Sucked in brocky!!!!!

what a dumb ass only put in half a litre of fuel for a v8 monaro,

someones gotta get fired for that.

Jason whites in a bit of sh1t as well punctured a tire and then missed all the stages up to lunch on the day.

Jimmy is gunna win again.

Wednesdays conditions were so bad Jimmy was only able to drive at 110 kmh on a 500m straight.

11 cars crashed out including the first gtr n1 to go this year,number 817 1997 gtr n1 driven by john Atherton and Ian Young, rolled it on a switch back corner in the wet 3km from the end of the sidling, roof bent to buggery front spoiler smashed and windscreen broken. All repairable and they hope to be able to run tommorrow.

All our hopes rest with Steven Glenney, if anyone can do it he can.

Dont believe the media... or pro drivers for that matter!

PB told his crew waiting on the side of the road he didnt require fuel... They had to run the Monaro that light it required fuel after every Stage!!

Steven Glenney is an outstanding talent! But he has car deficiency. Jason White is a talent, but their high tech trickery and weight saving anticks prevents him giving a good show! (No spare in car??? then having to drive very hard on transport stages not to miss late time.... )

We had a crack at the big T this year. A bog stock GTS-t... I havent checked but think we went OK. The car doing eight laps on the track B4 turning a wheel for the first time in anger at the prologue.

Think there may have been a few 4wds slower in the wet too

And you know the best thing about Targa... the fans, standing in the pissing rain. I Salute them!

I will have to agree (with Martin) it does seem a slightly odd call, he is undoubtably a talent given his previous performances at rally tas 2002 and targa 2002 in a car which was not as developed as his current 33. And in rally tas this year untill problems struck (turbos ????)

But I guess he does not have the backing of an organisation the size of Porsche Cars Australia, hence the deficiency call ???

He still looked to have by far and away the best Nissan in the field as an overall package in all conditions.

Perhaps the michelin pilot sport cups Jim was running may also have not been their best in the conditions over the event making the gap closer!

Was still a BLOODY GOOD effort

Have to agree with martin's comments.

Steve's car looked and sounded a magnificent package but just couldn't keep up the pace with Jim.

After a speak with Barry it sounds that Jim wasn't pushing very hard at all. only on the Mount arrowsmith stage(his favourite of the event). The car was also set up to have an amazing pace in the dry. A big mistake if you look at Tasmanian weather this time of year.

Steve definately had the general plan sorted (to finish first, first you must finish) this certainly applies to targa.It seemed he was just cruising on the first couple of days. The whites were pushing way to hard on day 4, it made for good viewing from a spectator point of view but we all new something had to give.

Great result by a privater to come second behind jim though.

Both of the 33's that I have seen Mr Glenney drive appeared to be well developed, that is without question. I was of the opinion that his current 33 N1, was in a higher state of tune than the black 33 he ran in '02, hence the development call, that was all.

I guess this is the problem you have when you dont get the information from the Horses mouth.

Tuning for all round driveability and torque not outright power in both cases I am guessing.

Were you down here for the event??

Yes Targa was a fun event this year.. barring our mechanical failure we had a Ball. Deans bent the supra nicely(looked a mess at the ferry terminal) :D

Well done to the Beables in the Porsche Turbo great people to talk to in person too, esp after having minor conversation via the forum.

Also Greetings Targa Tom.. I spoke to you and your wife/navigator during scutineering. I was naving in Car 904 the yellow gt3(1 of many).

Will we get so see you back at targa again next year? :D

I must have looked the other way or something- because I was thinking "hmmm dammit, wheres that gts-t". You know most people were pretty slow up there, I've been up that road in a '77 corolla that would have threatened the times of half the field... I guess it was the last stage of the day, and one notorious for accidents, so people were cruising. But its surprising, watching folks jumping on the anchors where you normally pull another gear...normally folks in porsches.....

Anyway, good work, we'll be watching better next year!!

