Hi,

Ive been hearing people saying that the Apexi Power Intake pod filter flutters and releases a wastegate type noise when u take ur leg off the throttle similar to a blow off valve. Is this true, as i currently have a K&N pod filter, and was wondering does the apexi flutter (eg. BOV or wategate pressure release).

Who has one, is it better performance wise or is it just all noise.

Cheers

John

in no way what so ever will a pod filter make the flutter/venting noise. its all to do with the bov you have. all a pod kit does is eliminate the muffling effect that the stock box has and allows the sound made by your bov to resonate (echo). now some pods by different companies will affect the sound to varying degrees due to their differnt design, but they are all basically justa bit of shaped paper, foam or wiremesh on the end of a tube. just like the one you already have on your car

Since it's already been brought up, I've upgraded to a HKS 2535 but only on 10psi (for now)

I used to have the standard turno on 12psi and never had the flutter, just the load Pssshhhh,

Now with this turbo i get the flutter???? It's on the standard BOV. Only happens on full load between changes

Is the BOV reaching it's capacity?

I don't mind the noise but if it's gunna cause any damage, i'd like it sorted sooner than later.

Thanks guys.,.

I've just gotten my 2535 on too and have noticed something similar...only difference is that i have a rb20det and i'm using a standard gtr bov...any ideas people?

i had a very slight fluttering noise when i put my pod on when i back off the throttle gently but as soon as i installed my fround mount geez it flutters like crazy. it must be echoing off the intercooler pipes and gets heard through the pod im guessing?

for the guy with the 2535, you just need to adjust your bov, although your running the same boost, the 2535 will be feeding your motor cooler air, so there will physically be more air in the system, hence its fluttering now, same goes for you tek 01 with a front mount theres alot more air in there still when you back off, so thats why it will flutter now, just need to adjust your bov

the noise is always present and is amplified by the pod type, i dont run bovs at all and get crazy (dose, flutter and whateva) intake reverb noise on the rb26 and the SR20. BOV's can alter this noise but again have nothing to do with the cause.....only the effect

Well it seems like alot of ppl have the flutter with POD's etc. Well i have a front mount with CAI, pod and a stock BOV and i cant seem to get any flutter!!!! Any one tell me why not?????? (just a big woosh) HELP

    • Hi everyone, I’m Dave from Canberra. Here's a few pics of my 1992 R32 GTST coupe which I imported back in 2006. Only mods so far are HKS Hi-power cat back exhaust, K&N filter, ATC Volanti steering wheel, Pioneer stereo, amp and sub. This was my daily driver up until 2015 and sadly hasn’t been driven at all in the last 5 years due to marriage, work, and kids taking up most of my time and spare cash.As such its in need of a bit of TLC and one of my goals for this year is to get it back to running condition and maybe look into club/historic rego. I’ve joined SAU so I can ask a few questions along the way (although I promise to google Current Problem +SAU beforehand!)
    • From talking to the mx5 guys the NC doesn't actually need bonnet vents like the earlier NA and NB models, due to a better designed cooling system and undertray design There's plenty of them used as street cars and weekend track toys running anywhere from around 170 to 250kw with stock non vented bonnets, I initially was going to get some bonnet vents, but, as they are not actually required, I'll put vents on hold for a while and just monitor temps, though I do need to get something to actually monitor engine oil temps though, coolant temp can be pulled from the OBD2, but the oil gauge in the car is not actual oil temp, it is only a calculation based off coolant temp and RPM ☹️ They do recommend upgrading the radiator, which I have already done with a triple pass, and the only other thing they recommend for a street car is heat management, like I talked about above to protect bits in the engine bay from radiant heat, and to either replace the nearly 20 year old plastic coolant expansion tank, which I have done, or get a aftermarket alloy jobbie for some bling They did also say that if I wanted to track the car on occasion a oil cooler and sump baffle would be required, and as I already have had a sump baffle installed when the engine was out......... I'm going to get a oil cooler with a thermostat....... just in case I do eventually track the car, but probably not, but still maybe...🤪
