Try perFOURmance on Allgas St, they guys there put all the turbo gear on my last R34 and were great!

x2 . robin knows what hes doing! see the beige wagon he has there and ask about it...

he's usually got a few cool things in the shop at any given time. (last I saw was a 3L 6 turbo liberty!)

haha if I had of got the car privatly what is stopping them from getting a dodgy roady? At least I have a month or first 1000km's to find everything thats wrong and make the dealership pay for it. I am getting another Road Worthy tomorrow (from a person I can trust) and sending it back to the dealer on thursday to get all the repairs done.

So far the dealership has been good about it all, They have agreed to fix the headlight and washer jets/bottle (whatever the problem is there). Also I have let them know about the chassis as well and they have agreed to check it out and get it fixed if need be, If my roady comes up it with it needing fixing tomorrow then i guess they will need it fixed.

Tripper i hope it all works out for you. Perhaps you misunderstood what I was saying. There are people involved in this forum that know more about skylines than your average mechanic would ever dream of. Given my time over i would gladly pay them to check out a car i was interested in before it even got near a rwc joint. Fortunately I dont have the probs you do but in hindsight I could have.

Its one thing to have a car with sound mechanicals but when you are dealing with grey imports there are a lot of other issues to be considered. This is where the expertise available on these boards is invaluable.

Good luck with it all bloke. i hope you enjoy your car as much as I am enjoying mine.

Even with the issues of the car it has been my fav car I have ever driven. I have driven things from the bottom of the barrel (Gemini's, Corollas etc) to mid range things (Falcons, Commodores, Fairlanes, Telsta's). Until the skyline came the gemini was my fav car to drive because of the handling it has and now with the skyline I have great handling and also good power. I can't wait to get the car back from the dealer when the repairs are done and just knowing I can finally just go for a walk outside my house and look at a skyline its one of my dreams come true.

Alright guys just got the car back from a trusted mechanic to have a look over everything. Basically what he said about the chassis is that they have put a different rear end on it and they have only spot welded it in and not run a full weld over it. So tomorrow it goes back to the dealership for them to fix it and a few other things (washer bottle, drivers headlight, gearbox mount).

They've put a different rear end on it??? That sounds so bad...like a cut and shut or rebirthing scam happening..I hope it all goes well for you in the end but if it was me, I would be asking for my $$ back and walk away. Do tell which dealership this is as I'm really curious now..u can PM if you need to. Regardless of what promises made by the dealership to "fix" it, I doubt they will actually fork out a lot more $$ to do a proper job and at the end of the day its at your cost as well in $$ and time keep on going back and getting a 3rd party to re-check everything...

I would prefer not to mention the dealerships name currently. So far I don't really have a problem with them. They have been good in regards to the problems it has and have agreed to fix everything. If they decide to get ugly then yeah I will warn people about them but so far they have been good. Also it will be going back to the same guy that checked it out today for me once all the repairs are done. I am more then willing to recommand him even though he doesn't really work on Skylines he great for safety checks. He left the car on the hoist for when I got there so he could show me everything he found wrong with it underneath. The place I got the safety check done is S.W.C Automotive, Ask for Shane.

This car sounds a long way from roadworthy...serious breach of the TPA depending on how they sold this car to you and what they did/didn't disclose. Unless you got it REALLY cheap i'd be demanding money back, cut n shut jobs are bad enough, let alone a dodgily done one.

Good luck with everything mate.

Matt

Well so far I hold all the cards. I have the dealership warrenty, I have the so called roadworthy, The car has only done 60km's since leaving the dealership. Also I have receipts from everything I have personally done and got the workshops to right down on the receipt what they found wrong while doing what they had to do. I am also going to demand an engineers report on the chassis once they get it fixed.

your car sounds like several I have worked on. mainly 32s with the front literally half hanging off. if you have a cut and shut - run away.. it will cause you more greif than you will ever want.

Well its at the dealership getting repaired. I miss understood what the guy said to me, It would appear the spot welds that are there are just broken on some and need re-doing. He was saying alot of places if it was cut and shut would have run a full weld across the rear. I checked out a couple R32's at the yard when I dropped it off today and they are spot welded in the same place (just dont look broken). Hopefully I get the car back soon but not too soon. I don't want a phone call tomorrow saying the car is ready I would prefer it to be a few days so I know they have done a decent repair. They also know I will be taking the car for another check at S.W.C once the work has been carried out to make sure they didn't skip any corners.

haha if I had of got the car privatly what is stopping them from getting a dodgy roady?

u get it checked out by a trusted mechanic before you buy it?

never ever hand over cash for a car without getting it fully inspected first (if you dont have a mechanic, get racq to do it, anyone who is trust worthy

they dont even have to know imports (obviously it helps) )

if i were you, id be asking for all my money back and give this car back, good skylines are expensive to maintain

i woudlnt want to know what a lemon costs to keep on the road :(

In a perfect world I could trust a roadworthy (which the car was sold with) but after finding the headlight and washer bottle not working (no water was in the washer bottle when I picked up the car) I had to question the road worthy that was given. Those are 2 very basic things on a roadworthy and take all of 5 seconds to check. If it wasn't for those items and me wanted to replaced the clutch I would have never known about the chassis and the other things listed. I prefer spending abit extra to get things checked out and everything while it is still under the dealership warrenty because the warrenty people keep saying is worth nothing is the warrenty you get AFTER the dealership warrenty runs out (first month or 1000k).

So for the next 3 weeks the car is still under dealership warrenty and if after I get it back and there is stuff that still needs repairing it will be going straight back to them. I wouldn't call the car a lemon, it is actually quite nice to drive and the engine seems to be in good condition as well but from going to a skyline from a gemini I spose a smart car would be great drive compared to the gemini.

I would suggest if buying from a dealership to get the roadworthy done by someone you can trust, I have the name of the guy that did the roadworthy for my skyline that the dealership got out to do it and I know I would never trust him. The dealership itself is being rather good about all this, there is problems and I have let them know and now they are fixing them. I would still recommand the dealership to others but request they get there own roadworthy done on the car at purchase as the people at the dealership have been very helpful this whole time and hasn't refused to fix anything or given me a hard time about anything.

    • Hi guys, Sorry to butt in and take it slightly off course, although still on the VCAM subject.  I had VCAM put into my Tomei 2.8 bottom end and I struggle to take off because the engine has very little torque caused by VERY low dynamic compression at 60psi. But once off the mark and especially on boost, the engine rev happily all the way to 8000rpm and makes 630hp at 20psi of boost on E85 at the rear hubs. Has anyone had any similar experience or any suggestions on what might cause this low compression at low rpm? I am in the process of converting it into a 8hp transmission and with this low torque, the engine would not even stay running until the throttle is opened to more than 30% and then I loose all vacuum.
    • Last year I got a set of MCA street coilovers for my turbo Forester after my son hitting a concrete gutter/wall on a small bridge causing the whole drivers side suspension to get bent because the rain just made the car slide out I love them, I think they were $2400. even had a hiccup of have the wrong hub configuration (my fault) so got onto MCA and they sent the correct shock ends overnight parts from QLD, for free!  I was very impressed with their customer service and quality of the product
    • They've had some weird failures on their brake actuators. One of them was because they added some kind of lubricant to the factory fill brake fluid that aftermarket brake fluid didn't have so it would affect the seals. Another was just mysterious, probably internal corrosion or something eating away at Prius brake actuators. Parts alone for those are a few thousand USD so not a cheap fix.
