I just bought a cable from plmsdevelopments, you can't use it to adjust anything that I know of. At the moment I'm using the free ECUTalk software but I'm going to buy the software that plmsdevelopments made. I bought it mainly for checking error codes easily, monitoring and logging. The software from plmsdevelopments has full replay of logs that you can fast forward through, graphing etc, as opposed to text file I have to sift through :D

They also say that if you can find some key information about your ecu (addresses of certain files or something, I'm pretty sure I've seen lists of this stuff on SAU somewhere) that it will do maptracing.

I plan on getting my RB20 ecu remapped so the cable/software will come in handy then too :P

Edit: hmm maybe DataScan can adjust certain things but it would only be for that session. Oh and ROFL at that eBay store.. US and Canada only.. get it from Aus dude, cheaper and easier

single most useful thing i have for my car.

if you use nissan datascan you can do map tracing. download your fuel and ignition maps.

log data, errot test.

101 useful things.

the software that laptop comes with is datascan

datascan rocks. Love shutting down cylinders for shits and giggles.

mmmmmm that makes me think....if I'm cruising on the highway and shut down cylinders 5 and 6 will this give me charade style fuel economy???

I'd think it could lead to you putting your timing out etc seeing as the engine's not designed to run with only the front 2/3's of the pistons firing.

i got mione through caz @ cazracing:

she is in WA.. so you can buy locally!

and you can download free software for it through ecutalk:

you're welcome :O

cheers,

As for the timing.. one of the software packages I use has some diagnostic tests.

Shutting down cylinders is one of them... you can also raise (not literally, but to the ECU) the engine temp (to see if your thermo fan turns on, for example... and see how much the ignition retards)

And then there is a base idle adjustment.

I think, from memory, that you have to unplug the TPS or something when adjusting the base idle? When you hit this in the software, the idle goes up just over 1000rpm. I'm assuming it's blocking whatever signal you need (TPS?) to adjust the idle.

Timing... I think you can? Can't remember, but it's only while your PC is on and running the software, nothing is permanent. Yes.. pretty sure you can actually. Risky business, but you could play with it.

plms didnt make the datascan software, TomR33 on these forums did - they distribute it.

that ebay item was a ripoff - theyre selling it for almost double how much it cost them from blazt.biz (its around $110AU delivered for serial)

if u buy datascan off anyone, make sure they have sent an email to [email protected] swapping over the registered user to you, otherwise you wont be able to use the most recent copies of the software or get any updates.

    • CTIS (Central Tire Inflation System) has existed since the 80's. I'm looking into buying a Hummer H1 and they generally included it.
    • My idle is set at 950rpm though - Moving the timing around 20 degrees is not really what I'd call a calm idle. That said... neither is chop, by definition. The LS ECU likes to adjust timing to hold idle as opposed to air. It'd work, but generally speaking there'd be a discrepancy in the base idle and the IACV would want to move the timing around anyway to maintain said idle. I think I'm just going to keep the timing steady anyway. Preserve my engine mounts.  My aircon is now officially regassed. As the guy was reversing I noticed my reverse lights do not operate, along with my reverse cam. This is a bit distressing, because 100% of guides talk about which wire to connect to backup cams as "the goes with the [other color] wire". Often when doing conversions. Unfortunately the R34 colour wires aren't documented Unfortunately I had a T56 Magnum gearbox with it's reverse switch, which also isn't documented. Unfortunately there's definitely not documentation for people with both of these in the one car. Unfortunately I forgot. After many hours of this, I have a reverse cam and reverse lights again. The wire going through the trans tunnel to the reverse switch had broken. Upon inspection, it looks like this one wire had about 7 spade terminals and extensions in it.. for reasons I cannot possibly comprehend. I also spent the 750 hours required to clean up the wiring behind my head unit which now looks like this: This is a monumental improvement relative to what used to be there WRT triple gauges, head unit, traction control, wideband controller, and whatever the f**k OEM stuff still exists there in various states of connectivity/needed. Next step is to check in at the Exhaust shop to see/confirm how much clearance I have, to decide what mid mufflers or 'resonators' (which are just straight through, narrower mufflers) I can add and hopefully cut out a lot of exhaust leaks, pinhole, v-band or otherwise. But first step will be to 'take a look' before the next step.
    • Fark the AFM card and Nistune, Haltech Nexus S3, DBW, cruise control, flex fuel, dis dat.
    • It's most likely the bolt/bush where the cover bolts back wore and allowed cover to move forward.
    • Still haven't put the injectors and R35 AFM in so we can tune the bloody thing for the HG highflow it got mid last year! I think I can forecast the upgrade path to a bigger twin scroll, external gate, Haltech, flex setup, Samsonas, dis dat, etc will be .... a while away!
