Hi Guys,

Just wondering is it a good Idea to use Nulon Petrol Injector Cleaner (Add to the petrol tank) ? im bit sacred that it might harm the engine or something like that. I will use anything on my old toyota corolla but for my skyline r33 gts4 (Rb25DE) have to be carefull. If this stuff harm any part of the car smply I wont use it, just need to know...any feedback?

By the way my car is consuming lot of fuel so im in the process of changing the o2 sensor, cant find the correct one for RB25DE non turbo model:(, thinking if this Nulon Petrol Injector Cleaner is safe it might improve the fuel eficiany a bit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers

shouldnt harm the engine i wouldnt think

I found form experiance that REDLINE SI-1 Fuel Cleaner is the BEST. It is sooo good it cleaned some of the carbon build up from the top of my cylinders.

$26 at Bursons, it is a heat activated agent, really does work well.

I used it in my R33 when i used to get slight flat spots and worked a treat... just reset your ECU when you fill it with premium fuel... i was getting 400kms to a tank in my R33 (nanny shifting) and now getting 700kms to a tank in my N16 Plsar Q lol

The Injector cleaner won't do anything that a lot of high-octane fuels won't. A lot of fuels these days carry detergent to clean up your injectors etc, while the engine is running. I can't imagine it would do harm though, so if you want to spend the money then do so. Personally I wouldn't bother.

You are right to question the safety of this product. I have lost count of the number of people who have had pistons melt as a result of adding Nulon Petrol Injector Cleaner to their fuel.

I used it once with an RB25DET Neo, no effect.

A few occasions with an RB30E I noticed an ever so slight improvement in response, but no effect on power or economy.

So I've come to the conclusion that the RB30 being 250,000-odd kms old had dirty injectors.

The RB25 being 50,000km old was nice and fresh and was always run with decent fuel, thus it didn't need injector cleaner run through it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm under the impression that the way the injector cleaner works is that it alters characteristics of the fuel which causes it to burn hotter, which in turn burns away some of the crap off your injectors, thus cleaning them. So if all you're doing is cleaning off the little deposits of crap on them, then you wouldn't really get much if any noticeable change. If your injectors are really dirty or blocked then the only way to clean them up to remove the injectors and have them properly cleaned.

Whatever your situation, I seriously doubt it's going to give you any more starting line oomph in the traffic light GP :P

The injector is not exposed to the flame, so, yes, consider yourself corrected.

The principle of the injector cleaner is to dissolve bits of resin and crap off the needle of the injector, so that the spray pattern isn't disrupted. And so that the injector always closes completely, preventing excess fuel leaking into the cylinder. Unfortunately it's not always successful. It usually works best in maintaining the injectors after an ultrasonic clean.

oooooooh really, I just add this stuff this morning and filled with Shell V power full tank. Are you serious, pistons get melt becasue of this stuff? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,But how does this possible?

Thanks a alot for your replys gusy, let you know if I see any diff. So far no different yet as you guys already mentioned.

i have used it before

no problems whatsoever with the driving characteristics

i acutally used it quite concentrated once and i could feel my idle smooth out ever so slightly. palcebo effect? maybe. but i thought it was significant.

but when it was in my tank i drove very sedately, given i wasn't sure how it would change the characteristics of the fuel and how it burns etc.

  • 2 weeks later...

the only time iv seen injector cleaner work was in my dads taxi lol, he drives it on LPG alot and after a while his injectors became very dirty and when he drove on petrol it would run like shit, a bottle of injector cleaner in a full tank fixed everything :)
