As the title suggests, I just ordered some rims and went to fit onto car and they dont clear the brake calipers.

The guy suggested machining the calipers, so that the word "Nissan" disappears cause that is the bit that the rims hits....

Anyone had similar problems? How you get around it? Any help much appreciated

Do people just use spacers despite the fact that they are illegal? (well in VIC at least)

tell the idiot that to said to machine your brakes to get f*ked and just tell him to get spacer blocks put in. they will be cheaper and not destroy the calipers for further sale if need be.

check the F/S section on sau, u can get full sets for like $60 for 5-10mm spacers of just get him to oredr some in

Have similar problem. My car arrived from Japan with the current rims. Car has bolt on spacers to pass the calipers...These rims were made for GTR dimensions lol

In my opinion, i'd go the spacers instead of chopping up calipers or rims.

its all good until something like this happens :domokun: Then who are you gonna blame?

really? wow....and can i see the part where it says "this is wat happens wen u shave 3 mill from a small part of an alloy wheel"?

i got about 3 mill shaved off the inside of my rims. only a small section where the callipers were hitting. this was recomended by Bob jane, they send it to a specialist.

now bob jane are freggin anal with law...u really think they are gona comprimise the safety of a customer to make a sale???

Not sure which Bob Jane you went to, every store is owned by a different owner. I went to a BJ store in Qld with your exact problem. Asked about spacers, shaving this and that off...they didn't want to know about it, didn't even want to touch the wheel. told me its the wrong wheel offset go find the correct one.

Thats the advice I'm giving. Don't come on here asking questions you already have the answers for. If you want to shave 3-4mil off ur wheel please go ahead.

That was not my post, 32line said that stuff.

I can appreciate what you are saying, and will take your advice into consideration. The rims in question I really want so I want to consider the options because there are no other rims I like. I cant believe how many hideos rim designs there are in the market and soo few nice ones. The spokes of the rims are very thick (hence the problem) and taking a few mill out of a tiny section of each rim should not compromise its rigidity.... imo

lol, thats ok, easy mistake to make, there is only one letter of difference in our niknames...

Im thinking maybe spacers are the safest option, cause id only need 4mill spacers. I will look into it further, its just these rims i have wanted for sooo long, there are no rims similar! Spending that much money, I don't want to compromise.

Yeah trust me, I've been there before..fell in love with a set of wheels, spent many weeks searching on yahoo auctions for it, finally found it, took me more than 9 weeks to get it here..then found out it didn't clear calipers, tried slip on spacers..dodgy..had custom made bolt on spacers...made my wheels vibrate at high speeds...in the end gave up and sold the wheels and bought ones that fitted nicely...

I think the best thing to do,

who ever U ordered ur rims with, sent them back cause he give U the wrong wheels!! he should give U the right wheels with the right offset mate.

just my 2cent

Ford

The rims come in one offset only, and one width only. They are the only 18" rim in that style. The rims can be sent back if I dont want them, but I would then have to find another rim... I have looked around and there are none I like.

I just spoke to my mate, he was saying that machining 3 mill off the caliper would have no effect on the brakes which is obvious, the rims are still preserved and there are no illegal spacers. Doing this also allow for more rims with a similar problem to fit my car if someone I sell the car to wants to change them....

So it only means loosing the "Nissan" from the caliper (or most of it), which is no big deal... it seems the most logical solution out of the three options.

My only other option, is one other set of rims that I also happen to like. However I can't track them down or get any information on them... I know they are Dritek's but that is all. I can only find them in gold and in 17". The rims on this car though are silver AND really look like they are 18" so if anyone knows anything about them PLEASE let me know....
