Car Keyed

Recommended Posts

hey guys,

my car got keyed last night by someone dunno who...

but anyway, there is a big "X" on the bonnet and some smaller scratches on the side and back...

im just wondering where i should take the car to get it fixed up before i sell it and how it will cost around.

Thanks.

Its hard to quote a respray job without acctually seeing the damage because the key may have left an indent in the metal and needs more work to fix. If its just a light-ish scratch on th hood your looking at $400 for a good colour matched respray... dunno about the rest

People who do these sort of things shit me.

PM me if you want to know how it can be fixed for nothing.

You might even be able to make abit on the side.

Nothing illegal....ffs....I mean you didn't scratch it or pay some one to do it.(Hoping not).

No-one is injured, you still have your car.

Cheers.

sorry to hear that man... these f*krs should be whipped in public like those kids in singapore like 10 years ago... i hate f*krs like that.. anyways... there are mobile paint repairers who specialise in chips and scratches and are usually cheaper then a respray and usualy quality work... i think some of them give free quotes so might be worth checking out... check in yellow pages and maybe google it as well... good luck...

  • 1 month later...

Hearing shit like this drives me nuts. is the current paint faided at all? cos resprays can be a **** if thats the case. id recommend u drop ur insurance policy, its hardly worth it with a 1k excess LOl! unless your doing alot of drifting or somehting.. best bet wud be to just take it to a respray joint and get it quoted.

if someone offered me a full proper respray for $1k i would take it. who knows it might be a blessing in disguise cause u might get a couple more $1000s selling it. then who'll be laughing mmwwahhhahahaha.

The paintless dent repair guys can work wonders - even on keyed paint work. Have a look at their website, and give them a call - they'll come out and give you a free quote, and tell you if its beyond their scope. But using touch up paint, and cutting and polishing, key marks can be repaired without a respray.

    • I am currently going this route. I am curious how much horse power you put behind the cut bell housing? Collins was telling me I am going to crack it and bluh bluh bluh. Because I didn’t buy the custom fly wheel from him. I am looking for somewhere around like 500 hp
    • Forgot to mention that these are the before pics when I first got it!
    • Thanks @PranK for the updated member status, much appreciated! 👍🏼 Now, about those pics… Unfortunately I could only find ones that I took in the dark. I was soon to discover that underneath it wasn’t in the best shape, but it was mine and that’s all I cared about at the time 😆
    • Oh, and only having done this task yesterday, I've now driven the car ~60km since, and while it is hard to avoid placebo effect and confirmation bias, I reckon that some annoyances I had with the way the car has been behaving have improved. Which....kinda makes sense, I guess. If the bushes were really stiff and resisting rotation, they would have been contributing to the effective wheel rate. And if it was more so on one side (which it was, because one side was worse than the other) then.... you might imagine that the additional rate would be asymmetric, and potentially even different between compression and rebound. And so... the car has been twitchy at higher speeds - like freeway on ramps. It really shouldn't be. The wheel alignment is good and there are no (other) known problems elsewhere in the suspension. But at 90-100 on a long sweeping ramp, tiny steering wheel motions would make it feel like it wanted to rear steer. Quite nervous. At lower speeds it would heave about in a manner that it didn't use to. Didn't want to put power down, etc etc. Now...seems to behave better. Am going to have to concentrate on the various corners where it has exhibited weirdness, on the rare occasions when I can get a decent run at them without Methanial getting in the way in his D-Max/Ranger/LDV Van/etc.
