc sards are easy, fuel pump 044 seems the go... stock fuel system is only good for ~250awkw safe...

you will also need air flow meters X2 to handle the increased flow. z32 or simlar, nismo would be my choice

and if it were me, id go the garrett GT2860r -5 turbos...

cams and cam gears, shoud see you to ~340awkw, without them, youd have to run high PSI boost to get there... ie. less safe...

It has a link that every GTR owner wanting to upgrade turbos should read

And then lots of other small informative links

Saves you even having to search

cheers

There is no consensus. Everyone has their own suggestions and ideas.

Just like how you thought the gtst limit is 280 rwkw. Some say it's more like 250-260. Others have put it to over 350 rwkw.

I don't see why a set of highflow turbos wouldn't make it over 300 rwkw. Gtrgeoff has a slide set, and put out over 310 rwkw on only 14 psi. on 18-19 psi, there's a lot more puff to go yet

People keep posting about poncams (etc) being a straight dropin etc Is swapping cams on a 100 000 km motor (or a fresh import u know nothing about) really a sane move without new springs collets etc etc etc which is more often than not a head off move so you would be mad not to clean up ports for better flow while its off. and if your going to go that far it isnt alot more work to check out rings bearings etc then u might as well balance while its apart.

Better to just do the full rebuild from the start!

Or just chuck on turbos and put aside cash for rebuild when the inevitable occurs!

trying to justify similar things myself at the moment cant u tell
