I know i posted the same post in bootcrusin..its cause after i posted dat, i relised i was supposed to put it here. oh btw...not in skool...am 26 need to no anythin else officer realist...

If you expect people to take you seriously and answer your questions, learn to talk like an adult instead of a 14yo.

+1

and if its going to cost you heaps to fix - take it to an unsuspecting dealer, trade it in for something thats not going to cost u as much to maintain....

personally - wouldnt have bought that for 14 grand in the first place - 32 gtrs usually around the 20 grand figure if you want a decent one....

FFS - type in english please!!

I have just read two forums of this crap and it annoys the hell out of me when someone spends more time on MSN than in real life.

I work on a LOT of those cars and I'll say right now you are going to need ANOTHER $15k to maintain it!

these guys KNOW the inherent bugs in these cars - listen to them!

Hey guys, i am very happy 2 say dat I am at last a prowd owner of a R32 GTR!! U guys have no idea how bloody rapt i am! Anyways, I had a few questions to ask, how do i turn off the 4WD light in my dash, wont turn off?? does anyone have any problems wit GTR gearbox/transmission? cause my 1 is much louder once it hits 4gear.. and da transmission in general is noisy.

I live in melb, does ne1 no of a place where i can take it 2 get it lookd at and if possible get it roadworthy? I have to get a roadworthy, as i bought it at a auction. U guys would never guess how much i picked it up 4!.....hmmm... $14,750! dunno wat u guys think but i reckon dats a bargain!

buddy i sincerely hope you're joking when you say that $2500 is all you have left for insurance, service, etc. That might get you through with a decent condition gts-t but not a 32 gt-r of all things.... have fun eating bread and water for the next few months.

All the best mate but a 14000 gt-r will cost you a lot more than 14000. To give u an idea:

Service in la-la land where nothing is wrong with your bargain (filters, belts, oil, air-con, 4WD etc): ~$1000

Back here in the real-world: $1000 + ~$3000 gearbox + $3000*+* insurance + roadworthy + registration + tyres..... you get the point.

Good luck

I wont bother trying to flame you with this reply as you're doing a good enough job of that yourself. It is pretty funny that you're 26 and still talk like a 14yo "gangsta" though. If you don't believe me, maybe listen to everyone else on here....they're all singing the same tune...think it's a coincidence..I think not. A big good luck to you with your "bargain" GTR!

p.s. Nice work on spelling sophisticated right.....dictionary.com?

Seriously, you need to get the car to a good mechanic and have him take a look at it. At $14K, we all may be wrong but you would expect it to have a few issues. Look around a bit and you will find several good, serious shop who know Skylines. Many of them will take a look at it for free on the understanding that you will give them business in the future. Once you know what the "real" costs will be, you should consider if you want to keep it or trade it. For 20K you can get a very nice non-GTR car which will be much lower costs to maintain. Part of the pleasure (for me at least) is modding a car how you want it. Spending $$$ on fixing broken things and maintence really diminishes your abilty to do that. Of course if you're good at working on cars, that might be a different situation.

Welcome to the GTR club - it's not a cheap club to be in....

When purchasing a car, Think to yourself,

If i can't afford to maintain the car and insure it, I cant afford to buy it - Regardless if you have enough money to make the purchase. Looks like you just went balls and all and bought it without thinking about that.

Oh well.

Good luck i suppose, Let us know when you get off your p's.

(I am 16 and i can spell better then you. If this is a trolling thread then you've done well)

OK OK.. since everyone has sang the same tune in regards to my typing, I will start writing (as I would in a bloody essay!) I took it to a place in Ringwood (VIC), where apparently thay are well known as being a good store and specialise in GTRs.. Well the verdict was, $2580 (transmission, service etc). Well I guess Im going to have to dig into my savings account again. Once again, thanks to all the people that actually stuck to my topic/questions and their opinions. All the others that seem to be obsessed about my typing and anything else I said, I honestly didn't know guys can moan and cry like that over something so small and insignificant. For any of those interested, I'll post some pics of the car tommorow..

BTW! Me still on Ps?? nah sorry, been off them for quite a while now!

hey buddy,

congrats on the purchase! dont worry about the others being anal - they like that most of the time lol (j/k) although at 26 you do write kinda funny

welcome to the skyline club - fingers crossed yours isn't a lemon. Remember, when it comes to these cars - you get what you paid for, so don't cheap out on parts or service or it will cost you twice as much in the long run.

Post up pics of your new baby for all of us to see too

cheers

    • Very nice - I also have a 92 GTST and hardly see any others around these days
    • When I need something else to edit, I use Movavi. A friend who does video editing on a daily basis recommended me) it's an easy video cutter to use for beginners

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