Hello All, I'm new to the forum.

Especially hi to Targa Tom, for it is you who I am most interested in. :) I have had a good read of your website and some of your posts here. Me and my best mate have decided to Race the mighty Targa for 2005, I am so pumped about the decision I can hardly sleep at night because it has been a dream for about 5 years to do it now the means is available I am gonna do it!!

We Have a R33 GTS-t, And a Whole lot of questions for someone who has done the targa, cause I don't really know anybody yet who has done it. Is this the forum for technical questions? there seems to be a few here who have competed??

Anyhow I am enjoying the reading and this seems like the perfect place to get some experience.

one question for starters:

What are the FIA/CAMS requirments for roll cages. Design specs etc, I saw that your (Tom) Roll cage was welded in to the car but somwhere in the GP documentation it says that it can't ad to the stiffness of the car! is that right? I am going to scour the Regs again tonight.

Oh yeah We are entering 2005 Targ at this stage, unlesss we get some sponsors to push it forward or I win the lottery, or the Business takes off suddenly.

Well Just a quick one,

You will find a few guys in this forum who have done TT. Targa was 3rd (i think 99) one year & has been a regular for many years.

gtrken had his Tassy passport revoked for knocking out a heap of trees... LOL

I did most of the preperation myself, but many hands make lite work. You are only eighteens months out so dont waste any time. Download the pdf of the supregs & read read read...

They change from year to year, but changes r pre empted.

Whether for fun or to win, the R33 GTS-T is not a good choice. Why? Cos they are heavy, and have to compete directly against the likes of Glenny etc. The engine capacity times 1.7 turbo factor sees to that...

Read the regs & you'll get to know the event. If you are new to motorsport, I suggest you start now in making sure your experience will satisfy the criteria.

Go to the 2004 event, you will learn much & the trip will pay for itself in what you'll save from **** ups down the track.

Thanks Tom for your reply. I will definately go to the 2004 Targa. I have spent the last week reading the regs over and over again and starting to really see the picture now. How did you go about getting sponsors for the event?

I have answered all the questions I raised in my first post. I guess it is closer to 18 months than 2 years!!!!WOW!

I am sad to hear you say that about the R33 but I don't think I really have a choice at this stage. We'll talk about it though. Also really, as long as it is reasonably "desirable" getting an invite is the main hurdle. I am going for my licence in the next few weeks and then we are going to start developing the car.

How heavy is the R32?

Oh and one more thing, there seems to be a conflict in the documentation I can't seem to resolve regarding the need for a fuel sampling point. which is it?

Did you have a budget? were you worried about not being invited? at this stage that is my main concern....you mentioned that experience counts but apart from that?

Where are good places to go for second hand gear for the car and ourselves? obviously some safety gear should not be second hand but generally speaking.....what motorsport magazines are there.

Of course I would love to hear from 'Targa' and 'GTRKEN' about their experiences.

    • Start with a multimeter, and see if you're getting power at the TPS. There should be a manual for your car somewhere on these forums and it'll have the info for what closed TPS signal voltage is, and how it should sweep to full throttle. Same as for other sensors / valves.   Have you checked things like your base timing etc? See if anything looks amiss there too?

    • Think I found another reason to buy the Q50 rather than the skyline import, seems that unless you get the 400r the other models such as the GT miss out on the decent brakes and don't have the flappy paddles on the steering wheel to change gears. Its my day off work today and the Q50 listed @ the dealer in Brisbane that I mentioned in my 1st post looks like it sold as its listed as no longer available... Would have checked it out but can understand why it sold as it was a bargain price.
    • omfg.... That shopping list game. I'd hoped I'd never see it again.
    • There are fixes for this. In industry we use compressed air for everything. It is frequently wet, and many things cannot tolerate it. So there are various forms of driers available that you can install. The simplest option for something like this would be a dessicant drier. Much cheaper to replace some silica gel than actuator cylinders.
