A while back I created the following thread -

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=130753

This was a list of wreckers, tuners, workshops, etc etc.

Clearly before this thread was created a few of us were sick of seeing new threads being posted up asking "where can i go to get this, etc etc".

Since I created this thread which I was keeping up to date with people posting up the contact details, threads were no longer being created probably because more so the thread was also a sticky which people saw straight away and didnt need to use the search function.

Since this thread was closed and have been unable to keep it up to date, etc threads have been created left, right and centre.

All seriousness, threads like what i created -

http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=130753

stopped threads being made askin where can i go for this, where can i go to get this done, etc etc.

The reason behind the thread being closed was "because it was advertising businesses on a forum".

Ok, fair enough I see that side but if someone creates a thread asking "where can i go to get this, etc", either way that itself with a response from someone "call alljap at slacks creek on this number" is also advertising them.

No offence here hey. But its a skyline forum, Id say a good 70% or so of members have rb25s, what do you expect to come up? Its a big forum! You need to search more specifically. Say just in the 'forced induction section' then say you want information on FMIC then you just search that. Then you want some information on turbos, just search that.

All I can say is you be a mod for a while. Each forum has their rules set, and the mods should follow them with a bit of discresion, which I think is shown on this forum.

Then there is say a boostcruising, which constantly gets bagged out. Why???

You should have used the search function properly then. Had you of searched in forced induction and been more specific you would have gotten better results. That search shouldn't reveal anything in QLD anyway as "modding an rb25" as nothing to do with QLD. That search and what would end up in a thread is a prime example of something that shouldn't be posted in QLD general.

And noobs are supposed to know all this? I think not. The average noob will come along proud as punch of his new line and ask how to mod it. He or she doesnt generally ask the compression rate of the valve spring on the exhaust side of no# 3 cylinder on an rb25.

thats why they should use their noggens and think about what they actually want to ask i.e what turbo should i get? what exhaust etc etc and then go use the search function (like omg im going to die now lolz)

If the Ask "how do I modify a skyline" all they will get is a bunch of crap anyway as everyone has a different opinion

The thing that makes these threads pointless is that the questions have no focus

I welcome new people but I am also not here to hold their freaking hand

Guess how I learned what I know? I searched and read the forum extensively for about 6 months before I even made a post, from this I not only learned about the cars I also learned who the right people were to ask questions of If I wanted more information

I agree with what the mods are trying to do, somewhat. However; if you eliminate 100% of all the non-related skyline topics or topics regarding to Queensland (define Queensland topics) we have nowhere to post it.

Mod the whoretown thread better, so we can ask general questions in there..

Completely useless n00b threads I understand, but what’s the line where we could cross? My looking to rent thread? Anna’s looking to work thread? I want to see the QLD general thread posting criteria written down.

The search function is also shit, it picks up keywords in threads of no relance, and we need more then a 3-letter limit.

Firstlly stop fighting each other, none of you are getting anywhere...

Mud created this thread to try and curve the wasted bandwidth and the work for the mods, the topic quality has gone backwards over the year and yes the mods today are far easier to work with and let allot of stuf just fly. However in saying that this topic was to point out that heavier moderator will be making a come back.

Posting rules, well they are pretty simple...

If its to do with qld in any way shape of form then post it in here, simple...

So topics of fish experts in the area is ok, however topics like "what turbo should I buy" belong in the FIP part of the forum.

Unless you were asking who could install a turbo in qld, in this case that would be great.

As for costs, yes it costs me time. Every moderator spends on average 3 to 4 hours a day on here.

I have also donated to the forums out of my pocket to see it keep going stong. Christians personal expense is in the tens of thousands and I love to help him and support him where ever i can as he is a top bloke. So if binning a few needless threads helps, then in the bin they go.

However in saying that, dont feel like you canot post in the qld section. By all means please do i encourage you all to take an active part and I enjoy reading your stuff. This is a fourm after all and as a forum its open for discussion, let it never be said that we would silence an opinion.

Please use common sence, some people seem to lack common sence sometimes hence why there are moderators.

Please think about what you want to post and think to yourself is this the right area??? If so then post away, if a topic gets moved it does not mean we hate you. We are simplly doing our job.

And Mud, you're an idiot for leaving this open. It should have been a CLOSED thread from the start

I asked Mud to open it, so users could ask questions, as this is a forum im all for hearing two sides to a story.

Please also remember this is a forum, and as a forum you will recieve differences of opinion. Its the ability to post a view on a topic that makes it a forum.

