yeah fair enough... im showing it off tonight at the pizza cruise (unfinished :() ill get some pics of it, or get someone else to :O

and i showed it around last night to the coasties... a lot of people seem to like it :(

Im thinking about making these for people for about $320 a piece...

your choice of colours and what they do...

anyone interested?

I have seen the finished product and its excellent and done really well :O

Looks Great and even changes colour if you want it too when braking, I highly reccomend the facia with choice of colours done by Doof :(

These are the led bars that jaycar sells for $6.95 each. 3 leds in a bar. If well placed they light up the sign pretty well. Bear in mind if you buy these that the pricks whove designed this have mounted the led's the wrong way. Reverse polarity. i.e. +ve is -ve and vice versa.

Will post up pics of it lighted behind the facia once steven gets my facia to his painter .. now only if I could find the time to drop it off. Liverpool day trip sounds good steven?

i make the LED bars myself... i used two colours in mine...

i have also designed boards to do different things... i can make them light up on brakes, turn off on brakes, turn on for reverse... im not sure if i can do a reverse and brake light in one... need to think more...

but basically any colour under the sun... i have red and blue, on brakes its just red ;) looks neat :)

thinking about doing a UV one as well :)

umm... PS: any colours but red are not for road use :) *wink*

ill grab some pics of mine tomorrow night when i have my camera back...

edit: got some, but im drunk, so may be blurry :)

Now technically, the painter screwed up and didnt put a layer of black down like i asked... but to be honest, im not sure if i would like this one or just the letter lit up...

wtf? i thought the painter painted it to your car color.. still looks like clear plastic. i thought not putting the black coat would maybe get the red to come out in places but the whole bar looks lit... get some pics of it in the day :)

You could prime the fascia in black yourself with a can before taking it down to the spray painter.

why bother... he masks it and does a great job...

and the bar was painted with actual car paint, he was supposed to do a layer of black first but he didnt... it is white, it actually looks really nice in the day time :)

here it is with the flash

my mate has one on his skyline, i think his one is the factory one from Nissan. His one just lights up the letters and is green/bluish colour. Is there a way to do that without lighting up the whole thing board? His one is also clear for the rest of the board (not painted to hide the light)? or so it looks

jeez, $320 for you to make up LEDs and wire it up?

Edited by shaun123

shaun: hmm you're right bout the factory ones. they still look like the stock s1 in the day. its probably done with a stencil insert on the inside and the el sheet behind that. i rekon its probably a lot easier than painting the outside (masking etc)

Since i had no info when i did my facia, i didn't get the facia primed in black, which resulted in the LEDs shining through the paint, as spots. To over-come this, i stuck some black foam strips on the inside right in front of the LEDs, this solved the problem and created an even glow.

The black prime coat was a solution that i thought of after i finished the facia.

I am considering organising a GROUP BUY for the supply of these custom light up panels just like you guys are asking for, based on how much of a response I get.

These have ONLY the letters lighting up just as you guys are trying to do, with a stealth look in the day, giving it a stock Series 2 finish when they lights aren't on. They also would be available matched up to your cars paint colour code (the one shown is done in Series 2 Silver), with any colour LED. White is very effective as you can see, although a variety of other colours will be also available. The panel can then be wired up to come on with the headlights/parkers, or just the brakes or even just in when its the reverse lights come on.

Please PM me if your interested to get this Group Buy going.

    • Oh bugger ! Your right ! Good old hydrogen sulfide. Takes me back to the good old school days !
    • I've owned a few scooters over the years, a Vespa PX oil burner was my first scooter, followed by a few others, including a little 50cc BeeWee that I used as a barracks bike, and I've had a blast on all of them, they really are the cheapest for of city/suburb transport around The only issue with scooters in Australia is lots of people look down on them due to their size,  maybe they need a big bike to make up for something else where they are lacking, unlike Europe and Asia where every man an their dog owns one, and now that filtering is legal in NSW, local traffic is never a issue Not to say I haven't owned my share of big cc bikes over the years, but they were for more blasting through the hills or Hwy riding where it needed to sit on Hwy speeds Safety wise, I ride like everyone is always trying to kill me, everyone is running a red, or running stop/give way signs, or generally asleep at the wheel, which most people are duringtheir commute, I also ride really safe, and give myself, and everyone else enough room in case I need to pull some hasty evasive actions, I've done a few rider training days over the years, which has come in handy on more than a few occasions  As for mods, there's nothing really, and yes your right about aftermarket exhaust, all you get is loud and obnoxious noises from them, like every 250-300 cc you hear with a aftermarket muffler, in saying this I did put a rear muffler from a 125 Aprilla on one of my old 125 scooters, it was horrendous and no amount of full face helmet and ear plugs would dampen that noise As for coming from the Harley, and what a overpriced POS that was, I no longer do big rides as my poor old busted joints ache after about 1/2 an hour of riding, long cruises are so much more enjoyable now in a car, so a big bike would be pointless
    • Oh wow, it's easy to forget how cheap these can be. Probably the cheapest way to travel. Though people in cars here tend to be morons and I would not feel very safe. Were scooters ever big in Australia? It used to be the thing growing up in Europe ~20 years ago. 50/70/125ccm Peugeot or Yamaha and some others. Utterly obnoxious Polini race exhausts. Kick stands that slant as much as possible. So loud. So much noise for really not moving very fast at all. But it felt cool at the time. Not sure where I'm going with this, but there is an aftermarket for mopeds! Though I'd have pictured you more for a Goldwing kind of guy after growing out of the Harley.
    • You need to know I am sorry for this.
    • As the MX5 isn't apparently "manly" enough, and I need something for runs to the local shops, and also take to my part time job at the salon, basically I can keep the MX5 away from car parks and stuff......like "flying lockers", I was wondering what I could buy to fix this issue LOL, I pick up a new Yamaha 125 Delight this arvo from Trooper Lu, basically a R1 that you can fit a slab of beer on between your feet, also, it was $29400 cheaper than a R1, so actually it's 2 x better than a R1
