Hey everyone..

Just a quick question.

I will need to replace my rear brake pads sometime soon..

The rear rotors are a little uneven so i thought i might as well replace those at the same time.

Just 500kms ago, i replaced my front rotors with normal rda rotors (non-slotted) With Nissan brake pads.. They work well for normal street driving..

So my question is..

Should i buy rear slotted rotors (getting them at a very cheap price) plus say bendix ultimates (getting that cheap as well) Or just buy normal rotors for the rears?

Will it make much difference?

With better brake pads in the rear??

Just a quick question while on this topic....!

If you have the slotted rotors up front - is there much of a gain fitting slotted in the rears?

Do people actually notice a difference? much or not?

Just wondering if I should upgrade rear discs...

I expect slotted rotors (or any upgraded rotor) at the rear will have minimal effect on braking efficiency, since the majority of the braking is carried on the front rotors / pads.

The best result I achieved was after fitting braided lines (even better than simply replacing with new Nissan rubber lines).

^^ yup i like these standard nissan pads. No noise whats so ever and they work very well..

Have not tested it on a track day or continous braking.. But they seem fine for normal street driving..

it's not really an 'upgrade' just different. slots will help de-glaze the pads and also allow gas buildup to escape. they don't affect stopping power, or feel really at all.

But how is it not an upgrade, ive changed my rotors and pads over to bendix pads and dba golds and the difference is huge, i do have to warm them up a bit to get them at optimum braking efficiency but they pull my car up heaps better than standard rotors. I dont get brake fade anymore.

Well thats better than standard... so it would be an upgrade yes?

Either way they are better in the long run as they do stop the glazing up, so they give you the same 'feel' and stopping power for longer.

But in answer to the orginal question I would say just for the rear probably a waste of money. That said if they are cheaper than standard rotors get them, then spend the money you save on better brake fluid or pads or something.

My back is probably a little wider than most people my size and weight so I would most certainly need the XL seat by the sounds of it.  The car is insured to drive 1000km a year (might up that at some stage) but it would likely take me at least 5 years before I would ever get close to 15,000km.     • Good. I was worried we were still talking about the block. Yes, larger baffled sump is a good idea. Do not touch the pump unless you're going on a whole build saga. Read the oil control thread on here - at least the last 100 pages or so. We drew some reasonable things together in there. The short version is that venting the sump is more important than almost anything else you do.
    • Perhaps just get a proper mechanic who is good with Nissan autos (they were more or less the same across all the RWD, FWD, 4WD cars at that time, even if they were actually different boxes) to give it a good going over. He might be able to plug in a Consult or other scan tool and find out if it's got some fault codes. Otherwise, my approach to the problem if not liking the way the auto was workign behind my RB20 turbo, was to drop it on the workshop floor and put in the manual box that it really needed. That solved all the auto problems.
    • Gotcha, I mean that is at least good to hear. Are there signs, or troubleshooting tips to make sure the transmission is operating properly?
