When I bought my car it had a massive Blitz pod filter installed. (Stock S2 R33 + HKS Catback). Today I swapped the POD for a factory airbox and snorkel with generic filter. I have noticed an increase in power, the engine runs a lot smoother and sounds way better. The Blitz pod didn't do much in the way of filtration, should I worry about any damage to the engine from any particles it may have ingested?

The first thing I did to my r34 was wack on a pod filter and I also found a drop in power, went back and got a K&N flat panel and put the airbox back in and was much better. Then the FMIC install meant replacing with pod filter again.

As for particles, how much flow did it have, was it sucking up stray cats off the road ? I'd think any kind of foreign debri wouldn't be good but if it is a dense filter I wouldn't worry too much. But if it is a high-flow alley mesh filter I think they are bad news for daily drivers.

It was an alloy mesh Blitz POD and was responsible for a 75% decline in stray cats around where I live. I am very happy that my car is now more stealth, doesnt suck all of the hot air from under the bonnet and possibly filters dirt from the air before passing through my engine. I am investigating going with a NOS fogger setup or water methanol injection with an R34 or ARC SMIC rather than going with a FMIC, but if I do, I will have custom piping made up so that I can still use the Airbox.

For all the hype I heard about POD filters, the only advantage it gave me was in picking up car slu*s. It made the engine run rough when hot, didnt filter air very well and was generally SHIT. If you have just bought a Skyline DO NOT PUT A POD FILTER ON WITH YOUR CATBACK EXHAUST AND BLEED VALVE. :)

*shrug* I didn't notice a drop in power when I put my Apexi pod on - nor does mine idle rough at all.

My setup will be changing though soon, just not sure what to..

(Apexi/K&N panel filter, Pod enclosure or ARC airbox)

I have heard that the only issue with the stock airbox is that the rubber piping can suck in if you use the OEM airfilter. With a K&N panel filter and maybe SS piping before the turbo it would be fine. There are heaps of members here running 300+ Rwkw cars with factory airboxes. The way I see it is unless you have a decent CAI setup, you are going to be sucking hot air from under your bonnet. I see a slight restriction as being much better than sucking air in that may be 20'c+ above ambient temperature.

hmm maybe the blitz pod was just dirty and really old..

I loved it when i put my apexi pod on..

you get what you pay for, and the apexi pod is damn gd quailty..

But i didnt notice any drop of power!! lol..

(I also got a proper inclosed cold airbox)

After a year, its still going strong!!

Fair point there... i'm going back to stock air box at the moment i thaught i'd just leave it after i clear my defect anways... the only thing is that i've got a gt2876R with a .70 comp cover and 3" SS intake pipe.. all needs to be modified again including the cold side of the intercooler pipe lol headf**ks but yea if people are running 300kw+ with standard air box i see a really good reason to go back to stock :)
