Yea. But basically i think i am going to need to take the car to get checked so i can get the rego changed to qld. so doesnt that mean i would need all the mods approved and have a mod plate?

Plus it doesnt have a cat cause it got melted so i had to knock it out but it still looks like one is fitted! Might have to get a new one!

Basically all i am worried about it when you open the bonnet there is a big turbo on a topmount staring at you. Is this aloud?

Sorry for all the dumb questions!

Cheers

correct me if I am wrong but I believe for rego purposes, you will only require a roadworthy done. QLD transport doesn't look at your mod list?

Its only when you get stopped at a defect station you will need to start praying. First on that list would be to get a new CAT! After you have registered the car in QLD then proceed to find an engineer to mod plate it so you are covered.

basically just make sure your pod is secured and pray the cops dont hear your bov, you may be more or less fine

but if you go to hoon 'scene' spots like milton and it gets raided and you end up on the defect station, you'd best be praying that the DoT miss the fact it isn't street legal

.. at least i doubt it is =P

ive been pulled up a few times, cops have never asked to pop the bonnet

if you hang out at hoon spots, expect them to

its a shame, but its also why i avoid cruises

just dont want the trouble

I'm in the same boat as you but I got done doing 60 in a 70 zone on a Sunday arvo coming back from Woolies - spoke to the cop and he was pulling over any vehicle fitted with a shiney intercooler - got defected. The way cops discriminate against Jap imports is unfair - I bet if I was driving a 700HP blown VS Commodore they wouldn;t have looked twice at me...

i got pulled over for a 'random inspection' about 2 weeks after i got my line. 'pop the hood please mate'. Cop was cool about it tho. Didnt even mention the front mount... just warned me that a some cops would give me grief about it. chatted to him for 10 min cause he owned a 300zx twin turbo about 5 year back :)

with that list of mods, its only a question of time until you get done.. some of us get defected when our cars are LEGAL let alone when they arent  Plum back your BOV for starters and you might escape detection..

come on man its queensland, compaired to syd its a walk in the park

but if you draw attention you are going to get it, so dont drive stupid in the areas were cops are likely to hang out.

and with the engine mods just find a dodgy mechanic and give him a bit on the side you will be laughing

2 things jump out right away for me:

Custom Front/ Dump/ Screamer Pipe

Catco Straight through Cat

if u get caught with the screamer, u'll be ordered to plumb it back in, and with that 'hi flow' cat ur gonna get ass reamed if u get caught.

just dont drive it at full noise on the street in populated spots and u should be fine.

also ride height, no part of the car can be lower than 100mm off the ground

another thing, u dont need to worry about emissions, caus they dont test it in qld, but they do test noise levels every so often

oh and for rego in qld, u'll have to get a road worthy, AND u'll have to pay stamp duty, again :)

Really? Things may have changed but my flatmate in 2004 was tested by QLD Transport when his old Meteor was sounding very, very sick. They stuck a sensor up his tailpipe and measured the CO2 level... didn't realise most of the exhaust was emitted between the back of the engine and front pipe...

You need mod plates for many of the above mod's. Check the www.transport.qld.gov.au website for details of it, they list almost every mod that requires a mod plate. Well worth the effort and saves you getting fined (most of the time). Also screamer pipes that are atmo venting you'll get done dry, same with a straight through exhausts...but lets be honest, who with a tough car really has a cat and a plumbed back screamer pipe....don't be soft. :(

Looks like much the same stuff as my car has...

edit: In fact 95% of that list is in my car... Pretty much everything apart from the exteria bits is one for one...

Welcome to the highlly modified R33 GTS-T club...

Shame you could not make the highlly modified Yellow R33 GTS-T club...

Up here its only the roadworthy guy who actually looks at the car, Qld transport may want to see the vin numbers and such but dont seem to give a dam whats been done to it, mine had the 3" zoorst, pod, atmo BOV, and she didnt even blink at them. Find a "good" mechanic and your sweet except for the random cops.

Get a racing cat... one of those 4" jobs. Not only is it illegal but it's bad everybody.

Get a proper dump pipe, not a screamer, you'll get booked so bad and anybody doing a safety cert will fail you right away.

Atmo BOV doesn't mean anything, just attracts more attention.

Finally, get a mod plate for things like the top mount turbo etc... (check with engineer which mods need a plate), otherwise when you crash nobody will cover you for damage (comp 3rd party included).

    • Reasonably hard, although I haven't run it with the new Endless setup yet. The old brakes were F50's on 335mm rotors and the car did a 1:40.6 at Phillip Island which is a reasonable time, I'm seeing high 600s on the temperature paint. A guy I know ran the Endless fluid at WTAC without issues and he was doing 1:33's I think (Evo) with a 355/332 setup. I don't get out to the track as much as I'd like but we put the car on the hoist and spanner check every bolt and re-paint mark everything, bleed the brakes, change the fuel, check the coolant system and re-bleed blah blah blah before every event. Motorsport is expensive, RB's are expensive so a couple of hours before an event is time well spent. It's also a net time saving because if you can keep your RB from self destructing it saves you time in the long term!
    • Welcome Alice......hope you have a bit more luck from here on! What was done in the build?
    • Hello! I'm new here, I have an R33 GTST that is currently being finished up! Last year was pretty rough, blew two stock turbos so I decided to build the car. Has been down since November, but I get it back next weekend!
    • Hello, I believe my car was imported to America in the 2000s by Kaizo Industries. Would anyone be able to help me find more info on them? I've only found all the basic stuff like that paul walker bnr34, them being shutdown by feds, just stuff like that. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!
    • I am using Motec M150.  I am not working on the car myself actually.  My workshop is giving all these info, they are quite reputable in the industry and are very familiar with Motec and RBs and have done a few big setups with VCam and single turbo on RBs.  In fact, they built and tuned my engine from day one.  But they are stumped with my engine at the moment and cannot work out how come the compression is so low with the VCam. They told me that they have now swapped in some Kelford cams (without the VCam) and can achieve around 130psi compression and the low end torque is better, but now the engine is doughy as.  It boosts and peaks at more than 1000rpm slower, with twin HKS GTIII RS, it doesn't get full boost until over 5000rpm. I have always thought the VCam was a bit disappointing at the low rpm. To a point I had to ride the clutch a fair bit to get up a small hill from stand still.  That was when I had a clutch.  Now changing to a 8HP, I don't have that luxury and this problem has become a major issue. I am beginning to think the VCam never work since the day it was installed.  Maybe it was just sitting at the most advanced point, that is why it went good at top end but very ordinary at the bottom.  Therefore, with the help of the Holinger 6 speed and paddle shift, as long as it was moving, it drove pretty good.
