i got a R33 gtst... i thought insurance would be cheaper cuz 1. it aint a import 2. its not turboed.... i find it disturbing dat a NA 4cylinder can beat a 6cylinder turboed car.. :( yea i rekon they are a bit too expensive tho still paying around 30k for 97-00 models... do u rekon a NA supra would be better, perfomance and insurance wise??cuz they sure as hell look better..

hmmm... I doubt you'll be saving much on the insurance.. as its mainly just the power and replacement cost of the car they're concerned about.

My friend pays more for his fairly stock n/a Supra than i do for my modded GTS-T actually.

I've played with a few Type-R's on the road.. no much for a modded skyline (like mine :P ), but with the FWD they'd be nice around corners and things. They look pretty sex inside.

You could put a few mods on like V-AFC (S-AFC type thing for VTEC), pod, exhaust, and it would go pretty nicely.

i used to drive a Type-R quite regualarly. Yes for a N/A they are very quick and fairly good fun to drive - but it didnt really feel much more quicker than an NA Skyline. Have beaten one in the Skyline - sorry. Never been beaten by a Honda yet - it will be a sad day when i do!!

My Buddy with plates RBL 00D has a black type r and i've got a 96 Skyline R33gts25t, when my car was TOTALLY stock a block in a race up to say 110km/h from standstill at the lights i would be slightly ahead of him say his bonnet was reaching my side mirrors, btw this was with 2 ppl in the line and 1 person in the ITR

Then had another run let my friend drive the line and i sat in passenger seat raced the ITR again my line losted 2 car spaces to him.. depends on driver but in the RAIN the ITR's ARE CRAZY!!.

handle like no tomorrow with new eagle F1s heavy rain taking small street turns in 60zones at 40-60 didn't even slip with my gts at 40 i would of lost the tail.. my opinion ITR good handling rough RIDE tho, and noisy engine, fuel consumption even better then his GLI EK CIVIC faster then old 200sx btw.

my 2c

A line should always beat a type R over the 1/4. The type R game is 0 to 100. Type Rs being N/A are easier to get consistant launches and with the old type Rs being good for high 5s in the 0-100 race beware the type R at the lights! No one want to be beaten by a N/A 4! 0-60km/h or 0-100km/h they are a tuff competitor. On the highway though the skyline will eat it without a problem.

yea if u had to go for a type r, i'd say go for the civic. although it lacks the 200cc the integra has, the civic type r is actually faster due to its weight.

after that pop a B18 into it and you'd be smiling. wun be any competition for a turbo, but mighty powerful for an N.A.

The ITR will always be faster than the CTR. With equal drivers that is.

But dropping the B18c into a civic type r will yeild even better results. I'm not even speaking about the DC5/EP3's because we (here in America) don't have the privilege of owning them.

I have an ITR engine in my 99 civic.. and it's great. I don't race it, but I'd like to. It's decently quick. Definetely a powerfull high revving engine. Also, here in America, the insurance on ITR's is insane for most people because it's loved by criminals everywhere.

I'm selling mine for a 240 though. :D I'm tired of FWD.

If I could have a skyline though, I'd take it in a heartbeat. You guys are so lucky.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, FWD hondas are not easy to launch. (for the drag racers) It takes some getting used to. Having an LSD like the ITR/CTR helps BIG TIME. Sticky tires are a must.

And for those even asking about whether the ITR/CTR would keep up in the straights with a skyline, there is no way. It might be close, but the skyline will come out on top.

I've test drove the Integra Type R (DC5), it's not bad. Doesn't look appealing as the DC2 but has much better interior.

My opinion after extensive research for a powerful and cheap N/A sports car would be RX8. Insurance is 10% cheaper then S2000 and 350Z. Car is priced under $60,000 for your tasting. A brand new Integra Type R is (including on road costs) would be $48,000. I highly recommend not buying this vehicle (Honda Accord V6 is better). Infact a DC2 would be your best choice. I believe one of Honda's most perfect created vehicles (the JDM 160kw version of course).

straight line aren't everything, they are just connecting the corner.

DC2 is a lot better than civic, it's a bit tail happy. it's didn't drives like "FWD".

have seen a 2L DC2R run same lap time as a 2530s equiped R32 GTR, both driven by exp. driver, what more i need to say?

I drove one a bit. I admit it was an '03 model so it's supposed to be "slower" than the '00. But by how much? Is it THAT much of a margin to say my feelings are going to be way off.

My feeling is that its a slow car that needs to be wound out to the very top of its top end before it gets moving.

I have raced the same car when the Skyline was stock, from a standing start the ITR was behind quite considerably. By the time he was revving to 900000 rpm or whatever it takes to get one of those things moving i was already in second and leaving him behind.

Well last friday night i rocked up next to a white type r on some street

From the start i had about bonnet and 1/2 on him...before i hit 4th gear and he gave up i was about a bonnet 1/2 in front.

They do hammer for a N/A car.

My mate is sponsered by Raztech who specialise in hondas and turbo kits for htem..i.e one of their customers = blkcrx 400fwkw running 20 pound boost or somfin soon to be 40 pound

they have a few dc2r's with turbo kits custom made for around 8k + tuning....stock output of 197fwkw and you have a definate 11 second car. Absolute animal and the insurance difference is around $200 extra for comp through racv for a 20 year old lol with a turbo kit :)

yeah I ran one too in my line when it was stock... got half a car on him in the launch grabbed second and put another half a car on him... he slowed down almost as soon as I hit second... I reckon he was trying to suss out if I had a turbo or not and when he heard the pshh he just backed off...

that said there a nice lookin car and look to be a lot of fun to drive...

Insurance wouldn't vary much, due to the fact that some companies don't care whether or

not it is turbo or not... the fact that it is a high performance car.

