Madtrang
Just want to know where the most common places on an 92 r32 gts-t for a power stearing leak. My power stearing pump makes a very metalic rubbing noise when she is low on fluid aswell. And she goes through the power stearing fluid quite quick. JVP
check the pump, resevoir or the high pressure lines comming off the pump and resevoir. or it could be comming from the rack itself.... hope that helps. BHDave
Most of your original power steering hoses will be perished and leaking to some extent by now. I found the first to go was the main line between the reservoir and the powersteering pump. Most of the high pressure side is in steel so isn't likely to just spring a leak. nisskid
hoses off the steering pump resevoir, hoses off the actual pump, and the hoses near the drivers side headlight. mad032
where the hose attaches to the pump from the res there is two bolts and the hose attachment comes off. Use permatex ultra blue or something along the lines of and smear a thin layer around it then replace it. Thats where mine was leaking from. Madtrang
What is the permatex for, Just to help slide on new pipes? I found the ruff location of the leak. I had red fluid around the bottom of my A/C Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/158415-power-stearing-leak/#findComment-2952873 Share on other sites

Madtrang
I think i have found the leak. As you guys have said it looks like the pipe from under neith the resevior. It's the 2 small pipes off the resivior i think. Where the best place to get some new ones/ are the realy any differnt from just a normal rubber hose you buy from supercheap? Cubes
Some one wouldn't have the hose size required for the resevior to pump? Its the larger one and it has quite a bad leak. I've replaced all the smaller ones that were slightly seeping. Cubes
I grabbed the trans/powersteer hose from the local autostore, 1m cost about ~$10. The powersteer pump big hose I grabbed from Pirtek. $9 the length cost me. All up i'd say it cost ~$40-$50 in hose, hose clamps x 10 and 1ltr fluid. Very happy its fixed. The last 2 weeks prior to fixing it I went through 1ltr. :S No special method removing pipes etc. Just rip them off. If they don't come off grab a small set of grips and twist the hose, if that still fails just chop it off with a stanley knife. The large reservoir to pwr steer pump hose is 19mm ID. 400mm max length needed, I cut mine down a little furthur so that it didn't rub on anything. Tight squeeze but worked out well.