With out the users differences of opinion we would all be robots following the same path.

Forum = sanity

The reason behind the thread being closed was "because it was advertising businesses on a forum".

Incorrect, complaints closed your thread. To which that was one of them. In the past a moderator would not offer you an explination to a thread closure, they would simplly close it and if you complained in the public forum you would be banned, if you continued you would be banned. I have to aggree it was simpler back then, however Mud, Squizz, Revhead and I all believe in the forum community in sharing their opinions. Like many other threads that get closed from any user not just you.

Generally threads are closed due to complaints not the moderators being mean. As I also said to you in the past which to seem to always forget, its only closed not moved to the bin, so you can refer as many people as you want to the thread for reference. If the mods were so against you we would have deleted it for good.

Anyway back to it, this thread is not a place for you to beat each other up. Its here to help, dont abuse our kindness in leaving this thread open for discussion. A hard arse moderator would just keep closing threads and moving topics with no explination. Im all for education, if a user makes the same mistake many times. I take it apon myself to help point them in the right direction. Ive been here long enough to know where everything is, and i recieve 5-10 pm's a day for assistance. Please pm me if you have a curlly one, i dont mind at all.

Cheers Col

No, but Im sure they will let you in to use the loo.

BTW, we arent just picking on you. But so many people 'search' which normally means a 30second look oh thats too hard I'll just ask what turbo should I get. And thats the WHOLE question.

In 6 months time you will be sick of some of the threads that constantly keep popping up. And in 12 you will probably be picking on them too.

Incorrect, complaints closed your thread. Like many other threads that get closed from any user not just you.

Generally threads are closed due to complaints not the moderators being mean.

As a result of closing the thread though, its allowed everyone to now open more then just this 1 thread that helped everyone which has resulted in this thread shit fightin against everyone.

All seriousness, maybe a thread needs to be created and stickied such as mine as well as others like the one mud has created for noobs to introduce themselves.

We can probably all sit here all night and fight about what is and whats not right either way, difference of opinion will always be in the way and no matter what way everyone may look at it, we are probably all right to a certain degree.

True, thats what I mean by when Im talking about forums, their all about differences of opinions...

Without this it would be as boring as a plain old instructional website...

Yes, also true however it does not cause any trouble within the community...

Also I might add that any sponcers would have no traction in complaining in the general QLD section unless they were forum sponcers.

As club sponcers and fourm sponcers/business traders are two different things...

'No conflict' is right at the top of my list, as long as most people are happy then im happy...

Yes being a mod, you seen to be the bad guy however its always in the best intrests of the users...

If it were a 50/50 matter or even if there were doubt another moderator would be involved to help give a clear unbias rulling...

I see now how threads spiral out of control. I have not posted with any animosity toward anyone on this forum, yet i see the words fight etc being bandied around. Shit if all you want is fight I am your huckleberry but until that time i see this as a darn good discussion on what are obviously issues that have been gnawing at people in both camps for some time.

I do note that to date nobody has come up with a clearly defined set of posting rules as to what is acceptable where as yet and, Until they do i assume we are going to see the noobs and others either told to go search or have their threads banned, closed, or merged.

I also note that most on here debating this with me are doing so for selfish reasons only e.g. It shits me when noobs keep asking the same question"

I will say it one more time only. (hears the collective sigh of relief) Be patient with the noobs. they go on to be old schoolers if treated correctly. As for me becoming impatient with them myself over time. To that I say, You obviously dont know me.

Yeah not worries Noel...

In short if its to do with Queensland then post it in Queensland... Thats it, thats all the guidelines you need...

(As stated above also mate :P)

Apart from the usuall guidelines that cover the whole forums, you base your threads to the section that is most revelent...

Does this make sence???

PS> Ill never allow noob bashing... Never have and never will...

Yes, also true however it does not cause any trouble within the community...

That being the case, then those who ask 'where can i go to get this' or 'where can i get this done', etc would also be a result in advertising businesses which in turn deters people away from club/forum sponsors.

its much of a much really where removin a thread of mine based on complaints and advertising would also result in those advertising 'non forum/club sponsors' threads/post as well.

So don't weigh bandwidth usage to heavily in the arguments.

Never do...

All threads are good threads, its just a case of weather they are in the right section or not...

thanks col for clearing some of that up....

makes a little more sense now....

No worries, thats what I had in mind for this thread when I asked Mud to open it back up...

But it got a little out of control, im all for venting tho so i dont mind...