May I suggest a Honda Civic VTiR??

With the money you pay for an ITR you are probably better off to buy just the stock 1800 VTEC (VTIR?) and spend the money on making it quicker. I used to have an Integra Si that had had some mild work done to it and it was a fair bit quicker than a Type R for a lot less then buying one. Not sure about prices in Aussie but I paid $12K for it when the Type R was over $20K.

    • Hey was wondering if you ended up installing the R33 GTR speed sensor - I found one too and wanted to confirm it's a direct swap into the R34 6 speed?
    • After 23 years of owning a Skyline, finally had the latch go.  Followed this guide,  works like a dream again. Great Guide 👍
    • Hi all,   I’ve got the biggest lot of problems with my R33 GTS-T   It was a freshly rebuilt 25th anniversary RB25DET (plastic cas, neo cams) probably 6 years ago now   The engine was running so well but I fkd up badly and trusted someone I’d known for 10 years that was well known around Plazmaman for his welding and fab work. I added a lovely photo of some of his previous work. Not sure why my car was worked on by whoever did this shit     I’m normally someone who would never open myself up to something like this, I still can’t believe I did it. Trusting him literally fkd it all up for me. Everything has been a struggle, like it’s almost been 6 years that’s how much I’ve just on and off been trying to work it all out.    All I wanted was a car that danced down low, like full boost from around 3~3500rpm to redline, don’t really care what power it puts down (if it ever does) but I just wanted it to be quick to get on it.    He recommended the turbo to get, I picked Hypergear but he told me to get the front 4” with a T4 and 0.68 rear housing.    I was expecting all these beautiful welds, tidy fab work and paid for it to be ready to go to a tuner when I got it back.    I got a car back that was an absolute mess, I actually couldn’t believe it was my car anymore. I don’t think you could even call what he did welds, they’re disgusting.    So I stripped everything he touched off it and with every bolt I loosened it just got worse and worse.    I covered it and literally built and finished another car in the meantime but now it’s getting to the point where I really want my Skyline back.   Its a struggle because I paid him to do all this shit because I didn’t know how to and now I’ve had to try and figure it all out omg    Please excuse the bird shit horrible welds, I’ve got my show pony car and am so beyond dealing with this car I don’t even really care at this point.    If someone told me about what he did to my car I wouldn’t have believed them but it happened to me. It was unbelievable. He went missing, my car went missing, it came back missing parts, the straight af chassis rails bore the scars of being dragged up a trailer backwards, even the sandwich plate was bent. Everything was leaking and open to whatever fell into it, rounded off/ missing bolts, power steering oil and coolant everywhere, no gaskets, parts stolen off it, even managed to damage the sump pan.   Promised me he’d finish the car, knew what it meant to me, I paid him thousands and thousands just for him to trash it. He told me he was fully licensed and insured, come to find out he’d cancelled his ABN, so obviously no insurance. I had laid up insurance on the car and would’ve been covered but I was scared they would’ve written it off or because the business was no longer trading I’d still be liable.    He was supposed to:  New fully custom mild steam pipe exhaust manifold with turbo location moved from factory position to high forward mount. (I don’t know if it is a mild steam pipe, I’ve got a funny feeling the waste gate isn’t in a very good position and I don’t think the outlets off each cylinder are equal) 4” custom stainless steel dump with external gate (he re-plumbed it) Cut and shut OEM intake manifold with throttle reposition (I ended up doing the throttle reposition) Box in pod filter (left out) New 100cel catalytic converter (pretty sure it’s there but unsure if it’s 100cel) Front mount intercooler piping fabricated to suit (all smashed up and rusty holes where he was supposed to make it look standard where fmic piping passes through. I don’t even think my front bar is going to fit 🙄) Custom 5” intake pipe from pod to turbo (didn’t come with it so had to do something to make it work with the Z32 afm)   Engine: Full cylinder head service & machining  Brand new valves Precision upgraded spring kit Engine block honed New bearings  New piston rings  New ARP conrod bolt kit New ARP head studs Cometic head gasket VRS kit   ATR43SS2 ball bearing turbo 0.68 rear housing  Turbosmart 45mm external wastegate (got delivered to the fab bloke, I’ve got no idea what spring is in it, I’m assuming the one that came pre installed) Walbro 260 fuel pump  Nismo 740cc injectors (tested to 880) Spitfire coil packs GCG FMIC RB25DET manual 5 speed 4:11 rear diff   I’ve got an Apexi Power FC in it atm, I was hoping to just get it to operating temp to make sure everything was okay before towing to a tuner but it’s over-fuelling too much. I don’t think that’s going to happen so i think I’m going to get either a Link G4 or Haltech for it. What do you guys recommend? I can’t work out the power FC so just gonna give up on that one     It’s got an exhaust leak coming from somewhere I can’t see 🙄    The fuel pressure was steady but now it like drops from 40 to 20psi randomly (noticed this yesterday)    I’ll attach pics of the shit he put on my car and the engine bay now as it sits    I really just need some help, I need a tuner in Sydney I can trust, I’d like to be with the car while it’s being tuned if possible, I know it looks terrible but unfortunately I’ve just got to put up with it for now and fix the cosmetic stuff later   Do you guys think the manifolds are going to be okay? Or do I throw the exhaust manifold and try again?   I don’t even think these combinations are going to work tbh   I know everything I fitted was rated to be able to take at least 400kW but most rated higher    If you’ve gotten this far I really really appreciate it 🙏 I don’t mind if you trash me or the car, I made a rookie error and f**k I’ve paid for it. As you’ll see 🙄
    • From everything I’ve heard you’ll be waiting a long time for  the parts to arrive
    • Have you looked at the workshop manual?
