no, a mechanical fitter, diesel fitters works on industrial motors, i work on machinery that produces electricity, eg gas turbines, steam turbines, pumps, boilers and wopping big fans :happy:. work for verve energy at kwinana power station.

a bit off topic but....

If you are a mech fitter (like me!) and you have a basic understanding of engines, most companies will give you a go in diesel fitting. The industry is really struggling for any trades at the moment. I started off by reconning heads for old birdscarer GM's and worked my way up, and I did my apprenticeship at the power stations on turbines, boilers etc. (Muja and Kwinana)

My old man is actually a fitter/machinist and he has been working as a diesel fitter for about 20 odd years.

hey newbie101, i done my apprenticeship at muja and working at kwinana whats ya last name??probably know you. and yes you are right, you can just about go anywhere these days diesel fitter doing mech fitter job, mechanic doing mech fitter and deisel mechanic and vice versa.
