Gidday,

A quick search for insurance would've found the following threads:

I am with shannons, mainly because at the time a SAu member was getting great deals on insurance for SAu members.

Have fun reading :P

I had to go through Just Cars as they were the only ones that would cover me. I have never had a car insured before (due to only ever driving bunky's worth $1000 and less ;) ) and I am pretty sure I got a fairly decent deal. I have found them quite nice to deal with too, but I have not made any claims so that may change....

I know 2 people who have made claims with Just Cars and let me tell you right now both claims were NOT handled well............. One was a complete write off and they didnt want to pay for extra things that the owner HAD TOLD them about and was on the policy ............. PM 666DAN and ask him about it if you want to.

I pay $70/mth with agreed value of $30k, Rating 1, with Shannons.

yea im thru just cars too, but heaps of cars get stolen each week around cessnock so i think it has something to do with that, and its under a huge carport, not a garage

my friend bought a R32 gtst was one of the nicest R32's i'd seen and he have lost his license twice had 3 previous claims for crashes and stolen cars, VT's VN's VP's etc...

he got insurance for $1400 thru elders, he thought he was the man, i felt ripped off, but then one day he went blasting thru a give way hit a 4WD and rolled the 4WD which had a small baby inside, this was about 3 weeks after he bought it.

he rang elders the other day looking to insure another R32 he was going to buy, they want to charge him $5500 now... haha

Only problem with shannons is you have to be 25 or older to get insurance with them, which sucks completely.

Now that i am off my P's and over 21 and the fact that i have never had an accident nor had a speeding fine or anything like that of the sort, i thought it would have been easier for me to get full comp insurance.

But clearly it is not the case

i was 21 when i first insured my stag with shannons

im 25 maximum no claim bonus and i pay $1800 with an agreed value of $15,000 through Shannons. registered as a business vehicle... I didnt think it was the most reasonable figure, I also have a perfect driving record and the car is garaged in a pretty good area.

    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
    • Sorry for reviving an old post, but I'm having the same hot idle tick issue. Did anyone ever find out what it was?  I have checked/ replaced Injectors Coils checked Lifter clerance (is at zero) Checked Cam lobes Replaced exhaust gasket and studs Would appreciate any advice this is driving me nuts
    • There's a huge reason manufacturers are tuning in dead flat torque curves... Make them reliable (and more drive able)
