Wow, i want to go out and give this a shot soon, but i think there will be only one outing in him and then i'll be banned :)

i'm not that interested in 1/4 mile times and i dont want to go to a full cage and have to get a licence.

550hpaw close ratio 6 speed and semi's all round should see high 10's or 11's

thanks guys. Some very useful information there. I havent had the car that long so i was just testing different rpm launches and gear changes etc. Going back to calder in 2 weeks after i get a few little goodies put on ;) Then ill see how it goes with some 6K+ hand brake launches.

i ran a 12.47@111mph, catback, hi flow cat & front pipes, apexi pods, mines ecu & os giken twin plate clutch.

What sorta boost are you running ?

hey bud saw you racing on friday, car looks very clean :)

Your running about the same time as i am in my gtst.. I rekon with harder launches and quiker gear changes ull be right :(

Thanks mate. Got it washed at Pit stop in resa. They do a pretty good wash hehe

with my R33 and 600-620 AWHP i ran 1.48 on semi slicks. but from my point of view i say get a good clutch and drop the clutch at 7200, for a consistent launch, remember that youll hit the limiter very soon, so hold your hand on the poke and be ready to shift to second gear. be ready for the torque streerin that wil happen if you do so, and be carfull with your gearbox

how should it be able to manage a 12.9 easily when they are 13 flat from factory? and i have very minimal mods. Also consider it is 16 odd years old so it wouldnt be running the factory times now days. :) but ye u are right i should keep trying because practice makes perfect right :ninja:

because you are not on 1990's tyres

I thought a well kept stock car can manage 12.5 to high 12 stock

reline the car and dump the clutch...wheel spin is your friend

i must just be a bad driver. I should be running flat 10's with a stock gtr that is fitted with new technological advanced 2007 model LING LONG branded tyres lol :D (Not that i get any traction loss even with those tyres anyway :P go 4wd)

Ofcourse there is always room for improvement from practicing but i think i got a decent time without fully raping the drivetrain hehe

I will try one or two redline dumps though, just for fun.

Sorry but the two statements in bold just seem very contradictory hehe i know what you mean though. I use my car as a daily so i dont wana be tooo brutal and break things and be without a car.

It doesn't take much to get from 13--> 12.5. However knock another second off that is really hard :P

It's a skyline anyway... so go and rape it lol

First gear won't break with redline launch and your power. The 3rd gear synchro is fragile so take your time between 2nd-3rd. I think that's what faid is referring to.

  • 3 weeks later...

Went back to calder 2night. Didnt get heaps of runs but ended up with a best of 12.5 @ 108.9 mph.

This time i had turbo back exhaust and pods with boost restrictor out. Was happy with that. Still need to get the 60' down abit.

Heres my problem: Im hitting the rev limiter in 3rd gear just before i cross the line and its loosing me a fair bit of mph i believe. To try and solve this problem i short shifted in 3rd to 4th at about 7000 rpm and couldnt get the mph over 106-107 so that didnt help. If i redline 3rd and shift to 4th then im shifting pretty much as im going over the finish line so im loosing mph there also. What can i do to fix this without say changing the gearing in the diff or gbox?

Its annoying because i could be closer to a low 12 pass if i didnt have this problem! lol

make sure you get urself an ecu mate, dont want the common spun bearing to occur in the 26.

Just out of interest how can you specifically point the finger at the computer to spinning bearings? alot of the gtr's imported are high in fuel and timing is taken out to continue life.

On topic I've just ran 11.9 at 120mph with 2.09 60ft time at 16psi rich as f**k untuned 2530s, the launch is very important I was just driving her out the block.

because its got pretty much nothing to do with it.

anyhow, you can get into the 11's with the stock turbos if you willing to push the car.

Its been done before (well over 4 years ago now) and can be done again if you wanted to

I dont own a gtr and as such I dont have a horse in this race but i have done a bit of 1/4 mile stuff over the years.

If you want to launch hard there are ways to do it and still minimise strain on the drive train. Forget the handbrake. You need to look for second too quick to be friggin around with that. Learn to heel and toe your brake and loud pedal. have the drive train loaded and just hold it against the brake. That way you are not coming off freeplay in the drive train.

When the time comes to launch just move your feet goofy style. left foot goes left off the clutch and right foot goes off the brake and full on the throttle. This way leaves you with one less thing to think about (handbrake) and you are more ready for that quick pop in to second. Works for rwd as well as awd.

Good info FineLine. I have tried a few diff ways off launching and best results in the gtr came from just reving 6000+ rpm and dropping the clutch. I know something will break sooner or later but it gives best results. I'm aiming for an 11 with stock turbos. I know others have done it so i know its possible. Mid 11 perhaps is reachable maybe.

Thanks rb26s13 ill try that. I might extend the redline just abit aswell.

Next things to go on the car: Power fc and boost control kit, cam gears( maybe some cams if the wallet permits) and some good dyno time and i should see an 11 i hope next time out at the track.

Also there was a white r33 gtr at calder last night. Was running pretty quick times in the 11's. Plates were GTR-97. Anyone know him? is he on the forums? Im new on here tho so i dont know many on here yet.

with gtr gearboxes and power, iv heard they dont mix... when drag racing.. A customer of CREATD motorsports has a 10second gtr, has broken a few gtr boxes, OS GIKEN gearsets (3 or so) and is now using a fitzner dog box with a tripple plate clutch..
