Hey guys I just installed an emu last week and I have been tuning it myself, anyway my AFM is maxing out pretty early (about 4500 rpm). The car pulls nicely in first and second but in third it hit some sort of fuel cut, I've clamped all the afm voltages at 5V but it still does it, it did it in second in the cold morning air as well. I turned the boost back down to ten and it's ok (was running 17-15) My question is, is this problem because of the afm? and will the map sensor sort me out?

Hey, can you post some info on your install ? Like what harness did you use (universal or n-4?) What jumpers did u move ? What firmware version do you run ? And how did your car behave on the first start up ? Drove like before ? Or have you encountered some problems with the install ?

Its probably your AFM maxing out. Iether a greddy map sensor or bigger AFM.

My car was running rather very badly before the install due to highflow turbo and bigger injectors. Car is running great now apart from the fuel cut. I've never played around with tuning a car before but thought I would give it ago and I have to say that the emanage software makes it rather easy.

I asked for a GTR harness but I was sent a universal harness so I just wired it in which wasn't too hard as it comes with ecu wire locations/descriptions (as in which wires are what and how they supposed to be connected to the ecu)

Jumpers that I changed were JP8 to 2-3 (12V) as per what URAS said and JP13 to 1-2 to change it from reading knock to water temp.

I downloaded firmware update 2.16 from here: http://www.mohdparts.com/emanage/

Only trouble I really had was getting a nice AFR on idle (and one wire that I stuffed up on install because I can't count to 4)

I've got S15 injectors and found the best setting to be 480cc with 0.06 lag time. This gave the smoothest idle and AFR of about 14.4-14.7

Heres a picture for anyone contemplating a wire in

and a video of how it runs :(

One thing I would like to add to this is that fitting a bigger AFM is pointless with the ultimate as it converts the voltage outputs back to the stock AFM values. So effectively no matter how big the AFM you really have on the car is it will still have the same limits as the stock AFM.

Your only option is to wind back the boost until you have the map sensor on there.

I found this after data logging the AFM voltages on my Z32 to cure my fuel cut, since then I've gone back to a stock AFM to get the data sampling I need for the MAP sensor to work properly.

That does not sound right at all.

What settings do you have set for the AFM? VG30DETT? Or your engines AFM? (EG. RB25)???

I tried vg30dett and rb25 with a q45, z32 and rb25 air flow meters. The datalogs for all of the combinations showed the input voltages being appropriate for the air flow meter but the output voltages were all showing that the ultimate was converting the input voltage back to emulate the stock AFM voltages .

You need to vlamp it before 5V, email your map to me [email protected] and i will set the boost cut for you and email it back.

Still getting nowhere fast with my EMU install. Reset the jumpers to factory default and upgraded firmware to version 2.16. Wire swap done for crank/cam angle and rewired to select water temp and knock 2. Have selected RB25DET from parameter settings, started car but no better. Engine running very rough, feels like it is misfiring very badly.

Any suggestions as to what could be wrong? Put stock ecu back and car runs fine again, so must be EMU related.

had exact same problem. im sure the emu has good points. BUT...we tried to get it going for a good month. my mechanic and electrician could not get it going. we instead opted for the PFC. may i suggest u go for a plug in stand alone ecu. the emu has cost me nothing but time, money, sweat and tears.

I installed and semi tuned the emanage myself with no problems and I only did this because my power fc broke nothings perfect!!

Very strange that some people manage to install these things with no problems and others have a nightmare. Would be useful if the ones who have had problems and resolved them could put together cause and solution table. Would help with problem solving without a doubt.

put it this way 99% of the EMU issues i fix on a day to day basis is because so-called experts fark it up.

PFC :)

see above.

for the money u pay u would sure hope it is perfect.

why buy second best :)

nothings perfect i tune twice as many PFC's as EMU's and i have had a fair few dodgy PFC's over the last 10 or so years.... maps all 0 etc. the problem is with EMU is it is up to the installer to fit it correctley and unfortunatley there are more monkeys with spaners and testlights than there are decent mech/autoelecs with a clue.

Uras

Have you got advice with regard to a "snagging list" to resolve my problem with the EMU? I would put money on it that it is something simple/obvious, but after hours working on it all objectivity has been lost apart from an irrational hatred of the damn thing. It looks like the easiest thing in the world to fit, which is why it is so bloody frustrating! :)

what is the serial number and there is a (D,E) letter code inside on the board... what is yours?

    • A locally delivered Infiniti have remote start installed but don't come with the remote start key. You need a new remote start key and they just need it programed. And this is different to making/programing a new key that just starts the car.
    • Cheers, and cheers for sharing so much of the build and also sharing the glimpse of what turns out to bring a lot of us poor decision makers together haha.  I do recommend learning more about how to manage it, if not considering getting a  formal diagnosis.  The discussion with the psychiatrist I got my diagnosis through was quite eye opening, things I'd not even considered to be ADHD related and hadn't mentioned were things she asked about out of the blue and were common themes with people with my flavour of ADHD.   It's not a label for people who are hyperactive and ill-attentive, there's more to it than that and some of it can be much more challenging or damaging - though there are of course two sides to the thing, and a lot of the stuff we have to go through and work on to live with it make us effectively "better" at other things as well. Aside from the fact that there is some argument I could have a bit of ASD seasoning in there (came up during the diagnosis, and neurodiverse things seem to not stay as a cookie cut) I suspect you need to learn more about ADHD if you are puzzled about how hyperfocus could possibly apply.  I *do* personally use "superpower" with quotes deliberately, but it's 100% an ADHD thing due to the exact reason that lack of focus is also an ADHD thing... Loosely speaking the inattentive side of ADHD isn't the inability to focus, it's the inability to control where the focus goes.  Not being able to sleep because brain is more interested in thinking about a stupid thing I said to a girl I liked 30 years ago, not being able to focus on work because my brain is more keen on putting together the torque management strategy we're going to try out with a drag car next weekend, not being able to focus on a conversation with someone I WANT to listen to and respect because there is a flickering light in my peripheral vision.    If I could just stop work and build the torque management setup right there and then I'd not hear anything else until it was done.
    • Maybe you should do some more reading.  Google positive effects of ADHD and you'll get your answers.  One of my personal downsides of ADHD has been talking before I think.   Maybe you have it too?
    • Excuse me for butting in....but which part of ADHD can be considered a superpower? I would have though it far more likely that some ASD comorbidity is more likely to be contributing to an ability to hyperfocus on something. ADHD being aimed somewhat in the other direction. My shed looks like your shed. My whiteboard list of unfinished projects has entries going back 15 years. I know what you're talking about - I just struggle to connect ADHD to the results being discussed.
    • Thanks for reaching out!  It's a blessing and a curse at the same time.  I'm undiagnosed but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it in me... I have more half started projects laying around my house, shed, garden, etc taking up space and money, destroying aesthetics than if I added up all of my mates projects together. But, ADHD gives me the ability to hyper focus on things that no mere mortal could even  comprehend.  A recent pool build is an example of that....  I dont know anyone else that would be dumb enough and focused enough to take on then complete something of that magnitude. I call ADHD a superpower but it can equally be completely destructive if not controlled and focusedon the right places. Addiction is a major concern to ADHD people and thankfully my addictions have been no worse than projects, XBOX, chocolate and being an arsehole! It's often hereditary and my 13 year old son is currently learning how to drive it at the moment. Keep lurking! If i can finally finish this bloody thing at some point it will be a win for all of us ADHD'ers! 🤪
