Missing???

hi all

got a little problem with my car...

when I rev to about 5 grand, it starts lurching....ie. it revs, then splutters, then revs again, then splutters again, kinda like it's missing?

Sort of like the power is cutting in and out?

any idea what this could be? :confused:

It does it in all the gears.

hey shell, I just had a miss problem at about 4k, new plugs and everything is back to normal. I think the high octane fuel (98) fouls the plugs pretty quickly compared to normal.

Yeah I had the same problem.

Changed plug gap sizes and was ok. On closer inspection it appears that my coil packs or getting pretty shagged also.

yer, same problem i was having.. mixtures were all out and it was effecting the firing.

a plug change and proper S-AFC tune fixed up the problem

yeah i thought it might be the plugs...

I have platinum plugs that were put in about 20,000kms ago. She's due for a service, so i'll make sure I get them replaced at the same time.

Shell, I'm pretty sure you should get more kms out of a platinum set approx 100,000kms. Unless your running big boost so I have been told.

Well, mine were platinum too, and they lasted about 15-20K. Like I said, I think Optimax and boost is bad for plugs.

They are rated at 100K life, but I thinks thats for corollas on the shopping run.

Yepp, my money is on the plugs...

Andrew's car was doing that when we turn the boost up a little (only 9psi !!). We ripped them out, cleaned them, re-gapped them and now it good upto about 11-12psi.

Strange that the platnuims only last 10-20,000 km...

optimax aint bad for plugs.

I've ran NGK V groove coppers for the last 30k.

I recently changed them and they were starting to wear away.

Plugs did it for me too Shellster.

Make sure they gap them to the right size too! Out of the box and into the car isn't good enough.

When you replace your plugs check the gap, this depends on how much boost you are running and the climate, i.e plugs fouling up on cold start.

well i only have standard boost, so that can't be causing any problems

um, i have no idea about the gaps, a workshop put them in for me. They deal with Rotaries and all turbo Jap cars so surely they would known to gap them right?

anyway, thanks for all your help, I'll get the plugs replaced (and tell em to make sure the gaps are right!) and see how we go!

Nissan recomend for a stocker the gap is 1.1mm. If your upping boost then 0.8mm is suggested by most mechanincs. As your running stock boost then the plugs most probably need replacing.
