RE55s were way too quick imo - I only got around 1500km from them before they needed replacing

Advan are ok, but they flat spot really easy

RE540s were ok, but now they are no longer

Toyo R888 seem pretty good, but I am not sure about how long they last

Toyo RA-1 are also very good, but dont live forever

Federal 595RS probably the best I have tried so far, dont have quite the grip levels of the Toyo or RE55s, but last ALOT longer - have done around 15,000km now, including some several hard high speed track work and they are still going strong. As one of the cheapest around, I reckon you cant go past them. The sidewalls are a bit softer than other Rcomps I have used, but nothing so bad as it has caused issues

Federal FTW imo.

I use the Bridgestones (SR) and they do work very well.

I am in the middle of working a deal that will see me on a set of Yokys. Ill let you know how good they are.

The Federals are a good sticky street tyre, but as used on our other car our times around the MC courses has dropped 2 seconds.

If you want Toyo's go to Bayswater Tyres. It's in, um, Bayswater. 22 Embleton Ave. Phone 9371 9988. They should be able to give you a price on Bridgies also, just not quite as nice as the one they can manage on Toyo's.

If you want Khana action the Toyo will be better suited than the RE55 IMHO.

Also, Federals are gay so tell all your mates to use them. Same for Falkens.

other than costs is there any reason not to got 18's for track work. Run 18 inch rims and street tyres am considering getting another set for use as track day tyres an running some decent tyres looking at most of the tyres mentioned above as possibilitys.

Well looking at this here price list for RA1's & R888.

255/40/17 cost $425 & $436 respectively.

255/35/18 cost $548 & are only available for 888's.

So um, $450 per set is a fairly persuasive argument...

Given you don't get any gain from the extra inch rim unless you are running large brakes, there isn't much of an up side.

As to Keefy: The RT615 manages to combine the downsides of running R compounds (Rough ride, tramlining, noise) but misses out on the grip levels that a proper R compound can deliver. For one I have never seen a track car here in WA running the Falkens. Overwhelmingly people here run RE55's (Cheaper in the larger sizes than the Toyo's). You will see kharna cars & the small fry using Toyos moreso than Bridgies. You rarely see Dunlop/Yokohama/Michelin/Pirelli. I think this is a price issue as much as anything.

Falken RT615 pwns the street legal tyres. 2nd runner up advan nova ad07. Well.. I'm my books that is.

haha. c'mon mate. they have a treadwear rating of 200 (or was it 240, i'm a bit hazy). R-comound tyres like A048, RE55 etc have a rating between about 40 and 60. see if that gives you a hint. RT615s are ROAD TYRES, that happen to have a construction like a track tyre, but the rubber of a road tyre. AD07s are road tyres too... Have you got either of those? or ever owned either of them?

    • How do you go about diagnosing ecu's that don't have data logging, is it more experience at that point and just trying out things that you think will fix the issue?
    • Stock O2 are basically useless beyond anything at stoich. Any misfire will also be seen as lean. The stock O2 also read a collective exhaust gas volume, not each cylinder. Sputtering and missing means not each cycle is firing, and some are. Which means even if rich, as shit, on cylinders as they miss, they'll read lean, but the cylinders that did fire will read rich, and combined, well, they can read anything from rich to lean.   Start with the basics before even going looking at sensor values.   Edit: I say the above, and that's coming from the guy with a few thousand dollars worth of scan tools sitting right beside me right now that I use frequently for my job.
    • I just finished up a manual swap and I have a 1999 S2 AWD automatic in my garage, depending on where you are located. I'm in the the midwest of the US.
    • I’ve heard it can be done, you need to redrill the holes where they bolt to the chassis and apart from that they are the same. I’ve never done it or know anyone personally that has, it’s just something I’ve heard 
    • If it's reading full rich prior to a misfire that gives one directional hint, if it's already reading lean, etc. If it's reading pretty cleanly stoichiometric then suddenly drops out from a misfire that suggests it's not air mass estimation that's the problem. Could be ignition, could be something more subtle. Could be the CAS has decided to start dropping out at random or the drive pin is worn leading to excessive lash and trigger errors. LTFT can tell you the same but it's slower to react and if this is a recent issue it might not have stabilized. STFT stuck in one direction vs fluctuating back and forth can be used instead but I like to read O2 voltages anyways and interpret directly. If the O2 voltages make no sense in general or are super slow to react it could also be a failing O2 sensor. There's no real error correction for failing O2 sensors in these cars.
