10psi variance is nothing to worry about. it's normal.

i must say damn it's clean underneath. far cleaner than mine is underneath i'm ashamed to say. very cheap car for what it is.

Yeh thanks baron/otherdudewhosnameisonthepreviouspageandicantbebotheredlookingup, i just verified this with some random guy wandering about and he said 10 psi variance is ok (i'm assuming these things had 145 standardish) on a 15 year old car.. i guess your looking at 20-30 horsepower loss having 15-20psi down on some cylinders, right

I'm assuming it's got the standard oil pump on it? Running standard boost? (no controller)

Only other servicing on it has been fluids? (no timing belts or fuel pumps replaced?)

Also is the front bar on it standard or is that a nismo item?(the two vents)

Did you have the gearbox replaced?

Thanks, i'm pretty interested

10psi is so little as to almost be discounted as operator error. there are a lot of variables that can affect the reading.

1. what type of gauge (screw in, or push in?)

2. what brand of gauge (snap-on vs hop sing for example)

3. who is doing the test (mechanic vs ammatuer)

4. who is reading the numbers off the gauge! bad eyesight could make a difference

5. what is the condition of the cars battery (weak battery can give poorer results)

6. is the engine hot or cold? (cold results will be lower)

7. were they all tested the same way? (same number of revolutions? battery condition good througout all tests?)

from memory the factory spec is for a test at 'operating temp' so if they spec 160psi at operating temp and this test was done cold then it would be spot on factory spec. even still a drop of 10psi from 160-150 you would be hard pressed to notice much (if any) HP difference. the main thing to worry about is variance. in this case it's within spec. the outright number is not so important as it's not so repeatable (for the reasons above). obviously within reason (ie you would be worried if they were all 90psi).

Ok so looks like this thing needs major service done still, but my main question is:

what needs to be done to this car to register it in vic? just need a victorian rwc done or need engineers and compliance again or what?

thanks guys

so, about those interior pics...

Hey Dave, sorry about the wait dude.

The dash in front of the passenger seat is now fitted, because the one then fitted (in the pic) had dried cleaning fluid or something that wouldn't come off. Looks even better now :D

Shifter/handbrake boots were bought new in 2005. Wheel and shifter knob were replaced from a later model GTR. Centre vent was replaced with new item in 2005. The floor mat is a bit messy but it was the only half-decent pic I have right now.

Hey Kieran,

I vaguely remember the rule-of-thumb is comp test results need to be in the 'normal' range (ideally 140-160 for RB26) with no more than 10% difference between highest and lowest reading.

As far as I know, standard oil pump. It was running standard boost until a few months ago when I accidently cut of one of the boost restrictors when I was fitting the oil filter relocator. It has prob driven 500km since then.

Fuel pump/timing belt has not been changed. Visible belts (fan belt etc.) have clear text on them still, which I guess indicates they are fairly recent, but your guess is as good as mine.

Front bar is standard (replaced with new from Mr Nissan during respray) with vents added by the paint shop.

Gearbox is standard, seals replaced in 2005, oil changed too.

Hope that helps dude.

The only thing that would hold up a RWC is the driver's headlight has taken a stone. Good news is that I have the glass to replace it.

OK cool, just figuring out what i'm looking at roadworthied and with a full service (i got my dad to ring you earlier and arrange you to drop it to a beaurepaires store next saturday i believe) i was just finalizing details that i have no doubt he forgot to ask about :D

thanks

  • 4 weeks later...

hey mate,

still interested in the car, still a few weeks off being able to organise some finance though,

if ya get some genuine interest from anyone and such, lemme know and ill organise a deposit or something.

Cheers Dave. I thought I had genuine interest but I'll give it a few more days because I thought we were all sorted. Ben (not benm) if you're out there dude, please shoot back an email or phone.

The car has used a single tank of gas since the start of the year. Oh baby why is this market so slow. I am uber negotiable because I want the old girl to move on to her new home. BUY BUY BUY :) (well that worked for JAS-25T) :D

Price SMASHED to $19000. That's $18999 for all the used car salesmen out there.

Need the debt goneski. This bargain is all inclusive and if sold in the next 15 minutes comes with free tank of 98 octane
