Hey guys, i'm looking to upgrade to what I see as the pinnacle in my automotive interest. I started with an R32 GTST (loved the turbo, loved the feel of the car) then moved onto an R34 GTT (loved as the previous, but also the more modern feel, better condition etc) Now I want to move onto an R34 GTR but I realise I don't know all that much about them. I've been looking at them for the past few weeks but was just wondering if anyone could help me out with a few things.

1) What is the average cost of an R34 GTR? Ie what is the amount of money I should set aside to get myself a good conditioned low km R34.

2) What is the reason for the huge price differences between some of the R34 GTR? As an example if you look at this link (it was a price sorted r34 search but doesn't seem to work as a link) there's upto $20,000 difference between GTR of similar year, mods etc. How much would YOU pay for a stock or lightly modified 1999-2001 GTR?

3) Am I looking at saving much money if I import one myself? I imported my R32 GTST and hated the experience (mainly because i bought a bit of a dud) My R34 GTT I got from perth so had a few hassles with blue slip etc. So i'm opting for buying one from NSW but if there's a huge saving/more choice to be had from importing...

4) Will they hold their value well? I know they're the last of the 'old school' style skylines, so I figure that will act in their favour a bit... Is the price going to drop dramatically if i wait a year or two?

5) Will it be much of an improvement over my R34 GTT? It's the nicest car I've ever driven... with 200rwkw and HKS suspension etc. But i'm hoping a car worth twice the money will be twice as nice. (maybe not twice, but nicer?)

6) How much power would I expect from a stock car? I know they quote 206kw but any dynos to show actual awkw or rwkw?

At the moment i'm budgeting around $60,000 and would love a Bayside Blue one like my GTT, but I won't be purchasing it for 6-12months (buying a house first)

FYI - when I first got mine back in 03 I had a 100% stock R34 GTR dyno'd and it made 177awkw's.

With an exhaust, cam gears, boost upped to 15psi and a power fc that was increased to 255.

If you want the easy way to know if the car is a genuine V Spec if that is what you are looking for / at check the central MFD. The V secs show 7 readings on the multi reading display. The non V Specs show 5 (don't show exhaust or intake temps).

Have fun.

    • Ah yes but were you responsible? In the time I've had it (just before Christmas) I spun off the track twice and drove into things twice, so four separate incidents.. in two outings. Luckily I have a full OEM GTR front end to put on which is hopefully not a precursor for further, future, more expensive mistakes to come. It is some consolation that anyone who would want to buy my Altia bar would have to paint it anyway, the guards, too. (if they can get over the asymmetry). Hopefully over the weekend I will disassemble and see how badly things are bent. From what it looks like, the headlight has actually just been pushed back and bent the headlight support (which .. somehow... crushed the guard in). I guess the headlight plastic is strong stuff.
    • These things happen And I believe "we, the people, who modify stuff, and actually use it, cannot have nice things" It's just a shame that it happened so soon after paint  I still win the award for quickly destroying newly painted panels I think, as my car came back from the paint shop all nice and shiny, until about 4 hours later when the boot was destroyed by a wayward locker that was blown around by the wind.... What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and poorer.....dooh
    • This. And also, the rotor thickness is constrained by the calipers. Cannot be much thicker, if at all. Cannot be much thinner, if at all. New rotors are....fairly cheap. Turbo calipers can still be picked up for sensible money. Arguably, the best thing is to get R32 calipers and put them on mount spacers on 324mm discs. That's about the cheapest and easiest way to get quite large brakes that are essentially bolt on. And that's despite maintaining for years that the R32 calipers are not the best choice because they seem to be more flexy and creaky than the others. If you were prepared to put up with nasty little NA sliding calipers, these will still seem like Brembos by comparison.
    • A quick Google said 297mm..
    • Why would you not fit the biggest possible brakes?
