Hi all.

Looks like my coils have shit themselves and im looking at buying some splitfires.

My current set up is a microtech Ltx-12 and a MSD 4 ignition with a Ford coil pack on a series 2 RB 25DET.

Yes i know its Ford, but they are going.

Do i just order the series 2 split fires or something different with the set up i have.

Oh and what is the expected price to pay, ive been told around $600 mark.

Cheers.

the split fires are direct replacement for the std coils...

soo S2 run the ignitor in the coil pack itself .. is this how your ford ones run? i wouldnt think so with the MSD 4

here are pretty much teh cheapest in Aus you can get the splitfires for that i know

Yeah im not sure if i can run the split fires with the set up i have, maybe someone knows.

Thanks for the link Craved.

From memory, the Microtech LT12 has the ignitors (6 of them) built in and so on a 6 cylinder it can run full sequential ignition.

The term "MSD4" is bit generic, you will need to be more specific. For example, if it is a MSD DIS-4 HO then the Microtech ignitors are being used to fire in wasted spark mode, so you should have one ignition circuit in the MSD not being used. Check that with your mechanic and/or tuner. Personally I would have run 1 x MSD DIS-4 HO and 1 x MSD DIS-2 HO so that I could run full sequential ignition.

Regardless, if the above is in fact the case, then you need R32GTR/GTST style Splitfires, ones that don’t have built in ignitors. Keep in mind that even with 6 Splitfire coils, you will still have to run wasted spark, as you only have 4 (3 used & 1 not used) ignition circuits in the single MSD DIS-4 HO.

:) cheers :D

;) cheers :O

It is a MSD DIS 4. Yes the microtech does have the inbuilt ignitors.

Thats what i was wondering what type to get with or without inbuilt ignitors.

Thanks for ur help mate.

    • Sane enough. Remove the roof liner, because the acid will go everywhere.
    • Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help and experienced opinions.  I have spent a lot of my life working on boats so I'm pretty good with fibreglass. I'll take everybody's advice in here;  I'll cut a little more of the 2nd layer away as it's a bit crunchy rust and also it's sitting high now. Then I'll wire brush it all a bit to get off anything loose, then I'll soak the bejesus out of it all in rust converter. I'll make sure to get a little hose piece and feed it into all the holes and gaps between the roof layers. Then I'll fibreglass up the holes.  Then I'll get a pallet of filler and mix it with 3 buckets of hardener and hope that is enough to build up the roof corner.  Does that sound sane? Is one type of filler better than others for this?
    • My goals for it atm are to get it registered, respray and some mild power gains eventually... I picked up the car from an elderly gentleman near the border of NSW and VIC, its honestly a bit rough and looks like its been driven on a farm (because there was so much dirt underneath). Last week I dropped the subframe and emptied the old fuel out + added a new fuel pump (think the old one went bad from old fuel). Now I'm onto fixing a coolant leak at the rear of the engine + adding a new radiator as the old one is corroded. After that i have a new bumper, coils (as the old were leaking) and lots more
    • Welcome buddy! Plenty on here and YouTube. What are your plans for it? Good luck with the Rwc and Rego bud!
    • Love this so much! Please post a photo when you have a bike on the trailer.  I was a little bit worried about having a tow bar on the Skyline, but having it hidden behind the number plate is genius
