G'day,

Sorry for yet another defect story, but hopeing someone can help me out.

Got defect for:

a uncovered pod

a atmo BOV

and a intercooler that needed to be tested.

The cop also went behind my car and asked me to rev the engine to see what kind of sound came out.

I have a Trust Power Extreme II Exhaust, which is not the loudest, he stood there and I reved to 4-5k and he said, "nah thats fine, not even close"

Now, first off I buy a box to cover the pod.

Next I buy a GFP Stealth FX BOV and set it all to plump back, I don't even have the whistle on.

I take it to the EPA site and they say, that I didn't pass anything..

1. Aftermarket air-pods are not allowed at all on a R33 Skyline 1996 model.. fair enough... I read through some defect stories and found out why.. So I cleared the Cop defect, but he writes up another one.

2. You're not allowed a "adjustable" BOV... now WTF... I did my research on this... I heard no problems at all.. is this true?

3. Then he defects me for me exhaust with a reading of 97-99DB... ?!!?!?!? arrgghhh..

When he defected you for the FMIC - what did the engineer/pits guy say about it?

Just go back to a stock BOV?

And the enclosed pod box not good enough?

Well thats what I don't understand.. He said I needed to book it in for an emissions test.. which I thought it was... But guess not..

I don't have a stock BOV  But thats why I'm pissed, I talked to GFB and they told me I won't have any problems passing the test as it's fully plump back.. the EPA site tells me "Nah sorry, not allowed an ajustable BOV"

He said any 1993 and under model is allowed a Pod, but anything above i'm not allowed an aftermarket pod filter, even if it has a cover...

well either way, its the RTA's lawbook your car has to abide by, not the policemans... and they differ greatly...

I rather abide to the policemans.. then I don't have to bother with the RTA...

Just an example of the BOV.

Interesting... my car is complied and registered as a 1994 model but Nissan Fast shows it as a 93.... I think I will cary that printout around with me now!

I've never liked the way that GFB marketed their product. A BOV that could vent additional emissions to the atmosphere (ie compared the standard BOV) is a Neddy No-No under one of the EPA regulations which it administers. Their ad fails to address that.

where does it say a 96 model cannot have a pod ? mine is a 95 however i still want to know.

What if the pod is completly covered in the front bar and the police cannot see it or touch it without getting a screw driver and a few tools to pull appart the car ?

Wish I knew.. would of been nice to know that adjustable BOV are not allowed... including my Pod...

Can't say they make it easy to find this infomation out till it's to late.

Isn't that just saying, anyone who has an AMP or a Sub or a non-stock sound system "could" put it as loud as they wanted and cause noise pollution?

Why don't they defect that... sorry I'm just annoyed..

cause most of them cant hit the noise pollution levels...

you only need a miniscule amount of compressed air to vent into the atmosphere and its a defect... wether it be on purpose or a leaking hose... its all or nothing...

the actual idea of it is stupid anyway... what did compressed air ever do to them???

Sound systems (either stock or aftermarket, there is no distinction) are covered under a different regulation.

It's to do with the AFM screwing up because the air got vented out and it didn't know, or something like that... in the end it changes your emessions.

can you have a pod on a R32 without a BOX? or will they still defect you??

Yeah they are fine by his "standards".. only said 1994 and up R33 skylines are f0ked. No pods what so ever.

Also, anyone got a GTR-BOV I can borrow? :(

with the noise issue, those bikeys piss me off the most cos they have much louder bikes than any import car i've heard on the street (cept maybe screamer pipes). why dont these people get defected?

also, ask around to borrow a stock airbox and bov and just use them when u take it to the rta
