Has anybody mucked around with the hi-clone. We were debating its use on a turbocharged car the other day and it got me thinking...

So, anybody played with one on the RB25? Neo? Fuel ecconomy numbers or dyno results?

:action-smiley-069::banana:

dont go there they are crap, if you want info on them check austalian 4wd forums they tell you the same thing.... crap

^^ What he said - I put one on a mates turbo diesel 'cruiser a few years ago and it made exactly NO difference. We were really glad he won it in a 4WD gymkhana (which is a crapload of fun BTW) because if he had to pay for it he would have been annoyed at the complete and utter waste of money.

Is this the crap that you put along the fuel line to give you magical boost?

its a flash little bit of specially shaped tin that you put in the air inlet that is supposed to "create a vortex to present an ordered, denser airflow"

I have never actually met anyone that has said they used it and were impressed.

I thought it worked on the principal that a vortex had faster air flow........... try it on a big glass bottle, fill it up with water and hold it upside down and let it flow out and time it, then do the same but spin it a bit so the water spins out, you'll find it is exactly the same or a bit more as you spend a second or two spinning it to work the vortex up...........

I would just like to add that this wasn't my question, nor did I start this thread. Looks like someone was using my computer while I was in a meeting until 2.45pm.

I had already come to the same conclusion as the rest of you...but then again it would be interesting to see some hard facts and figures from a dyno run...just not sure if anybody would be prepared to waste the money.

I would just like to take this opportunity to apologise to anybody who may have thought I would be sacreligous enough to even think about installing one of these units on the Stagea

I saw a VL turbo on the dyno about 4 years ago, stock setup with a 2.5inch exhaust. The owner was sure that the device made more power. After heaps of us bugging him about it, he put it on the dyno. The deal was this: if it made more power WITH the device fitted, we all chipped in and bought him some beer and paid for the dyno session, it he lost power, he paid.

After just over 2 hours on the dyno, well, we got the beer! I'm no beer drinker, but it was interesting to see the power difference! In 5th gear at 110km/h, the device lost 2hp! we did a few runs, but the average was 2hp. the operator ramped it up, then down. The dyno operator made a comment that the fuel numbers were changing, only slightly, but changing just the same! The VL owner was chutching at straws and asked about an outright power pull.

We all agreed, we figured we had nothing to loose! the humble old VL made a duplicate shaped power curve, but it was all to the right. it lost peak power by 7-9 hp.

The arugment was settled.. but the owner of the VL stated that he MAY not have the Hi-clone in the corect place.. bla bla bla.. I have yet to see ANY car MAKE power with this device!

I wish i got a print out of that day. But rest easy, save your $$ for a real mod!

any conflicting evidence? :(

    • Connected to plenum towards the rear end. Yes, absolutely required for the ECU. Even Nistune can't save you if you don't have it.
    • Can confirm solenoid makes no difference. I finally removed the solenoid and the wire off my engine loom and there is no issue with boost. Keep in mind, this is the solenoid, and I've got a Nistune. After the boost controller, I ran the car for a day with the solenoid unplugged - no issue. So then I just ripped the whole thing out. Like @GTSBoy mentioned before, the ECU just sends an earth signal for the 2-stage boost. And looking at the wire going into the solenoid, that just had 2 standard wires and did not look important 🤣 As for boost sensor: I saw somewhere that the vacuum line the gauge uses is at the back of the engine on the driver side. I never touched that but assume ECU uses that??? (maybe? Just assuming)

Man I hated when we couldn't just compose a ringtone on a Nokia anymore! These days I just hate it if my phone rings, beeps, boops, or vibrates!
