The problem isn't the pod, but the fact that there is 2 intake mods...i.e a pod is fine (so long as its not an oiled element IIRC), and a front mount on a car that didn't come from the factory with one is fine, but a pod and a fmic isn't...

If you were to put a pod on an Evo 8 for example, it's only 1 intake mod (as they have a front mount standard) and is therefor legal

Its illegal.

Read the EPA thread, which just so happens to be s sticky thread aswell.

Surprise :sorcerer:

So end of the day, if you do get a RWC, you could be put off the road as soon as you leave VicRoads

andru has organised a roadworthy, a legit one, we've (me and andrew) have asked the guy if a custom airbox will be legit and he told us it would be, as long as its boxed up.

In the end I have found that whats legal and what they will clear are two different things. The fact remains that 2 intake mods are illegal and even if it gets cleared this time, any TMU cop who picks andru up next time will defect him for the exact same thing. In saying that I suggest you try Burwood VicRoads  to get the defect cleared, they are.................sympathetic. Particularly around closing time on a Friday.

Good Luck

that last comment pretty much sums up whats going on here.

you ignore the information given to you.

Actually no, you said you wanted one to clear a defect. You cant actually clear a defect with one... which is what people are trying to inform you.

But as usual, your more interested in spamming posts and not reading

couldnt have made it any clearer.

Okay. how about i do you a deal then.

I'll just ban you. Then we never have to see another muppet thread of yours again?

lol

that would be good.

Jesus titty f**king.

Regardless of anDru being a retarded git pull your f**king heads in. You know it will pass even if it's not technically legal. He actually asked a pretty simple question which only required a simple answer, nothing more. I am so sick of people jumping on their high horse and pointing out useless bullshit when they know for a fact their own cars have umpteen illegal modifications.

Why aren't you all posting up a storm in every thread that mentions illegal modifications? Where's your righteous fury in the cosmetic mods section? The business traders section? Just STFU.

Cutting the back out of the snorkal - modification

Different Intercooler - modification

Different pipes - modification

Redirecting pipes - modification

Non-paper filter - modification

See the problem? Technically any of the popular FMIC kits are not legal and yet SHOCK f**kING HORROR will pass roadworthy.

The above are actually legal. Save for an oiled filted which is also clearly listed as unapproved. (only one ive removed was chopping a snorkel)

The only issues listed are the I/C & Pod in combination. The piping is not flagged as an issue, nor is a panel filter so long as its not oil.

So all of whats listed up there is actually 100% legal in the eyes of VicRoads & the EPA, so in actual fact, its not problem at all.

Thats all "technically" speaking of course, seeing as though you wanna get into technicallities.

Make sure you do your homework kiddies

(a) Open element or pod type air cleaners on

carburetted vehicles are not permitted.

(b) Dry element pod type air cleaners are

permitted on EFI vehicles. Oiled, oil-soaked or

fluid-treated elements are not permitted. Any

sensors integral to the original system must

be retrofitted to the same approximate

location.

© Intercoolers that are larger than standard or

have a different mounting location or are

added where none were originally fitted, are

permitted only if no other changes to the

intake system have been made. In other

words, you may have a pod filter or

modified/added intercooler, but not both.

Any sensors integral to the original intercooler

or intake system must be retrofitted and be in

the correct location.

Note: aftermarket turbocharging kits that

include intercoolers that have been type

tested (ADR certified) for the model vehicle

are permitted. Documentary proof must be

retained to substantiate this.

(d) Airflow meters must not be disconnected.

They may be relocated, provided they are

functionally equivalent and are in the same

approximate location.

(e) Modified or aftermarket plenum chambers or

throttle bodies are not permitted.

Grey enough to get a roadworthy and a defect. It definately does not give the all clear for any intercooler set-up as long as you don't have a pod. I think their use of 'pod' was misplaced and should have been 'Open element'.

Anyone with some common sense would say that and also mean it in real life off the forums as well. :)

    • People still have Skylines? I thought they're non-existent now.
    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
    • They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.
    • I don't post on here and have been lurking for some time now. Many of the topics have helped me out more times than i can count. I was racing yesterday (11/9) and blew a front right CV shaft. I have spares so I popped a new one in. A thread i read previously said to check the engine mounts if you blow a front CV. Upon inspection, the front right mount was completely separated from the upper plate. This discovery saved me time and money, because i would have blown another CV if i went back out. Just wanted to thank you guys and wish everyone luck with with their builds. (Now if we could only come up with a solution for my power steering belt flying off after hitting the rev limiter, lol)
