Just don't do it, there are plenty of places to go for a drive to that are well out of the way (and i know sydney and melbourne well enough to know there plenty of places). Its easier in Canberra yes, but its one of those inevitable things that your going to get caught eventually.

I stick to the track personally and when on the road i dont get bothered by the police because i drive like everyone else.

(not a personal dig at anyone, just saying its not a hard thing to do)

Its like they are waging a war against terror on the road.

If they think your car looks fast and you decided to take off quick

at a set of lights your a criminal.

Like the war against terror.....if you have a beard and look suspicious you are a terrorist.

We are over governed...and over policed..and there is no support indicating they are actually lowering road tolls or making our streets safer.

This is why they advertise so heavily to make us believe they are doing the right thing. So if you look like a hoon and have a car that looks fast...you are a hoon.

They are the terrorist..putting fear in everyone to raise money "3K ffs"

+1 I agree.!

I mean Nothing stops them from Pastor John in his nice skyline saying hes a hoon when hes not, and slapping him with a fine. and impounding his car. from a cop whos revenue raising on a power trip.

And we see this crap happening too often. how can you condone that scathing? You must think they are doing a great job cause it hasnt happened to you yet. .. But dont worry. it will eventually if u drive a nice car.

I don't care who you are that's really f**king over the top. I don't really like street racing but god damnit this country is f**king stupid sometimes.

hey cc, yes it was definately over the top. I still think about it everyday.

I dont street race I am not stupid at all on the roads. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time (just after riots) and the way he saw it i was racing.

The only way to beat a cop is to become one. sadly :)

They need to make some more rules... it should not be racing until speed limit is exceeded by more than 10 kph.. I used to have and still do have sooo many people race me up to the limit (regardless of being in the skyline, corolla or valiant), i think it's the P's.. I've had people from every type of life style, age, sexual orientation and demeanour drag me off.

Just the other day i had a guy in an MPS try to cut me off and run my skyline into parked traffic.. There was no way i could brake and fit in behind the tram behind him and he had just decided he was going straight instead of turning off..I had to "drag him" so that i didn't lose the front of my car.. cool that i could have lost my licence for that.. cool that i can lose it every time i accelerate reasonably rapidly to the speed limit and the guy next to me does likewise..

WELL SAID ;)

those wanting the low down on street racing laws:

I am a culprit, got caught racing a mate off the lights up to the speed limit.

Lost license for 1 year, straight to court disqualification. 3 month impoundment of vehicle, on the spot tow trucks.

car was kept at enfield for 3 months.

charged 1500$ fine and towing fee was 400 and storage fees were 1000

total of 2900 not including court fees

:-)

completely dicked get license back this september after 18 months without it.

repeat offenders of "street racing"

second time your car is illegible to be sold by government pending courts decisions. fines and time increase.

third time is automatically given to the crown (sold at auction) money kept.

lose license for 3 - 5 years pending court decision

I thinik most of us her are mature enough to know that, like 'steveo_r33' has kindly pointed out, that street racing is stupid. Enjoying your ride and hard work with mods is one thing, appreciate the rush with speed is another but - racing illegally on the streets and possibly endangering others is something that should not ever be done. I used to be a hoon but have totally stopped... nearly killed myself a few months ago when I (in my supercharged Honda Accord) flew down the street against a FC Rx7 - yeah sure, I ate it by 2 car lengths... but all the shit after that is something that I will never attempt again.

Laterz,

1. its good to be off the p-plates. minimal cop hassles.

2. public roads are not the place to race. yes i understand we enjoy giving our cars a squirt, but thats not the same as racing.

3. its good to be off the p-plates. i can't stress that enough!!! ;)

You'd better go edit the Wikipedia entry for drag racing then.

To my mind, a drag race is a straight line run between multiple vehicles over a pre-determined distance. It doesn't have to be a sanctioned event.

It says it on the internet so it must be true. >_<

So... what happens with time slips?

Do you pick them up at the McDonalds drive-thru?

.... does that mean that 11.75 is the cost of a meal and not my 1/4 mile time?

>_<

Why not? Its where I read that "drag racing" required that it be off-street.

I thought a straight up drag race was a race for position? The person who crosses the finish line first wins? Your actual times are irrelevant to determining the winner. Finding out your time would be a bonus, but you could run a 1 hour ET and still win, as long as the other racer crosses the line after you.

I do appreciate that there are various "subtypes" of drag racing that allow for different handicaps, but in the end its still a straight line contest between multiple cars running at the same time on the same course.

Is it illegal to accelerate to the speed limit of the road you are on as fast as your car will allow?

Im sure it is, if not the good old 'reckless driving' law would cover it, yet car magazines all flaunt cars 0-100km/h times when really you can only ever do this on a track >_<

AND if maximum acceleration is not allowed then where is the line? 80% throttle? No break in traction?

I spose the laws will be made to suit so that anyone that the Police want to fine/impound etc etc they can

    • What can't be done with a little bit of decking board or similar timber bolted to a hub flange via 2 wheel nuts is not worth talking about.
    • I noticed something. On the tps sensor and the sensor behind the adjustment screw is adjusted towards the far left. Are these screws supposed to be centered? (this sensor was in the same position before the tune as well)  Also attached a photo of where my car usually idles at when warm (sometimes a tiny bit above that). I think I might have screwed up the calculation and it might have better than I thought lol at 750rpm still not 650rpm though.
    • So for both general interest of engine health, and to rule out any coolant/oil issues, I organised an oil analysis done on the 125,000klm oil Results below, all good, just a bit of fuel dilution which I'm not too worried about
    • This is actually a really good way of measuring what wheels fit. If only there was a similar measurement between hub face and suspension :p That said, it's probably pretty simple to actually measure it all with the wheel off the car for the rear. The front is a bit more complex but..
    • Being the top Google search result for R34 wheel-related inquiries, lemme throw down my experience. I calculated that 100mm from hub face to wheel face is about the perfect fitment for my ENR34 sedan.  I've been running 18x8.5s, ET35, with a 1" spacer. So, 8.5in to mm = 216mm. 216/2 = 108mm. 108-35 = 73mm. 73+ 25 (1" to mm) = 98mm.  If you wanna get close to this on dif widths, here are the offsets you'll want: 9" - ET around 15mm 9.5" - ET around 20mm 10" - you're crazy, but ET around 30mm All these should fit perfectly on a non-widebody, non-GTR Skyline. Note that it's probably the absolute max, and you're probably better off running a couple degrees of camber in this config, but it looks great, super flush.
