the power to weight ratio law applies for a particular reason

if it was no v8,turbos or supers but everything else is ok

that means you could drive a porche on a P-plate and im sure a young driver could quite easly kill thmeselves and others in a porche

and you also couldnt drive a Smart car (800cc 3-cylinder turbo making about 50hp)

thats why the power to weight laws apply and will stay

the 3 demerit points is actually gonna deter people from driving high powered vehicles, looks like the P plater + high performance car combo days r over

Restrictions on driving high powered vehicles such as eight cylinder cars, cars with turbocharged or supercharged engines, and nominated high performance six-cylinder cars. Offences will attract a fine and three demerit points.
exellant

What do you mean 'excellant'? This is not good at all! Whats the diff doing 180 in an excel or a skyline?

All comes down to driver attitude and unfortunately some people f**k it up for younger people doing the right with their high powered cars eg me.

...ps its excellent btw

The difference, is that a "high powered vehicle" is capable of reaching high speeds over a very short period of time and over a much shorter distance than the average run about.

......where as with an Excel, you're more likely to get foot fatigue from holding your foot to the floor for 3 hours while trying to get it to go 180kph.

You wouldn't bother dragging in an excel either because you will run out of road :)

But what your saying is very true, reaction times experience reading traffic on your P's these things are not second nature and can get you into trouble, add fast acceleration and speed then you have a reciepe for an accident. That is the publics and governments take on the situation. This also goes for most insurance companies too. They wouldn't even look at me for insurance for a turbo car under the age of 25 (esp if your male).

If you own a high powered vehicle and drive responsibly it's not the point. The point is that the minority of drivers in the same boat as you have drawn public attention. Then the public want action, then the politicians react to cover their ass for votes.

Welcome to the circle of life and politics in Victoria. :) At the end of the day if it saves lives and declines the amount of younger drivers killed it is good thing. (That is a very BIG IF)

please refrain from making such comments..........thank you

We're the ones who are going to have to put up with your whining and complaining, and the 70 threads you're going to start about how much of an outrage it is that you lost your licence for driving a vehicle which you shouldn't have been driving, or how evil the insurance companies are because they won't pay out on your next 'at fault' accident because (again) you were driving a car that you shouldn't have been driving.

.....so take it like a man, or take it somewhere else

lol seems like the joke got serious eh?

im pretty sure u cant lose ur licence for driving High powered cars, u only get fined?, i havnt had any trouble so far (been pulled over more then 8 times now, no defect or epa nothing so i dont really care atm)

its not like im dragging every tome dick and harry i see, or doing burnouts infront of the ladies.

or how evil the insurance companies are because they won't pay out on your next 'at fault' accident because (again) you were driving a car that you shouldn't have been driving.

okai okai i guess the definition of "at fault" is a bit diff here? okai i guess i was at fault even though i didnt pay a cent to the insurence company and my rating has just gone up

and insurence companies dont care about if im driving a high powered car or not, the policy is as long as the cars legal, its covered.

but its illegal for you to be driving your car on your p's?

Your speaking about being roadworthy aren't you?

Which insurance company are you with, just out of curiosity?

Cheers
