Hey Guys,

I have just bought my R33 RB25DET about 3 weeks ago and I want to put a front mount on there. I found a nice one that i want to put on there but i am not sure about the size becuase i heard too much air flow will cause my turbo to lag / take longer to spool.

My question is do you think it will be ok as the Core size is 4'' and the outlets are 4''. My car is stock, only mods are B.O.V, HKS air filter and 4.5'' catback exhaust.

Any help i can get on this topic will be much apperciated!!

Thanks guys!

the outlets are not the issue when it comes to lag, its the overall size.

i wouldnt go for a cooler with 4" outlets simply cause your piping is 2.5" and you may have a hard time finding a reducer or if u do it maybe to expensive.

do you have pics and measurements?

I HIGHLY doubt you have a 4.5 inch cat back exhaust on your car for a start, and I would also say that the outlets on the intercooler you are looking at are not 4 inch either.

Any of the typical 600 x 300 x 76mm etc Intercoolers available from traders on this forum will suit your requirements and no you will not end up with lag or turbine spool issues as a result.

For sure just go with an off the shelf kit for your car, JustJap and CRD have some good ones really cheap. Something around 600x300x75 would probably be what you want, not overly huge but gives you a bit of room to move if you upgrade the snail later.

Eg; JustJap:

sure about 4.5" exhaust? i know mine is 4.5 at the tip, but thats the tip. rest is 3 which is usual for after market.

i agree about not getting a 4" inlet and out let, would be no point and cost you more. the rest of your piping is 2.5 so even if the converter from 4-2.5 was free, there would still be no gain from having it. would need all the piping to be 4" for there to be any chance of improvement, minimal at best.

the ones from just jap are good, im running one at the moment. was a bit of a tight fit with my front bar, but its do-able and they do help on hot days, and making things a little smother.

as for turbo lag, if there was any more than usual, cant notice it at all. spools fine no extra lag.

just jap, way to go, but just keep in mind that if you are putting it in your self, the kit doesnt include the red pipe/tube and T piece pictured. so you'll need to buy a T piece and rubber tubing as well. goes from the boost controler to the inlet pipe btw.
