Hey Guys I have a 1990 R32 GTR

It Has Garret GT2860R-5's, No Cat and HKS Superdragger Catback 4", Pods

I am currently making 230RWKW

Currently about to put in

Walboro 285lph Fuel Pump, Turbosmart T-reg Pro, Mines Tuned Rom

I need help with the following ( aka newbie )

1. How much power can the good ol RB26 Handle before i catch a piston ?

2. Apparently this Mines Chip Runs rather large amounts of boost "1.4 bar", is there any way i can find out exactly what it does before putting it in? Can my turbo's e.t.c handle this much boost?

3. What fuel pressure should i be setting my pressure reg to? its rising rate

All help much appreciated :D

Regards

Rob

Now I know why ASH gets all crazy and fired up when he sees these posts. :D

I hope you have all your mods and your supporting modes in place.

Oil pump and water pump have been changed...as well a timing belt and bolts on belt replaced.

You can push up to 2 BAR on a gtr RB26 providing you have a good tune.ie complete with limiter and all the

maintenance under your belt.

OH...your turbos are fine.....but you might hit a snag when it comes to your stock injectors...

Id limit power to around 400rwhp on an old unopened engine. People have made over 500 but why stress it unless you wanna break it

your oil pump doesnt need to be changed. Timing belt yes

i wouldnt run 2 bar on a stock 26 either. Around 20psi would be MY limit

I also wouldnt bother with the walbro pump and instead go with a bosch 044 or nismo straight replacement. Those 2860s will want some fuel and the bigger pumps would be the way to go

get rid of the mines chip....its gonna be no good. (Im assuming) its suited for jap fuel and who knows what turbos. Find a power FC for $800 here on the forums, boost her up and get a tune. You can make 400rwhp without stressing the motor too much with massive boost levels with the -5s. (less than 20psi)

And yes, the turbos can handle 1.4 bar

sell the fuel reg and put the money towards the new computer. Your fuel system will be fine without it

Perhaps for some peace of mind, you might want to upgrade injectors to 700cc

Have a look at the sticky section of this forum with 26 dyno results and theyll show you what you can achieve on an unopened motor and with your turbos

Awsome Mate thanks for your help!

Injectors and the new computer is on the way the mines was just for the mean time until i get enough cashish to splurge

Oh maybe iv got the Lph wrong on that pump then cause in the manual it states 700Hp+ ?

Well another thing was i am going to do the head gasket soon just to see if i have forged bottom end because i have three mates all with GTR's and they are all stock as a rock and the milage varies most higher one lower, they all use oil just a little every couple of weeks, ...... mine doesn't, and my one of the tuners down here thinks it may have forged bottom end cause when its first started in the morning it has like a kind of barley audible rattle but only for like the first couple of secs, and then nothing, apparently this is because the rings or pistons expand and contract being non standard ? is this true?

no probs mate

and to answer a question in your last post, yes that can be true in regards to forgies but could also be due to no oil being in the head immediately after start up and after a couple of secs the oil pump has done its job by pumping some oil in there

i dont think a couple of secs of ignition is enough to heat up the pistons sufficiently to the point where they expand so the noise, i think, is oil related.

    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
