much better...I've just upgraded from the 33/34 gtr brembos to the G4 gear

The only real question for me is the pads, I guess it depends which endless pads you had (they have good and bad like most brands). I can't spot a brand or specs on the G4 pads - but whatever they are they are working well even when cold

Hey Dunc's, have G4 released their front / rear combo for the GTR yet ??

i.e. full set-up

just completed another track day on full racing rubber, 4 x 20 minute sessions on the G4 356mm front and standard rear and with a lighted car i can match the braking performance of the turbo or GT3 porsche.

as Duncan said i wonder about the pads but i can complain as they stop bloody well but wear quite quickly too. I know they are a AP 6pot brake pad shape so i will be ordering a suitable pad to see if that makes it even better.

You will need a 18" wheel to fit the 356mm kit on as i do and they fit well under them but would not want any smaller than that.

Pretty reasonable to assume the G4's are incrementally better but do you really get $2500 worth ($5,000 in the case of F & R) of increased performance over the Brembos/DBA/Endless set up? If you're building a serious track car, maybe. For street - I have to believe that that kind of money can be spend on other things that will get you a better return...

Good point Tjandriesen and i think for a street car they may well be over kill. But any car with 540AWHP street or track is going to need some kind of brake improvement.

As good as the standard bremo units are they are going to struggle if used in anger on a track. I was happy with my old nissan units and until i changed over i didnt realise how much better the bigger rotors were. sort of simular to standard turbos, yes they are good but are no match to the after market units available now.

Still personal preference and your point about a street car has lots of merit

I can only run 17" so I stuck with 330 fronts. 18" to clear 356 fronts

(Steve found 1 set of 17s that fit over the 356, super expensive comp race wheels)

uras 17" will also fit the G4/ K-sport/ D2 brakes from memory. 17x 9.5 +15 offset we have a set on a 10 sec r33 GTR here with 355mm AP's and there is about 4mm to spare.

what about the wp setup for $6700. i am looking for a set of brakes for my r33 gtst. will make around 350rwkw and only see the track rarely. considering these wp's or a set of GTR brembos. i think the G4's look horrible, thats the only thing that seems to turn me off.

also how much of an improvement is the stopping power with gtr brembos and DBA rotors compared to factory gtst items? is it really that noticeable?

by the way here is a pic of the wp brakes:

Braking power? Are you sure you are using the term power correctly. Fact is for a few stops its debatable that $15,000 Harrops will stop the car in a shorter distance then std GTR brakes with good pads etc. (Generally speaking)

If by stopping power you mean shorter stopping distances then there isnt much in it. Its not like you rock up to turn 2 at Wakefield and you will be able to dive up the inside of another car with std calipers. If you are out there for 10 laps you will find that your brakes will be far more consistant and offer far better feel.

Question is that improvement worth the expense and what you do with the car. There are a few guys on the forum that have gone for pretty good setups and i would be interested to hear if they truly believe that the brakes have meant they have actually improved lap times. If so id like to know how many tenths a lap they attribute to their brake setup.

That said i dont doubt that better brake feel means you are more comfortable in the braking zone...but nicer and easier is sure better, but if the cheaper and nastier std gear can do almost the same job for a few laps at a sprint day????

With regards to the G4, i would liek to see a set go through a set of pads and see how even the wear has been on the pad and the rotor. Then at the end of the next set of pads see if the pistons move freely and the pads still wear evenly

Tell you one thing Roy with 8 pots being filled the brake fluid level drops when your pads get down.

No issue yet as pads pushed back nicely when put new items in on all 4 pads.

Old pads looked ok to me not much of a uneven wear pattern, lets see how the second set wear will post some pics as old one have been binned.

Yes and no LOL

I have ordered the same pads again as they looked great when the came out no burnt edges etc still nice grey color. But takes time to get them here to dubai from Just Jap in Australia.

I have found a supply of friction performance 93 pads which are from the BTCC in the UK so i am going to do some testing with these and compare the two keeping in mind the FP93 are only 46mm radial depth while the Just jap pads are 51mm radial depth

    • Boot is going to be replaced eventually. I just wire brushed what I could and rust converted. Then painted in rust kill primer. the spoiler also got repainted and plugs replaced on the ends. The under side of the bonnet is going to be black also, currently white. But red on the top side, same colour code as the silo to begin.
    • Hi guys, has anyone either purchased or built themselves a rotisserie for their car before? I can only just justify the need for one hence why I should just make one but at the same time, if I make one I can kiss another 4 weeks of potentially productive car working time goodbye because I'm building a bloody rotisserie....  I mainly want it for the application of the body deadener.  Cleaning the old stuff off, priming and then colour over the deadener doesn't worry me, it's just the application using the Schutz Gun that I feel would achieve a significantly better finish painting it side on and keeping the Schutz Gun upright.  I don't think they would work well on the side let alone almost upside down for some areas.  If the product I use (Terosun, etc) could work through a HVLP ok then it might be ok to apply without the rotisserie.   I can get one of these style ones for about $1200 which is pretty good value-     I reckon if I made one it would cost around $500 but it's more the time that it would take is more of a killer than the cost.  They look to hold their value pretty well second hand so I could always sell it after using it and realistically only lose $200-$300 at worst.  Or keep it and buy another project when this one finally sees the light of day... Anyone selling one...? Cheers!
    • While it is a very nice idea to put card style AFMs into the charge pipe (post intercooler, obviously), the position of the AFM and the recirc valve relative to each other starts to become something that you really have to consider. The situation: The stock AFM is located upstream the turbo, and the recirc valve return is located between the AFM and the turbo inlet, aimed at the turbo inlet, so that it flows away from and not through the AFM. Thus, once metered air is not metered again, neither flowing forwards, or backwards, when vented out of the charge pipe. When you put the AFM between the turbo outlet and the TB, there is a volume of pressurised charge pipe upstream of the AFM and there is a volume of pressurised pipe downstream of the AFM. When the recirc valve opens and vents the charge pipe, air is going to flow from both ends of the charge pipe towards the recirc valve. If the recirc valve is in the stock location, then the section between it and the TB doesn't really matter here - you're not going to try to put the AFM in that piece of pipe. But the AFM will likely be somewhere between the intercooler and the recirc valve, So the entire charge pipe volume from that position (upstream of the AFM, back through the intercooler, to the turbo outlet) is going to flow through the AFM, get registered as combustion air, cause the ECU to fuel for it, but get dumped out of the recirc valve and you will end up with a typical BOV related rich spike. So ideally you want to put the AFM as close to the TB as possible (so, just upstream of the crossover pipe, assuming that the stock crossover is still in use, or, just before the TB if an FFP is being used) and locate the recirc valve at the turbo outlet. Recirc valve at the turbo outlet is the new normal for things like EFRs anyway. In the even of a recirc valve opening dumping all the air in the charge pipe, pretty much all of it is going to go backwards, from the TB to the recirc valve near the turbo outlet. But only a small portion of it (that between the TB and the AFM) will pass through the AFM, and it will pass through going backwards. The card style AFMs are somewhat more immune to reading flow that passes through them in reverse than older AFMs are, so you should absolutely minimise the rich pulse behaviour associated with the unavoidable outcome of having both a recirc valve and an AFM in the charge pipe.
    • Yep, in my case as soon as I started hearing weird noises I backed off the tension until it sounded normal again. Delicate balance between enough tension to avoid that cold start slip and too much damaging things.
